  1. I wonder how long it is before AR starts pushing vegan diets for dogs? It's the next illogical step.....
  2. Is this just relevant (at this point) to breeders or is it pet owners as well?
  3. Sorry to hear that ness how has she gone over the weekend?
  4. When bear was a pup she went through the same stage, we found that the only way she would eat was if she earned it, so did lots of training and she got her meals that way. I am confident to say as an adult she is the complete opposite and scarfs down anything....if she sees food her pupils dilate so much her eyes look black
  5. We had a bean bag bed in the cat run outside when we had a cat. The cat jumped on it from the top of the run and the bloody thing exploded. I went out for a look and because of the static on her coat, all the beans had clung to the cat and she was coated nose to tail in beans funniest thing I ever saw
  6. I don't know how, but bear got overexcited when I pulled out the leads yesterday and managed to let an anal gland go....oh the instant flashback to vet nursing days I used to work for a vet who would do anal glands every time, no matter what you came in for. The man went through a box of gloves a day it was amazing. The conversations went Vet: what are you in for Owner: I think his eye is infected Vet: *reaches for gloves* righto, lets just do his anal glands Owner: I said his EYE! Vet: I know but let's look here first Nutbag!
  7. Ness I've been thinking of you a lot lately, how are things going?
  8. Bear goes and sits outside the back door with her head resting on the dog door and growls and sighs if she feels dinner is late. If you tell her to knock it off she gets really agitated
  9. Thanks guys, she's settled a bit but I'm ready to swoop if she starts itching tonight!!! I'm soooo tired!
  10. Bear (my toller) seems to be having an allergic reaction to something. I think it might be the rawhide chew she got earlier today. She is itching so much she can't keep still. I have some polaramine liquid here and I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that it's ok to give? It's 2mg/5ml so was going to start at 5 ml and see how we go.
  11. The episode was on this morning, absolutely loved it! ABC have been putting the episodes on iview so it can probably be watched on there :)
  12. My dogs (toller and kelpie x GSD) never seem cold....the first time we took them to the snow I bought tons of dog rugs, wraps, etc. they bounced out of the car nekkid and went feral, popped the coats on and they cracked the sads, so we didn't rug them after that. Based on that experience I now figure they're fine no matter what the temp in Sydney is, provided they can get out of the wind :)
  13. Our dogs have free access to everywhere but my dream house would have a dog room just for grooming with a hydrobath and a dog food freezer etc, that would be awesome. I'd also have an ensuite bathroom with room for a puppy crate
  14. My toller has lots of white and her white parts are like Teflon, she is mad for digging but they come up clean a few hours later without me doing anything! Doof always 'looks' clean. Very handy as they only get bathed a few times a year
  15. They are soooooo cute!!!! Hmmmm maybe doof and bear need something like that for the snow
  16. I've found since we had the girlchild what ends up on doof's bed is far more interesting. Thankfully it's outside. Currently: 6 teddy bears he was gifted when we cleaned out her room over the weekend 2 petit mam (sp?) yoghurt containers (empty) A toddler spoon, chewed in half A sock Various toilet paper rolls Cow hooves Half the mulch in the backyard 3 Empty drink bottles Drink bottle lids Kong wubba Cardboard box pieces Giant tennis ball It's totally packed. He just hurtles across the yard and throws himself at it and lands with a blissed out grin Bear doesn't hoard stuff. Except sometimes fruit, but only because doof loves it and she hates it, but knows its food so refuses to give it up. All she wants is food
  17. No one wants to swap for my dogs so I just threaten them with being given to the dodgy Chinese restaurant next door Although people tend to say they wish they had a doofus, everyone loves him, which baffles me because of the 2, he is the more annoyingly batcrap crazy one
  18. They do heal quickly :) Yeah, oyster shells are hugely ouchy, I got caught on a few and they bloody hurt and are usually pretty deep! Oddly my dog never cared, usually we didn't realise until we saw the blood on the floor that he was cut again....but he was a total nutbag of a dog
  19. Betadine and wrap/sock for a few days if she is likely to lick at it. My old dog used to cut his paws constantly cos dads house is a waterfront and he would run over oyster shells. They do heal quickly if you can keep them dry and non-chewed I would hesitate putting neocort on an open wound, I was told it can delay healing
  20. Doof reverse sneezes a fair bit, though he hasn't done it for a while, he has no other allergies. Generally if I can force him to swallow he stops right away.
  21. Specific to just being old?? I posted my boy's kidney failure thread in palliative care because that's exactly what it was, palliative care. I had already posted two other related threads in health with limited response. It's not about an expectation of replies, but a hope that someone somewhere can share some advice or thoughts. So if you're in a situation with a chronically ill dog and feeling desperate and getting nothing, of course you can feel disheartened. I do read the palliative care threads, same as I read rainbow bridge. My heart aches for people in those situations. I very rarely have any constructive advice other than to express my sympathy. But as Sheridan said, some threads get more support than others. I tend to post in threads where it looks like there is not as much support, but that's a personal choice I make because I really feel for those people. You chose to put your thread in a section that has little traffic, so you shouldn;t expect lots of replies, esp on a subject where there is limited number of people with experience. If you wanted an - oh dear, there there set of replies, utilise a forum that gets more traffic! It;s like saying you are disheartened not getting a lift hitch hiking, when you are stood in a country lane! That said, I do sympathise, as last year I went through a similar thing with a fairly young dog who had liver failure and we knew when the balance tipped, it was going to be a fast run to the end. That doesn;t mean I am the type of person who wants to go to threads just to give sympathy, it is a dog forum, so for me that is a given anyway, I, personally would prefer posts that have the help and not have people saying stuff that gets in the way of the useful stuff. I wonder if you realise how rude you sound? It's Kayla1's fault that she posted a thread about her dying dog in a forum that is supposed to be for people whose dogs are dying. The sheer insensitivity is gobsmacking. What Sheridan said Kayla I'm so sorry to hear about your boy. No advice, but lots of these
  22. One of my dogs ate a couple of green crayons recently. Scared me when I went out in the yard-bright green poo everywhere! It looked like a bunch of leprechauns had been partying without a portaloo
  23. Happy birthday Stan!!!! Doof and bear send you big sloppy birthday smooches :)
  24. Febreeze is awesome :) my old work we would have up to 15 dogs in on a day, all carpeted office, and we febreezed the hell out of any whoopsies. It never got stinky in there....just crazy
  25. I think they live in the moment. That moment may be confusion and 'mourning' because a dog or person they spent their life with isn't there anymore. But I don't think they go 'oh bugger, fluffy just died, I bloody hope that doesn't happen to me!'
