  1. Perhaps he should have bought one of these instead http://boingboing.net/2009/07/30/adult-toy-for-dogs.html :D :D
  2. Bookcase Top shelf has books, grooming equip, worming/meds, spare poop bags and clicker - useful stuff. Shelf 2 has collars (4 that I don't use..), a broken treat pouch and the travel water bowl. I should cull some of that! Shelf 3 has harness, a couple of leashes that I don't really use, cool coat and a dog towel. Shelf 4 has coats and towels. Bottom shelf has folders and various other crap that should really be tidied up. Mostly non dog related. On top there is a box full of tug toys (for a dog that won't bloody tug!) and a bungee leash that I don't really need anymore. On the side I have 2 large hooks with rings hanging on them. There are a couple of trial leashes, a breakaway collar and a cool collar hung on there. There is a wire shelf thingo and a plastic food tub in the laundry with more stuff - mostly treats, some spare bowls, treat toys and the cats food. All the things I actually USE (4 and 6ft gripper leashes, leather leash, flat collar, prong, martingale, dumbells) are on top of the crate in the loungeroom. Anything else is thrown in the spare room and the door shut quickly. I am afraid to look in there I have way too much crap. I really should do a big clean up and get rid of some!
  3. Does anyone have a copy of the Leerburg DVD Dealing With Dominant & Aggressive Dogs they that they are willing to sell/lend? Thanks
  4. Yeah interesting concept that one. I saw it too and wondered WTF they were on. Our new neighbours have a large female Lab x mastiff and a small male (Pom?) mix, both entire. Apparently it was fine to leave them together when she was on heat though because the male is "too small" to get to the female. Errrrrrr really? I'll be expecting some interesting looking pups next month...
  5. This is the harness that Erny is refering to - D&T Works: http://www.k9pro.com.au/products/Dog-Harness-DT-WORKS.html You can then attach patches with whatever suits you -GIVE ME SPACE, do not pet <LI>Do Not Pet <LI>Service Dog <LI>In Training <LI>Ask To Pet A harness won't "fix" the dog but it may help to make things easier with people in the street.
  6. Our local supermarket notice board is always interesting. At the moment there is a sign up advertising Aerobian Bullmastif cross pups, and someone selling a car with "centrel lok".
  7. The size is fine. But I don't think that it would be much different in terms of strength than a wire crate.. Would also be PITA to have to fold up/transport. If you want something nice and strong that will last forever go for one of these: http://www.ccrates.com.au/store/index.htm All purpose crate in an AP4 or AP5. or http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SOLID-STEEL-DOG-CRA...=item2eb0491b3a
  8. Can you afford it long term? Vet fees, general health care, grooming, worming, food, all the extras you'll need for the new pup, insurance, boarding if you need it, training equipment and fees. Do you have the time? Remebering that you will have to go through all the toilet training, crate training, basic obedience, etc, all over again whilst still keeping up with your older pup. You'll need the time to walk and train them seperately too. Is your current dog where you want him behaviour/obedience wise? Consider later down the track. Will you be happy to have two elderly dogs together? How will you cope if one or both become ill/have health problems? How will you cope if you lose both dogs close together? (due to age). If your answer is no to any of those I'd seriously reconsider (for now). Personally I'd wait until your current dog is at least 2 years old and over his teenage years. ;)
  9. Nooooo MEH...... please don't encourage him :p
  10. Have you tried placing the reward in front of him so that he is focussed on it and then releasing him to it after you return? Might help
  11. Personally I don't think there is a limit to how much a person could or should spend on a dog. If you are willing to pay the price then it's reasonable. If you are questioning why it is so high then it probably not. But then if you've done your research you'll know the answer anyway
  12. Yup. My Ridgeback still has plenty of room in his 42" crate. Actually he prefers to cram himself into the old 36" and does so regularly I'd think a 36" wire crate or a M/L soft crate would be fine for a BC.
  13. Get a puppy pen and/or crate. The bars are different and the pup wont be able to fit through them. Pens http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_tr...-All-Categories Crates http://home.shop.ebay.com.au/Pet-Supplies-...d=p3286.c0.m282 There is no reason to keep your pup inside until he's fully vaccinated. Get him out and socialise him, now is the best time! (Just be sensible in how you do it). eta - do you mean that you are not even allowing your pup outside in your own yard
  14. You also didn't get any breed specific health testing..
  15. Be aware that a lot of the popular camping grounds have been shut down this year due to the high river (well they have in my area) so double check with the council before you leave.
  16. Go Daisy! Kei's latest trick is to slam my hand with his paw when I'm holding the clicker - clicker goes off, he looks at me to say "Oi you clicked. Gimme my treat". That and kicking cones over during figure 8's because "if they're not there I don't have to do it right?" Wrong! Bloody dogs
  17. Sure Shot Perfect Shot Winning Shot Shot Silk eta; Trick Shot Shot on site Thats the Shot I like these
  18. I will have to try it in the interests. of science. Will be worth it just to see O.H try to catch me with a towel. And I might have to try it just to see how the neighbours react. Perhaps it will stun them into silence for a while. ;) I always thought the mad post bath zoomies were due to a surge in adreneline/rapid change in body temp.
  19. Great rugs have a few I think http://www.greatrugs.com.au./store/index.htm
  20. :D Here's some more. Malinois, not Dutchies but they could give my cat a run for his money!
  21. I don't care for kid's that much either, but it is easy to see that you need to see a therapist about your attitude towards them, dogs are often like there owners. What?! So because somebody doesn't particuarly like other peoples kids and would prefer to talk to the adult who is supposed to be in charge they need to see a therapist? errrrrrr...... If a child runs at my dog I don't stop to kneel down and gently explain "Oh no dear, please don't do that to the doggie, he doesn't really like it..." No bloody way. I use my body to block my dog and say NO! as loudly as I have to, to make them stop then and there - BEFORE my dog has the change to react. Kids are fast - dogs are faster. If you have a reactive dog why the hell would you chance it? And who is going to be the one that gets the blame if something goes wrong? Wont be the kid I assure you.
  22. Star - Do you think that would differ (your need to take your dog with you everywhere) if you didn't have the huge committment of school/study/work? You're studying to be a vet right How does she cope during the hours in which you are away from her? Just curious..
  23. NILIF = nothing in life is free. If you Google it you'll find HEAPS of info. http://www.k9pro.com.au/pages.php?pageid=100
  24. By "give them no affection" was the trainer refering to NILIF? If so it's certainly not bad advice. Have a read of this too http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=64101
  25. Only socialise your dog with RELIABLE, known dogs - perferably adults with solid ob training. you don't and IMO shouldn't let your dog meet every random dog in the street. Simply avoid the staffy. No reason for you to feel bad about it
