I get so mad at people who do this. Got told off by a lady at the shops the other day when I asked her to leave a screaming michaela alone. She is a serial stick head in covered pram offender-I have to watch out for her and run now Despite it being untrue I have often resorted to telling people my dogs bite when they argue with my 'no touchiest' rule. It generally gets rid of them!

It's never easy, but it sounds like he has had a wonderful and so very loved doggy life since he met you. He got to experience how the world should be. Take comfort in that. Thinking of you

I remember dropping riff raff of to the groomers as a kid and asking for a trim, came back and he was nearly bald. Dad and I had to excuse ourselves and walk outside so we could fall about laughing, he looked ridiculous and clearly knew it. BUT, hair grows back, and we honestly couldn't have cared less. He was still our best boy. The only time I remember sending him back was when he got clipped at the vet and they left his leg, head and tail long. Absolutely stupid looking and quite pointless with the number of ticks in our area.

After reading this thread I have completely forgotten how I usually say shih tzu! In my family Labradors are known as tardadors but only cos my sister in laws labs are, well, special ;) I was talking to someone once and they asked what doof is and I said kelpie x GSD. They went 'OMG you have a SHELPIE! Me too!!!'. I said 'I've got no bloody idea what that is but doof is a kelpie *CROSS* GSD!!!

I used to own a dog that was completely immune to paralysis ticks. We discovered it after going away for a few days and getting home to fine the idjit looking after him hadn't checked him for ticks. He had 19 paralysis ticks on him and a lot were fully engorged but he was fine. Where we lived he tended to pick up a couple every day and never once got sick in 16 years. Was amazing!!!

Xolo I love your pronouciation education too. One of my friend at work thought he'd finally be able to stump me on breeds and held up a pic of your dogs in one of the dog mags, laughed and announced 'ive finally got you, bet you don't know what these are!'. He was SO ticked off when I not only identified the breed right but then proceeded to teach him how to pronounce the name! :D I commonly type staffordshite or yorkshite by accident

Can I suggest what might be a best of both worlds alternative? Look into animal health companies. Drug, food, treats, toys, wholesaling, etc. they pay a lot better and if you have a background in/knowledge of marketing you might find it's a better fit. Usually a lot of room to move but if you start out in customer service or as a rep you often get to sit around and chat about pets. I know a lot of vet nurses who went on to animal health-all the reps we used to get at the clinic were ex vet nurses. I was a vet nurse and the novelty wore off quickly with long hours, bad pay with no hope of a payrise and being treated as a glorified kennel hand despite my qualifications. There are some great practices that treat their nurses well but IME they are rare and generally have had the same staff for a very long time! Good luck either way!

Yup, it's a cat being a cat. Our cat doesnt get the opportunity cos it is either inside or in an outdoor run. That is the only way to stop the issue 100%-I highly recommend it :D

Febreeze is great for getting rid of the smell after you've washed the carpet. I spray it on everything that's not alive OT, but funny- I used to work with a backpacker that shared a room with a dude that didn't shower and had shocking BO, she used to febreeze him while he slept You have my sympathies-that would have been a horrid mess!!!

Yep up to 3 months is generally fine The main thing is that the manufacturer has only tested the product meets the guaranteed analysis up to the use by date. After that provided food is stored as per manufacturers instruction (cool dry place out of direct sunlight) its still good for a few months but may not have the same composition as the guaranteed analysis

My boy is a shepherd x kelpie and has the shepherd double coat. If I invest the time in grooming him then I do find less hair around the place for a few days up to a week. Same with the toller. Furminators are amazing, life changing, wonderful brushes honestly the best grooming tool I've ever bought for doof! :D We had a shepherd growing up and I remember still finding hair around the garden for a year after she was PTS

I don't know the first thing about whippets but I do live in a 2 bedroom unit with 2 very active dogs - a kelpie x shepherd and a toller (and a husband, newborn baby, cat and reptiles :D ) and have no issues at all. I believe dogs require the same amount of love, care and attention regardless of the size of their living space. a committed owner should be able to make the dogs life a fulfilled and happy one no matter where they live - its very common in other countries for all sorts of breeds to live in units.

Sounds to me like your mum changed her mind and is frantically trying to save face by making out that it is not her change of mind, but a fault on the breeders side that has brought it all crashing down. Otherwise it just seems like a massive over reaction on your mums part. ETA just read the rest of the thread. Am very surprised breeder is still selling her the pup but god knows it sounds like the poor lady has a hell of a lot else going on at the moment and that may be a factor in her decision
