  1. I went to a repro talk recently and they had the people from WOmbaroo there and they showed all the common feeding milk supplements and their break down. Wombaroo was made the closest to dog milk.

Maybe you could try that if you can get it for more concentrated calories.

I have just ordered some, thank you

I have also ordered the Intensive Care for Newborn Puppy book as well.

  2. The night went well, the little one is very vigorous this morning & now weighs 150 grams - that was my goal too so I was very happy when I weighed her!

I have tried to attach a photo taken around 8 30 last night of the little girl and her big brother having a feed!

  3. This is the story, my Toy Poodle whelped 5 puppies on 12 November morning and on 14 November by 9am the mum developed Metritis. They stayed at the vets until 16th 5 pm. Mum is well again although still on medication, the 4 other puppies are thriving.

The problem I have is that one puppy weighed 154 grams when it went in to the vets on Sunday morning and was 119 grams Tuesday afternoon when I got them home. I have been feeding the puppy by syringe every few hours, she is hungry every 3 - 3.5 hours and taking around 4-5 mls and when she is hungry she is still attempting to suckle off her mum but she is only 140 grams and has been this weight for a day now - no gain in weight at all. Her litter mates are all between 190 & 280 grams so I separate them and let the puppy have a suck but she is not very good at it so then I feed her. She would not suck the bottle.

I am going to a friends today to learn how to tube her, but what else can I do to try and get her weight gain going again, the first 24 hours home she went from 119 grams to 130 grams and it has been very slow since then.

Please share your experiences with me on feeding a tiny pup and hopefully with some stories that worked for you.

    Janet

  4. Thank you foreveryone for your comments, I screen potential buyers very carefully and yes I have Toy Poodles so it is a real concern.

I am very glad to hear that Christina has been early desexing the same breed for many years with no known problems occuring, I have puppies due later in November and I am hoping for a lovely show poodle in the litter (for me), the others will all need good homes.

I will discuss the idea with my vet today and read all the links sent and see what I decide.

Once again thank you all for your comments.

  5. Due to a friend breeder being lied to pre-purchase I am now more aware of the risk to the pups of selling a litter on Limited yet the pups still can end up in the wrong hands. How do other breeders work around this, early desexing of the puppies? I will be talking to my vet tomorrow about the desexing but would be very interested in all comments and experiences from other breeders on this topic.
