  1. I am under the impression if a show is cancelled for any reason then your entry fees are not returned, I am not sure because I have never actually entered a show that has been cancelled due to rain (or any other reason). In most cases my cheque for my entries is usually cashed a week or so before the show I have probably shown at least a dozen times at agi/country shows in the last twelve months in conditions worse than what Lang Lang *appears* to be in, if I had a choice between showing in conditions that are a little wet under foot and temperatures of 30 degress plus I would choose the wet. We haven't had any rain since lunchtime, the sun has been shining and the forecast for tomorrow is for 28 with light drizzle in the morning Just my opinion
  2. Please tell it like it is Colleen we can do without the hysterics Lang Lang Showgrounds Dog area this afternoon, doesn't look underwater to me Certainly doesn't look underwater to me either!!!!! Look and behold the sun is out as well! Tomorrow was supposed to be early drizzle to a sunny afternoon! and it's cancelled.......... I saw some photos that Biju has done at one show where the ground looked shocking and it was pouring but it certainly didn't stop the show, what makes Lang Lang any different? It was the one show I was looking forward to :D Certainly doesn't look underwater to me either and certainly alot better than Benalla that will be going ahead all weekend ................................ I was looking forward to this show too, my first ever bob was here last year. Oh well $60 down the drain, no pun intended, don't know if I will bother next year
  3. I so need a set of pink flamingos :D Sorry leaving now
  4. Haven't read all the responses yet but.................... I had my dogs and horses lonnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggg before my oh. He knows they are part of what makes me, me and he has no choice in the matter and as much as I love him dearly and couldn't imagine life without him if he told me the dogs weren't allowed inside he would be joining them outside In saying that he loves them just as much as I do, he feeds them, walks them, picks up poo, cleans up pee, has taken out puppies to the toilet at 3 in the morning in the middle of winter, takes the evil one to the toilet every morning at 5, comes to shows every weekend, sets up gazebos, bathes them, dries them, brushes them, has driven me from one side of the country to the other for shows, he has shared every high and low from being ringside when I got my first Best In Show to sitting on the floor of the vet, howling with me when I my old fella was pts ;)
  5. Thank you Any idea which Sammy please I am fairly certain it was a Snowbrook dog...sorry I am not that helpful...came from the Aus bred class....the young puppy Sammy went 3rd in the sweepies today.
  6. Wow, pretty. So they arn't easy to get or do breeders not like the colour and try to aviod it for health reasons? I've never seen one before. I only know of one, named Bundy of all things and he is not show quality I have never seen one in the ring. Even though I have owned Sams, Sibes and Mals for nearly forty years so have a little bit of knowlege about the breeds, show most weekends and only have house dogs who are spoilt rotten the moment I mention I am really interested in a white Sibe every breeder I have spoken to shoves their fingers in their ears ;) KA that is what I reckon :D :D I am unsure of any health issues Edited to add Google is of no help to me but just taking a stab in the dark here, eye and hip issues are the most common problems in the breed and blue eyed dogs would have be more prone to eye issues.
  7. Just quickly off the topic of Samoyeds for a second ;) For 38 years I have wanted a HEALTHY SHOW QUALITY white Sibe ;) I think they are just devine .......................... don't quite like my chances of ever having one :nahnah:
  8. Out of curiosity, do these apply to breeds where those colours are common? Example being my Black labs, would they be more susceptible to certain kinds of cancer? Or is it only the case in breeds where the colour is rare/disqualified? Or Samoyeds, are they more su susceptible to deafness ect? Apparently the cancer link goes across breeds for black dogs. Rottweillers are noted as being more susceptible to parvo as a breed. Can't say about Samoyeds but Westies get skin issues noted in health issues for the breed. I am not aware of any Samoyeds with the above issues ^^^^^^ However they will chew up and swallow everything and anything, which leads to bowel obstructions which leads to surgery which leads to expensive vet bills I have never heard of deafness (in saying that the Samoyed's pigment under all that coat is black) in the breed. They can get hotspots from not being dried properly, but that would come down to the sheer size of the coat not the color but I haven't heard of any other skin issues. I do however know of two with hip issues and one with eye issues The solution is to only buy from an ethical breeder who health tests, too easy.
  9. Samoyeds They are not hard to keep clean or groom. They don't need to be brushed everyday and they don't need to be washed every week, they are teflon coated, the dirt shakes out, even after they have been playing in muddy flooded paddocks all day. They don't need to be shaved, everrrrrrr ;) Even when it is 45 degrees they are still jumping around the ring in full coat while their pathetic owner has taken refuge somewhere and is possibly suffering from heat stress Sibes They are not part wolf and they are not going to attack too. In fact if you broke into my house whilst I was out they would probably help you load up the van then they would come with you. They are not loyal at all everyone is their new best friend. They can be trained even to shock horror recall it just takes perseverance ;) but don't ever expect to do a trial with them because they will choose this exact moment to stick their fingers up at you and run the other way
  10. Thank you so much :p Any idea which Sam and Sibe?
  11. I am waiting for group 6 too Jack :D Reckon it may be wayyyyyyyy too early Very jelous of all those showing today, I have to work ;) Hell I would be deliriously happy to stand in the rain all day if it didn't mean working
  12. We have a chocolate brown microsuede lounge suite. Has stood up really well to four coated dogs for five years, the few hairs that do stick vaccuum off and being scotch guarded a dry clean every once in a while brings it back to just about new. It hasn't however stood up to my youngest daughter and her scissor accident *sigh*
  13. I have recieved 1 number (of the 3 I entered) no catalogue stamp or coupon and no breakdown of numbers Poor secretary must be snowed under. I have never been before and being no 2026 I guess it is going to be one big show . Can anyone please tell me what parking and space is like. Will I need to be there at 3 in the morning to get a spot
  14. congrats snopaws :D my brag is that on the Friday and Sunday my baby got both baby in groups On all THREE days of the shows my neuter boy Leo picked up neuter in show ;) Congratulations Leo that is fantastic
  15. missed that announcement - the club still has her listed. That's a bit disappointing - we get a bit excited if it's a Swedish or finnish judge! That is disapppointing
  16. Huge congratulations! Sounds like the judges love an animated dog after all! Was he barking at all? Yep he did :D You know what though, on Sunday while the judge was going over him for BIS we had a helicopter directly over the top of us, the weekend before at Geelong Royal we had steam engines beside us for Group Specials. One dog that is vocal in the ring is nothing compared to that, and while I will & would never encourage him to bark and I am very respectful to keep a good distance from everyone else. I am not going to stop my Sammy from bouncing into the ring with a smile on his face :D :D FKF I think ;) a Pap was BIG Saturday and Sunday.
  17. Yes!! For a thousand years they have been bred to bark, when you job is to herd an animal that is ten times your size and weight and you don't have strength, size or speed on your size you had better have a big mouth And yes we will be at Sunbury I thought I would let BBJ add her own results if she wants to
  18. I'll try to add some more results but please excuse any mistakes Saturday BIS - Samoyed RUIS - Corgi Baby - Stafford Minor - Puppy - Junior - Inter - BIS Ausbred - Open - BIG 6 - Samoyed RUIG - Akita Baby - Samoyed Minor - Sibe Puppy - Junior - Inter - BIG Ausbred - Open - Sunday BIS - Samoyed RUBIS - Cairn Terrier Baby - Minor - Puppy - Junior - Inter - BIS Ausbred - Dobe Open - RUBIS Neuter - Aussie BIG 6 - Samoyed RUIG - Dobe Baby - Tibetan Mastiff Minor - Samoyed Puppy - ?? Junior - Samoyed Inter - BIG Ausbred - RUIG Open - Samoyed
  19. Just an eensy teensy brag :D Can I start by saying Bundy "Anaky Harvey Wallbanger" is my first showdog and we have only been in the ring for 13 months. It has been a rocky road, he can by VERY naughty but he is also my spoilt baby and I love him dearly. On both Saturday and Sunday Bundy was awarded BEST IN SHOW I am still pinching myself Unfortunately we missed out on Friday because I had a course to go to with work ;)
  20. Runner up in group 6 Aldonza Esprit De McCoy. My naughty minors dam! Great day for Aldonza & Anaky with my first showdog Anaky Harvey Wallbanger getting his & my first Bis in Sa!!

When I first started showing I did use a human dryer briefly to dry my dog who was a puppy at the time on a low heat seating and it took me about two hours. I really couldn't imagine having to dry my dog now with his big coat with anything but a blower, it would take forever I don't however have much patience There isn't that much difference in grooming/washing/drying a Sammy for the show ring as opposed to a pet. I know when I wash, dry and brush my mums Sam who isn't shown it is exactly the same way I wash, dry and brush my own Bernym, if you can find a helper (victim) and just take it slowly you shouldn't have a problem. Start with the blower on very low and use lots of treats and calming words. You could even just start off with just 5 minutes a day on a dry coat until he/she is used to it. This is where a grooming table comes in handy but I used everything from the outdoor table to the kitchen bench when I was starting out ;) Shampoos - I use wool wash on the horses but it would probably make the coat too soft. A friend uses good old Velvet soap but I find with constant washing (every week) the skin becomes quite dry but it is great for a once a monther. So I use a combination of Groomers shampoos - the Royal Jelly and Whitening and Velvet soap. I have been told Plush Puppy products are also great but haven't gotten around to trying them yet. Now you know you have to post pictures
