  1. Teenbs I used to freak out at the thought of 2 dogs that pull and a pram so mine only got walked when hubby could come. One day I thought 'stuff it' and went on my own and to my surprise it was EASIER! Every time they pulled I'd use the pram to block them and within 2 minutes they were walking nicely. And my pram (strider) won't tip no matter what cos it's so wide. I know it's hard to go the first time but you may find it easy after you try?
  2. I do mine whenever they get clicky on the wooden floors, which works out about once a week or so. The clicking drives me nuts and wakes the girlchild
  3. Nawwww he's adorable! Congrats lhok!
  4. I worked in a number of kennels in my area 11-12 years ago. The policy in 2 of them in school hols was to double up dogs in single kennels and 4 dogs to a double kennel run. Inspections were by appointment so we could move the double ups out into the yards so there was only 1 remaining in each kennel as people came through. We would have up to 8 dogs in each outdoor exercise area during the day. The dogs weren't seperated for feeding or supervised and the dogs that were mixed had often never met before. People were paying around $25/day thinking their dogs had a kennel to itself. It was unfortunately the norm, and the clients had no idea. The only kennel that housed as they promised to did it because there were webcams up 24/7 so owners could check on their pets (they cost more though) I won't board my dogs if I can avoid it, ever.
  5. Yeah it was definitely weird. I don't see how it could make him feel better than rimadyl, and he wasn't hyper on rimadyl so it can't be due to pain relief?? I'll probably try it again, but not for a while  he's a total pest on a regular basis and this pushed him over the ledge to total pain in the backside  he's naturally a very anxious dog. We tried him on petark calm and it made no difference at all to his anxiety.
  6. Ahhhhh, so it's just doofus being a doofus! I can't think of anything else that would have set him off, and he calmed down when I stopped it.....bloody weirdo that boy!!!!
  7. Has anyone else had a dog get total hyper on this? We bought some for doof (12 1/2 year old shep x kelpie) and gave him a scoop a night for 2 nights, and the following days he could barely sit still, he was so overexcitedly hyper that he just sat there shaking all day. Took him off it and it calmed down. He's never done it before, he's been on short term NSAIDs for flare ups before and the absence of pain has never made him into this much of a nutcase before. I'm wondering what could be in there that sent him crazier??
  8. It only slowed down my toller for as long as it took the wound to heal, though she's a total sook and whenever anyone visited she would roll onto her back so they could see the surgical wound and whimper pitifully while they told her how brave she was. To be honest I think she was pretty disappointed when we took the stitches out
  9. I stopped reading the smh online, it seems comments on most of the stories on there are incredibly nasty.. As for tennants with pets...if I wasn't living in my house I would happily rent it out to someone with pets! It's very easy to say that when you haven't faced thousands of dollars worth of repairs due to poor tenants. Unfortunately until the courts start sticking up for landlords the pet rental problem will only get worse My family has owned pet friendly rentals for about 15 years and we are yet to have a bad tenant, most are so grateful to be able to get a place with their pets at all. On the flip side our place was rented to a smoker before we moved in and we had to gut the place-3 years of heavy smoke and even the plasterboard needed to be pulled out. I'll take a dog any day!
  10. I forgot to watch it! Thank god foxtel repeats everything every 15 minutes or so

  12. Well we just had doof when we bought (and a cat). I put together a file on doof, back then he used to come to work with me so I got references from our work vet and directors, my vet and our old estate agent for the rental we were in before we bought here. Sent it to the exec committee (cost me $50 which seemed ridiculous) and they were fine with it. The only issue was the by-laws said pets were allowed but must be carried on common areas. In our case that was changed to 'must be leashed' cos there was no way I'm carrying 27kg of doof around! Then when it was looking like I'd get a pup I went around the exec committee and they were happy to sign off on it as doof's behaviour had been so good. And she's been fine We've always been a very relaxed unit block though, frankly I couldn't care less about the little things that seem to be issues in other units (blinds need to match, no washing hung on verandahs, etc etc). People can do whatever they want provided it doesn't directly impact other residents 'peaceful enjoyment'. As a result we tend to say 'yes' to most requests that come through
  13. Do whatever you need to do to keep your baby safe doggleworth. You are in my thoughts. Yep, same here. Agree. And me... T. Me too
  14. We live in a unit (ground floor with a yard) with a toller and a kelpie x shepherd. Our toller, bear, has lived here since she came to us from the breeder, doof was 6 when we moved here The biggest issue is if they bark. We have an issue at the moment cos doof has just developed dementia and is barking lately, we only became aware of it this week so I'm trying to stay home or take them out with me until we can get a workable solution (thankfully I'm a stay at home mum so I can do that!). But honestly I don't see that as being too different to living in a house, I'm sure doof would annoy neighbours if we had anything less than an acreage....just with apartments you can annoy far more neighbours at the same time. Also keep in mind that generally you will have someone that thinks its cruel to keep dogs in units no matter how good an owner you are. It's frustrating but seems unavoidable.
  15. Growing up we had a pup that was a total land shark and would bite (particularly at hands) given any opportunity. We tried everything and couldn't stop it until we mentioned it to a friend who was an older farmer. When the pup bites at your hand very gently push in the lip/cheek at the corner of their mouth so it covers your finger and when they bite you, they bite down on their cheek/lip as well. Did it a few times and within a week he never bit at our hands again. They don't like it but I guess that's why it works!
  16. Surely that would mean his next surgery would be free?
  17. So glad to hear the update!!! Hugs for all of you, hope you can get some rest tonight

  19. Just caught up with this thread. Lhok I am so, so sorry to hear about Raiden. Thinking of you guys
  20. Yep doof sheds constantly too. Even my lizard is shedding his skin....at least he has the decency to stay in his tank  When we bought our couch, carpet and floorboards they asked what colour we wanted and I just pulled a clump of dog hair off my jeans and said 'match this'. Thankfully my 2 are similar colours, I'll have to stick with Tollers now or find the money for a new couch
  21. My house is a hair nightmare at the moment. I'm tempted to leave doof's pj's on 24/7 to get a break from sweeping. Bear's hair felts into clumps and then come out, it's bloody everywhere but I brush her and get nothing which is confusing the hell out of me!!!
  22. I just read that, the comments are amazing, so many dog haters out there! I live in a small unit with a kelpie x shepherd and a toller (and a hubby, toddler, lizard and turtle). My dogs are happy, healthy and as a general rule most people didn't know we had dogs until they catch us out walking! I see nothing wrong with dogs in units. I always say to people who tell me I'm mean for doing it 'well, if I gave you a choice to be locked in a huuuuuuge room with absolutely nothing in it, or a small room with a tv, books, games etc for a week, which would you choose?' In 7 years no one has said the big room :)
