  1. Easier? How? So you can make up for that 10 mins you saved vacuuming with hours of grooming.. Bullshit. BSL is the result of irresponsible owners.. A dog trained properly in protection is withou question extremely unlikely to be 'involved in an altercation'. Errrrrr..... Hmmmmm.... since 'fighting dogs' are not only illegal in this country but make up a very small percentage of the bull breed population I'm not sure what his point is?
  2. Doubtful that you'll find anything decent in the shops.. Try K9 Pro or Leerburg for high quality leather leashes. K9 Pro have a money back guarantee from memory. http://www.k9pro.com.au/categories/Leashes/Premium-Leather-Leash-Range/
  3. Does MooGoo have the dog shampoo out yet? i would love to try it on the dogs. i use their creams myself... Not sure... I use the human one for myself and my dog.
  4. I've found that wiping down with a wet cloth every now and then is better than bathing when they have dry skin. Gets out the dead hair too. Also try adding some melrose omega pet oil and/or oily fish to the diet and see if that helps. As for Shampoo, I've tried Aloveen and PAW (both Sensitive and Nutriderm) but found that Moo Goo has given the best results
  5. Nope. No vids yet unfortunately, though I have seen plenty of her dad. 10 days to go..:D
  6. My Ridgeback is fed raw only. The new puppy is coming to me on Bonnie and then will be switched to Nutro (and eventually raw). Having fed raw for so long I know bugger all about dry foods and there are way too many out there to choose from! In the end I chose Nutro simply because it's Australian made. If Nutro doesn't work we will probably give Royal Canin a whirl.
  7. I second Leerburg, plenty of free ebooks and videos. http://leerburg.com/dogtrainingebooks.htm The Michael Ellis DVDs are excellent if you want to learn about training your dog with verbal markers too.
  8. The article in the paper mentions that there will be a winners 'victory lap' around lunch time on Sunday so presume trials will be over by then.. But I'm really not sure what time the day actually finishes. *This might help; Bob Clarke - Trial Organiser Telephone:08 8588 2559 Fax:08 8583 2014 Mobile:0417 829 441
  9. Depends on what you want out of your dog. Always ask first, regardless of whether it is out walking, at training or in a dog park. Not all dogs are friendly, not all owners appreciate it either. ETA, ask from a distance - not when your dog is bouncing around at the end of the leash in the other dogs face.
  10. Mashing his face up against the crate while he waits for dinner. yes those are his teeth
  11. Retired Greyhound. Large, laid back, good with kids, doesn't require huge amounts of exercise. With four kids already and planning more I would defininitely go with an older dog. Puppies are extremely time consuming.
  12. A stick with a rope attached and a toy (usually a rag or tug) on the other end that you drag and flick across the ground to create interest.
  13. Pure bred of one breed x pure bred of another breed is a cross breed or an F1 cross. If two F1 dogs of the same mix are bred together (ie lab x poodle is bred to another lab x poodle) the resulting offspring are an F2 cross, and so on. From memory a purebreed must be at least an F5 cross?? Though I'm sure someone who knows more about that can answer. Cross breed x cross breed is simply a mongrel. IME the vast majority of "Maltese x Shih tzu's" are mongrels, rather than F1 or F2 crosses. Randomly bred SWF's with a name that sells ;)
  14. Nordenstamm Lol, well, that should silence the questions on if the dog is coming from a decent kennel! Yep.
  15. Hehe, yeah I had visions of sheepies taking off in random directions and chaos breaking out . I think we will try to get to the trials on the weekend for a look
  16. Work him for a shorter time at a higher intensity and then build up - don't let him get to the point where he shuts down. It takes time - my boy has taken me almost 5 years to get to the point where I'm happy with him. I agree with this. Stop when the dog is at a high point - even if that is 5 seconds in.
  17. Nordenstamm Oh Nek don't be such a pessimist. I'm sure it will be all sunshine and rainbows :p LOL yeah I already did that pre child. Pfffft, I waited every day for the postman but the Midget never came...
  18. Hey from what I heard she is most certainly not a Chi, but a shrunken Mali
  19. Mia is a clicker trainer. She didn't use a clicker at the seminar. Anyone who went to her seminar will tell you she uses "Goooooooood" and "Oi Oi Oi" a lot (she's a tiny person with a strong accent & a huge voice ) as reward and no reward markers and "yes" (which is the same as using the clicker ;) ) She's not against Prong collars either Is the "Oi Oi Oi" a NRM or to get the dogs attention?
