  1. Oooh thanks for the link. I've been thinking of getting one of those elevated beds for awhile! $29 for a medium ... Yay!!!!
  2. Beautiful tribute kyliegirl. Sorry for your loss. RIP Sama
  3. Theres always an excuse to dramatize a non event, they do it all the time. If it wasnt this it would be something else, and who is hurt by this kind of garbage reporting ? Our innocent dogs. Now they have hurt the name of the Rottwieller, who sounds as though he was in his yard, never mind the fact that the little guy was allowed to roam around looking for trouble, never mind the other dozen that happened the same way in Australia that day. IMO the dogs are not the focus of the story here, but rather the children, and the readers empathy to how they would be thinking/feeling if their family dog had died. Who cares who's to blame? The kids should be the focus of this story.
  4. I'll go out on a limb here, but I would imagine the pull of the story is the poor children who almost lost their pup, two days after their parents funeral

    Rocco

RIP Rocco The phrase "A picture is worth a thousand words" must've been coined by someone who saw the pic below. So beautiful and says so much! My thoughts are with you.
  6. I found that very interesting! Thanks for sharing Cory's at this stage, and have noticed he mixes it up between being very calm and submissive when meeting a new (big) dog, but then will go crazy running around and jumping everywhere. Has been interesting watch him trial/use new methods. He was playing with a big bitza the other day, and got a little too enthusiastic, the dog tripped him, and I watched as Cory lay very still on his back while the dog sniffed over him. After a minute, the play continued, Cory was still hyper but didn't jump on his face again. I think my boys learning manners? Was it Leanne that wrote it? I also liked the links attached.
  7. Don't it feel good to get some recognition on a job well done Big hugs to you both, he sounds like a real trouper! Fingers crossed for some good news soon!
  8. Don't let the thread title put you off! I for one would like to see your 'dodgy' credentials as well ... lol. Such a wealth of information here. I love how the experience ranges so widely that it covers mostly everything!
  9. Learning is so much easier when your interested! Usually do so much better in my history papers that I LOVE than English papers I can't stand!! Dogs are so much more fun to study than paperwork anyway :D Sounds so similar to my story! Love your signature pics
  10. I found DOL about 18 months back when searching for my first dog, and have been haunting these forums regularly for the last 8 months now. In that time I've utilised the collective expertise of so many of you, in my efforts to do the right thing in choosing and raising our family dog. I've also become familiar with so many of your writing styles and 'temperaments' . But now I'm interested (and if I am, then surely others are) in how you acquired said knowledge and expertise. Are you a pet owner for 25 yrs, owning multiple dogs and multiple breeds? Or a newly credited dog trainer? A vet/breeder/groomer? A noob like myself? Purely for interests sake, so feel free to add to the thread or let it fade into cyber oblivion :D Me? Always had a dog as a child, however have now learnt being responsible for a dog is something entirely different. Learning something new every day.
  11. We started out crate training Cory, however he never seemed to 'love it'. Would be happy to stay in for an hour or so during the day, and wouldn't cry at night, however his nights were restless and he never went near it unless made to! Once he was about 15wks old and pretty much toilet trained, we stopped using it. Now its an ugly mess in the corner of the living room where all our shoes are piled on top in a box so he can't chew them!! : At night, he'll bypass all the soft places like human beds/dog beds/couches and head straight to the cold, hard tiles of the bathroom to sleep the night away! Will wait and see how/if things change once winter arrives. Good luck with your pup, time was the only thing that seemed to matter with Cory's toilet training!
  12. :D :D So sorry IG. Like so many others, I've been following this thread cheering and crying for Reg at each update. RIP old boy! I know you've had a good life and put up the good fight, time to rest!
  13. Reading your post I had some funny memories of taking Cory outside for toilet breaks, particularly the first and last of the day, and I'd very assertively order "Go toilet" ... he'd flop over on the grass, legs had buckled under him, and would lie down as if exhausted, and not budge until he was good and ready, rain or shine Perfectly normal for your pup IMO!
  14. Sorry to hear that. I know it must be very hard to have to witness! Have you thought of writing a letter? I know when I have something serious to talk to one of my sisters about, I usually put it in writing as it takes out the emotional element, and also the opportunity for them to talk over you. I also use the psychology of saying something positive for every negative ie. "Your dog loves you very much, so you must be doing something right .. however ...... ". Best of luck getting through.
  15. Big hugs to Reg, fingers crossed the old boy pulls through fine, such a sorry pic of him bleeding. Am so glad he's with his owner, must make him feel less stressed! You did good Indiegirl
  16. Love the captions, especially "Mummy said drop so DROP!!" Thanks for sharing!
  17. Oh that's so sad! Sorry to hear that. Run free baby girl
  18. Ellz, I was replying more to this comment from SpikesPuppy as it seemed to imply that the purchaser should be, if not liable then grateful to pay full price, for the costs the breeder spent on the dog up to the point they decided to rehome it.
  19. As a pet owner I can see where slk is coming from in a way. My last SBT was an 18mo failed show dog, and while he may have been socialised perfectly well for the environment he was living in, that wasn't the case for my household. That's one of the benefits of getting a puppy isn't it? That they can become a perfect fit for your home and routinues? I would expect that they wouldn't cost as much as they would have sold as a puppy. IMO any money the breeder/shower would have spent on the dog would be because they were raising a show dog, not a pet, and comes with keeping a dog in the home. Not saying the dog doesn't have value, and would have many attributes a puppy may not have, in fact I intend my next dog to be a mature dog.
  20. I think I looked here before I found DoL and got Cory instead. Will delete if its against rules. Edited to delete link cause I'm sure its against rules ... sorry.
  21. Love that first photo in your signature! So cute!! And the staffy wearing red ruffwear boots in the ad is hilarious! What a funky dog
  22. I'm against exploitation of any kind, regardless of benefits. Where do you draw the line when it comes to medical experimentation for the benefit of the masses?
  23. So sorry for your loss! Run free Sooty! What a sad scenario ... Poor boy hope you get some good advice on here.
  24. I found that so helpful when I was looking. Saved hours of scrolling through each rental to see if they were dog friendly. Big thumbs up from me. Hope things work out for you grabit ... must be a scary time for you.
  25. Ooooh ... those pics are SO cute!! Love the last one No info to add Saxon sorry. We have a Cocker that we're introducing to my sisters Staffy, I'm the same as you, never sure whether to step in, but Cory seems to love it even though he gets hurt from heavy paws on the occasion.
