  1. Which leash you use is really quite irrelevant. You need to teach your younger dog how to walk nicely on her own before you try and walk both dogs together. Crate training both your dogs will fix the issue of barking at the gate. Whichever dog is left at home can then be crated inside the house with a treat/kong/pigs ear etc while you walk the other, then swap.
  2. Here's the recipe from The BARF Diet, Ian Billinghurst; Canine "multimix" patties... 60% raw meaty bones - 8Lb finely ground meat/bone ie chicken carcasses, lamb ribs, etc 15% vegetales - 2Lb minced veg, ie spinach, celery, parsley, carrot, etc 10% offal - 1Lb 5oz mixed liver, kidney and heart, crushed/chopped 5% fruit - 11oz minced apples, oranges, etc 10% various additives - 5 whole eggs (inc shell), 6oz ground flax seed, 6oz natural yogurt, 2oz kelp powder, 1oz fresh crushed garlic.
  3. You could always buy an XXS and have it taken in a few inches if need be. Just buy some velcro strip from spotlight, Big W, etc and attach that to a normal coat (you can get the self adhesive stuff or sew it on yourself). Patches you can buy seperately from K9 Pro and then just stick them on. Easy
  4. If she'll drink from plastic you could try one of those non spill/travel bowls in the crate Doesn't fix the problem of course but it does give you an alternative.
  5. This thread is bizarre. Corvus, I'm not sure what your argument is? Whether or not a prong collar is "a superior tool" depends on who you are, who your dog is and what you wish to achieve. You don't need scientific evidence to tell you that. Nor is it "hearsay". *edited for typo
  6. Says who? It's possible that the stabber was an absolute nutter who was going to stab the owner and his dog regardless - leash or not. It's just as possible that the dog DID rush at the guy, he stabbed it to protect himself, then owner reacted aggressively to this and was stabbed in self defence. Don't know, wont judge. It's a media report not a police report ;) That said I do think you reduce the chance of an incident by keeping your dog on leash/under control in public areas and/or not allowing it to approach strangers.
  7. Is your puppy likely to grow? How old is he/she? What breed? I don't think you'll find a harness that is Y-front AND has a handle AND has patches AND has a d-ring at the front and back. Which features are most important to you? The ruffwear harnesses are quite good.Iif your dog is small you can lift them up with the handle, you could velcro on your own patches (or have it embroidered) too, it does not have a front d-ring though and won't give you much control for walking. Clean Run have a cloud soft y-front harness - but no front d-ring and no handle. The D&T harness is probably a better "working" and ID harness though.
  8. Well that depends on how early ...and how cold it is! If you change your mind feel free to PM me (or Jo)

  10. If you're comming through Mildura on your way to Adelaide you should also be pasing through Renmark
  11. Ask a chiro... MRB, If your dog is struggling to focus on you when required perhaps you should look at her motivation and drive to work - as opposed to 'controlling' where her head is at. ETA, this thread has gone way OT. BorderBo - you didn't fail your dog. You did everything within your power to resolve the problems, but the dog simply wasn't suitable for you. You then did what was best by the dog by returning him. I can't see where the failure is in that.
  12. So I guess you haven't seen the ad for the pure bread cav, pure bread cocker and maltese chitsue that went up this week then.... I kid you not!
  13. Ugh I saw that one too - but lucky they aren't pitbull crosses anymore...
  14. I'm surprised she survived the birth
  15. THanks for this - I'm STILL looking for a raincoat. Can't seem to find anyone with a golden who can advise me on a size so maybe I'm alone here in looking for a raincoat. How many posts do I need to be able to look at the marketplace? Not sure, but you could just PM Meg directly ;)
  16. Yes he has, but it depends on what you want out of your dog Corvus.
  17. This is a bit misleading because Ian Billinghurst promotes feeding raw meaty bones & as far as I know has nothing to do with dogstardaily. Maybe you mean all the pups off lead in Sirius puppy pre-school. I am a big fan of Ian Dunbar's methods & you will find a lot of information, free downloads, videos & radio podcasts on the site. Dammit, I meant Ian Dunbar, not Billinghurst must have been tired last night I'll go back and edit The Billinghurst BARF books are great BTW
  18. I do. Wire crates in the kitchen and loungeroom, soft crate in the bedroom and for travelling. No problems at all. Another option (if you don't want to double up) is to use a playpen downstairs and crate upstairs.
  19. I'd get your hands on a good breed book (not sure which breed you are getting?) and a basic, easy to understand guide on puppy training and manners. Purely Positive Training - companion to competition by Shelia Booth would be my pick. Plus read all the K9 Pro stickies in the puppy and training forums (there are articles which you can download from the website too http://www.k9pro.com.au/index.php) Dogstar daily is good for basic info on puppy raising, crate training and toilet training (though personally I'm not a fan of the pro dog park socialisation stuff that Dunbar promotes) Leerburg has plenty of free e-books and vids. The Michael Ellis stuff is gold. http://leerburg.com/ and If you're interested in learning more about the basics of training: Clicker training for Dogs (good basic clicker book) Don't Shoot the Dog - both by Karen Pryor Excel-erated Learning - Pamela Reid Training in Drive by Gottfried Dildei & Sheila Booth Dogwise is great for books and downloads. They have a whole section on puppy related books http://www.dogwise.c...?SubCat=Puppies
  20. High five is an easy one. Or teaching the dog to hold an object and release it on cue.
  21. Out of curiosity, where did you buy it from and approx how much? PM me if you like ;)
  22. Those are fantastic! I've not seen anything like that here either.
