  1. Went searching this afternoon. All I was able to get was Purina total care flea control shampoo. The bottle says "kills fleas and aids in the control of paralysis tick". No idea if this would be useful or safe on a young pup? Might be worth using on my older dog as a precaution.. So far so good though and we have another vet check on Wednesday. She is still bright, happy and feral as ever. I don't think this girl knows what "quiet" is!
  2. Husband is on his way to the vets shortly to see if they have any. Otherwise I'd have to order online and it would take a few days to reach me. By which stage it might be useless? Is there anything that can be bought from either Woolworths or Big W?
  3. Thanks Ptolomy. She's a tough little nut, I'm sure she'll be okay .
  4. Thank you. This is very much in line with what her breeder has said. However he did say that ticks in their area are usually resistant to frontline plus so Advantix (if anything) was preferable. I am wondering whether a flea/tick bath would be the best and most gentle option for the pup and my older boy though? Given that there's no chance that either could pick them up again where we live? I'll keep checking both of them but will have to order treatment if needed as the vets here only stock frontline plus.
  5. Yesterday I found a paralysis tick on my 8 week old pup, raced her to the vet who found and removed another. She was thoroughly checked and no more were found. Ticks were quite small (around 3mm) and not fully engorged. The vet thought they had been there for 2-3 days max. (I've only had her for 2 and a bit). She is showing no signs or symptoms of being affected at this stage. Eating and drinking well, lots of energy and her gag reflex is fine. She's still being checked over constantly to make sure there are no others. We are not in a tick area here in SA (pup flew from a tick prone area though). The local vet does not stock the anti serum and has advised that if she shows any signs of being unwell that we will need to get in the car and drive the 3.5 hours to Adelaide for it. My questions are: How long does it generally take after removal for symptoms to appear? If they do, how long do we have? Is it common for a young pup to be unaffected if the ticks are found and removed early? Is there any point in using frontline plus or advantix now? (given that we don't need 'prevention' here). Would a tick wash be a better choice? Do other animals in the house need to be treated? Can paralysis ticks spread from animal to animal? Yes, I have spoken to her breeder who has given me some good advice. I'd like to hear others experiences though. Thank you. eta pic
  6. Yeah but she settles like an angel in her crate now so can't complain. Just wakes up spazzo .
  7. Thanks Erny. I'm still trying to get her to stay still long enough to take some decent pics.
  8. hehe yeah I know. She woke up, had a game of tug and a crap (and oh my can this thing crap! now I know why I feed raw), and a spaz around the backyard. She's now "killed" her bed several times, chomped on her toys and back asleep. ...perhaps I should take a nap too. On the whole though she's been very good today. I'm so impressed with how confident she is.
  9. Nope, but I think I finally wore her out. Only took 22 hours..
  10. Yeah she was an angel on the way home. What happened
  11. Low maintenance my arse! She squealed alllllllll night Squeak, squeak, squeak. chomp. Apparently she sleeps for 2 hours a night! o_O
  12. I though artificial sweetener was actually very poison for dogs..
  13. When the sprog monster pops out some more for me I'll keep what I like from her first litter if they're good
  14. Will have to wait until we get home to post pics. Unless Ness wants to do it for me
  15. Way too many questions, too personal and repetative. A lot of that (hip scores, health testing, performance/show titles, breed club associations) you could find out on your own with a little research. The rest would be answered by meeting the dogs and the breeder.
  16. Go buy a cheap play pen or a bunnings compost cage and fence it off. Problem solved.
  17. I like Fridge Or you could go with Freezer. Or Fosters... that goes in the Esky
  18. Nah ....... I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight!!! This ......sleep pppfttt!! :D HOW EXCITING ( and yes I yelled ) Yeah I am too bloody tired to get excited right now ...haven't slept properly all week! Around 3pm.
  19. Anyone who buys a bull breed in Victoria without ANKC papers needs there head read. Doesn't matter what the pet shop says, if it doesn't have the right papers and grows to even remotely resemble a pit then look out. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/227513-aust-officials-to-kill-pit-bulls-other-dangerous-breeds/ http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/225854-search-destroy-mission/ http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/226285-frequently-asked-questions-restricted-breed-dogs/ http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/226604-warning-bull-breed-owners/page__p__5492793__fromsearch__1#entry5492793
