  1. YouTube is full of such crap. I came across one last week, of a GSD frantically trying to "kill" his tail while the owners actively encouraged him to "kill the robber" and saying how glad they were that they bought a Shepherd .
  2. I wasn't suggesting that KL use the harness to walk her dog, but rather use one with a GIVE ME SPACE patch attached as a deterrent against unwanted attention from other dogs/strangers. My post:
  3. KL, I wonder if something like this might help you when you are out walking Sasha alone: http://www.k9pro.com.au/products/Dog-Harness-DT-WORKS.html We have one with the GIVE ME SPACE patch. Obviously not foolproof but it helps. And I'd most certianly still use a martingale collar for control. Glad you are both okay.
  4. I know how you feel tlc. I get the "Who's walking who, hahaha" comment most days. Drives me nutty! OP, so you were rude, you cracked and you aren't proud of it. It happens. Learn from it and move on. Next time you will deal with the situation better.
  5. Yes. Best to start as you mean to go on. If you want her to go outside train her to go outside from the get go. You really have to wait her out, even if it takes 20 minutes for her to go. If it's very cold put a coat on - her AND you. For inside when you are at work/out put down a puppy pad (or even some grass if you can) but make sure you remove it whilst you are home and continue with the routine of taking her outside. Take her out after naps, after meals and after play. No, I'm pretty sure she won't be broken just yet :p Re your first post, 1.5 - 2 cups sound like an awful lot of food for a small dog, she is probably over-full! How much was the breeder giving her?
  6. Not your fault KL. And even if Sasha had injured the small dog it would still not have been your fault. Where are peoples brains sometimes? It really makes me wonder..
  7. BC Love, try Topbuy for cheap soft crates. They have these on special for the next week too http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/product/Lightweight-XXXL-Travel-Crate-for-Pets-Soft-Waterproof-Fabric-Easy-Fold-Away-p14748.htm Well if it helps I have 1 dog, 3 wire crates, 2 soft crates and an airline crate here at the moment.
  8. Great news BorderBo!! Thank you for updating.
  9. I feed my dog raw and was able to feed the K9 Natural straight up, no issues .
  10. Toughen up. You asked for advice and you got it. What on earth did you expect? Posts of sympathy instead? Hardly constructive... ...The best thing about the internet is that you can turn it of. Good luck with your pup.
  11. After seeing a what Beagle can do to a door frame in less than 15 mins I'd go a wire crate with a cover rather than a soft crate . http://www.ebay.com....=item2eb543d63e If you are after a plastic airline type crate PM Wayrod http://www.dolforums...er/9391-wayrod/ *Prices from member marketplace: Hope that helps
  12. Roughly $150-$200 per month for the basics - food (raw), supplements, training treats, Interceptor, pet insurance. If it's a good week he may gets extras, if I'm tight it's whatever is in the freezer. I do have a weakness for new training gear and books so do spend up big there occasionally, but those things are always optional and more for my own enjoyment.

  14. I really don't think you can over-do it tlc. I use the powder form rather then the capsules and dose for my large dog is around half to one teaspoon per day, however I've slipped more than once and he's got much, much more than that. It's never done him any harm.
  15. I use it every day and have done for the past 2 years. Personally I'd give it for at least two weeks after antibiotics/illness.
  16. Leash. Not easy being disabled..but she will have a long rope on her from tonight if she wishes to go out... Fair enough. Perhaps a long line/rope that you could tether to something solid either just inside or just outside the door and clip her on before letting her out then.
  17. DOL is extremely mild compared to a few other dog forums that I can think of ;)
  18. I'm not sure why people habe this obsessive need to pat their dogs whilst eating . Let him be! Feed him in the crate where he is secure and cannot be bothered. Taking food away from the pup and telling him off will likely reinforce his need to defend it.
  19. I always forget the treat pouch on me, or the training leash in my pocket, or ummmm the big muddy paw mark up the back of my jumper that I never seem to find before I leave the house. Nothing like getting half way to an appointment only to realise that you have drool right across your black pants either.
  20. This might be working for you now but I can tell you that it will come back to bite you on the arse sooner or later. It may seem like you are reinforcing the grass message, but you are more like reinforcing the it's okay to crap in your crate message. You really need to start as you mean to go on, so if she's toileting at the other end of the crate as a pup she will continue doing so as an adult. Whether she can hold on physically then is irrelevant, if she has been taught she can go in the crate she won't hold, she doesn't need to. Are you comfortable cleaning up crap from the crate of a full grown adult SBT? Personally, I'm not. Nor am I with the thought of a dog eating and sleeping in the same area as they crap. But hey if you can deal with that go for it, it's your dog. As for taking training advice from a vet - they are a vet trained to advise you on health related matters, not a trainer. Would you take behavioural advice from a doctor? Just a thought... The approach you are taking during the day (taking pup out to toilet every hour or two) sounds pretty good though. I also fail to see where others are getting the idea that this pup is crated too much? From my understanding the OP's husband will be taking pup to work with him during the day and pup is crated at night, I see no mention of her being crated all day ..or did I miss something?
  21. If she were my dog I'd rest her for a couple of days, semi bland diet (nothing new or fancy) and book her in with a chiro. I wouldn't subject her to the stress of vet tests unless she is ill or in obvious pain. Good luck
  22. Mason, what percentage of "ignorant" people do you think would be willing to spend $100+ on a prong collar for their dog? Let alone seek out a trainer/retailer who will actually sell them one?
  23. Woohoo this was me! coffee splurk! Huski called Roger Ramvet a douche I'm soooo glad they used that one Devastated that they neglected to mention Roger Ramvet though
  24. You cannot drop a puppy off at an office overnight, it won't learn a thing. Pups need to be taken out to toilet every hour or two to begin with which means you need to be close and you need to be quick. If puppy screams in the crate at night take her out and allow her time to toilet, make sure she isn't too hot or cold or thirsty, then pop her back in with a pigs ear to chew on (you may have to do this several times per night). If she continues to scream - ignore it. During the day you can work on building a positive association with the crate. As has already been said, the puppy will feel much more secure if she can see you. Sleeping on a mattress next to the crate or even elevating the crate on a box next to your bed initially can help too. If you think the crate is too big just buy a divider or use an object to block some of it off.
