Competition obedience trainer in Sydney
LabRat32 posted a topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi, I am looking for some private obedience lessons for my 1 year old Border Collie. We are currently competition in Obedience Trials and would like some additional lessons. I am located near Hornsby. Regards -
Hi All, I have been watching for a while and thought I would post to get some assistance. I have a 9 month old entire BC that I have had since 8 weeks. He is soft natured and I have done as much as I can to socialise him. He is pretty good on our daily walk and good with other dogs. Recently he had a couple of trips to the vet for a minor surgery and scans. I have noticed that he has been increasing more fearful, some of the behaviours I have seen are: * Wont walk in crowded places, alley ways etc * Barking to stranger- especially those that come close to our property * We went to get some alternate therapy and he was really scared, shaking and wouldn't come out from underneath my feet for a consult. He has shown some sign of timidness but the recent month have been a lot worse. I have received various advice on how to handle this, some says it is a phase, some says to ignore and not indulge him too much. It seem to be fear of particular situations as if we stick to open street, bushland, ovals he seems to be relatively comfortable. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It is an open day for the general public to showcase all the activities that you can do with your dog. There are shows, agility, obedience, herding, earth dog, DWD and Rally-o demonstration. There will also be stores for the dogs and generally is a fun day for everyone. -

How To Get Dog Working With Enthusiasm In The Ring

Really interesting... What would you suggest as secondary reinforcement. I see people in trials do targeting and circles in between exercises...Are these secondary reinforcers? -
How To Get Dog Working With Enthusiasm In The Ring
LabRat32 replied to LabRat32's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You are right Mason! My dog seem to be context driven. In training she thinks that I have food and reward and will work with good drive even if I don't have food. In the ring she knows I don't have any food and I can't get the same drive/enthusisam -
Hi Everyone I have been a long term viewer but I really need your help. I have a 3 year old Lab cross and she attained her CCD and Novice really quickly. We seem to have hit a bit of hurdle with OPEN as when I take her in the ring, I cannot get the same enthusisam and concentration as I get when I am training her. This especially applies for the heeling where in training she is reasonably good but when we step in the ring...she is slow and disinterested. The last couple of trials have been disappointing as she has not performed to her potential. Heeling has always been her most inconsistent exercise. It looks like when she goes in the ring, she isn't in the mood for working. How do I change that.It is frustrating as she doesn't perform well when it really counts... BTW...one reason could be that I train predominately at night and most of the trial is during the day. I haven't had a night trial to test the theory. Cheers

How To Stop A Dog From Mouthing The Dumbbell
LabRat32 replied to LabRat32's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
THanks everyone I think I may have gone too fast and didn't worry too much about the hold. When we first start doing it...she would come in and drop it at my feet. I was so happy that she was holding it...I didn't worry about the mouthing until now. Great ideas...I think I will only reward when she stops mouthing... -
I have a 3 year old Labrador that is going to start competing in Open. She is doing well with the dumbbell but we have a couple of problems 1) When she comes back with the dumbbell, she is constantly mouthing it. She is not doing it when she brings the dumbbell back...only when she is sitting in front 2) In the dumbbell over the broad jump...She is ultra keen and will bolt off after I throw it. It may be because she can't see the dumbbell after I throw it. How do I teach her not to go until I send her out to fetch the dumbbell. Any help will be appreciated...

Hi My 3 year old Kelpie X has a known contact allergy to grass. I have been able to keep her itchyness under control without medication and she really doesn't need it. However, I do obedience with her and she has been scratching when we go in the ring. I was wondering if it is possible to get the vet to prescibe cortoisone or atopica and give it only couple of days before the competition date. She has lost points for scratching in the ring. Is there any side effect or downside for giving dog medication only on special occasions. Thanks

Hi We train at Gannon Park, lugarno on Saturday afternoons from 3pm-4pm for the beginner classes and 2-3pm for the advanced classes. I believe this is relatively close to you. The classes are small and they use positive reinforcement methods.
