  1. Yeah I have been hanging for clean run to do free shipping but I have a feeling hubby might have emailed them and begged them to never run free shipping again I think I need 2-4 of the large kongs. I'm about to go down to a 1 dog household and I want to leave frozen kong/s out for bear of a morning when we go out. I'm thinking I'll be moving her to start eating a lot more raw.
  2. Does anyone have a secret supplier of kongs that aren't too expensive? Happy to order from overseas :) I just found my collection hidden in a bucket of water behind the cubby and they look pretty wrecked so I think I need to order some new ones! (Cutely, the girlchild had stuffed them all with mulch before she hid them in the bucket, she was sad the dogs didn't want them )
  3. Doof quite recently ate an entire disposable nappy, including the solid contents and wipes that went with it. Took him to the vet to have him emptied and they called an hour later asking if I could come have a look, there were lots of coloured bits in it and they didn't know what they were. Got to the vets and was presented with a bag full of vomit, nappy, poo and festive bright coloured flecks. I then had to explain it appeared he'd eaten a box of crayons and some play doh as well
  4. Steamed pumpkin always works for my guys, but I have to give them a fair bit of it for about 2-3 days
  5. I agree with getting cameras up, and contacting the police. All of my neighbours believe we have cameras up in our yard, one was threatening the dogs and I told him we have cameras, haven't heard a peep from the a-hole since!
  6. It's like my/dads old dog rusty. She was as dumb as custard. It took me 6 months to teach her to sit and even then it could only be done after a 30 second delay for processing
  7. My 13 year old boy does this, he's a big dog with all his teeth still but as he gets older after a deep sleep his tongue will slide out more and more, then when he wakes he doesn't realise
  8. We mostly have young kids that visit us (preschool age) and we tell them that 'sitting is how puppies say please' and 'if he isn't sitting, he's being very rude, and we don't like to talk to rude people do we? So we'll ignore him until he asks nicely by sitting again'. It's a simpler message and they do tend to remember and relate to it. Of course you still need to control/train them but it helps the kids to understand
  9. I can't understand why no one has written a thesis on 'if there is this much hair on my floor, how is there any left on my dog?' When I was packing the hospital bag for having the girlchild I carefully got all the dog hair off the clothes we took, then stopped and said to hubby 'Why are we wasting our time, judging by everything else in our lives she'll probably be born with a layer of dog hair over her'
  10. I'm so so sorry to hear this, massive hugs to you all
  11. My dogs haven't had fleas in 6-7 years, we got them at our old rental because the neighbours cats were always in our yard but none since we moved here. I don't flea treat unless I see live fleas, and we saved exposing them to a lot of chemicals that way, not to mention a lot of money on the treatments
  12. I do this evry morning with my very food motivated Standard Schnauzer puppy. It takes him about half an hour or more to find and eat a cup of kibble. It also helps to slow down the mad eating frenzy :) We do this too, and I tend to rake it into the mulch to irritate them even more
  13. My old childhood dog, riff, was immune to ticks. I grew up in a high tick bushy waterfront area and he was a crazy lil scruffy bugger who was into everything and constantly got ticks. We left him overnight with a friend minding him and came back and he had 19 paralysis ticks, from memory many were fully engorged. It didn't affect him at all. Aside from that he was always checked twice a day, always had at least a couple he'd picked up. He was bred in the area (his parents were scruffy locals too) and I always wondered if that was a factor. We were always told we could make a fortune selling him as immune dogs are used to make the serums apparently.
  14. That's what we thought about bear and doof, and you've seen how that turned out  And I'm sure if you explained to Stan that it was a giant fridge, he'd chew his way out of the car to get to it
  15. If you want to take your dog to the snow the best place is dinner plain in Victoria. It's an alpine village next to mt hotham that is hugely dog friendly and we've always got better snow there than in NSW. We live in Sydney but we always go to dinner plain now, it works out at 1 extra tank of fuel and sooooo worth it
  16. My dog names tend to evolve over time. Doofus was Buddy when I got him from the pound, and I kept saying 'god buddy, you are such a doofus', then 'you doofus' then just 'hi, this is doofus, give it 10 minutes and you'll get why' Bear is actually named Kodiak, which morphed into Kodiak Bear, to Brown Bear, to just Bear and occasionally The Bear. She was also called fuzzball furpants for a while. Now she only gets Kodiak if she's in trouble, but the girlchild calls her kodikak if she's telling her off, which is sticking a bit  I'm hoping to get a toller related to bear in future, not totally sure how closely related but regardless Tollers are definitely of family breed of choice. I want to call it Roo, cos the girlchild looooooves the way bear says a-ROOOOOOOOOO!!!!
  17. We' always call it chasing bunnies. Nightmares are referred to as giant bunnies that fight back
  18. Yep bear does, I think I did a thread on it last year? She'll be crying in her sleep and when she wakes/gets woken she comes tearing over to me whimpering and cowering with her eyes still half closed and climbs up while trying to fit inside my clothes (she's a toller, so not too small)! She stays distressed for about 20 minutes. She doesn't do it often but when she does she's like a completely different dog. My mum was on the phone once when she did it, she thought someone must have broken in with the noises bear was making.
  19. Doof ate one of my toddler's nappies, complete with poo contents last week. I still can't look him in the eye.
  20. Has anyone tried the water bowls with auto refill? I'm tossing up spending the $30...
  21. I'm considering changing his name to Poo'f
  22. tell her if she eats a nappy - she too can have a yellow bandage ! Can I tell her she's going on hols with aunty perse? :p
  23. Don't tell Stanley. He may get insecure about his crazy eater title being threatened and eat your car
  24. The vet was a bit worried about all the green and pink flecks through it and seemed a bit surprised when I said he likes to eat crayons and play doh. My vet called me after is dropped him at the after hours clinic (my vet is an hour away in peak hour traffic so made doof do the walk of shame to the emergency vet across the road from my place) and he thought it was funny too....or he may have been laughing at my ranting  Now the girlchild is ticked off because doofy has a bright yellow bandage on his leg and she wants one too
  25. Just picked him up, he's fine. They saved it for me looks like he had a munch on some crayons too! They suggested giving him some tinned pal to give him a good internal cleansing
