  1. Crate Puppy pen Bedding - blankets and old towels
  2. Prong collars may be banned from use at SACA / ANKC club grounds and club related events, but they are certainly NOT banned in SA.
  3. Does vaccination lower a pups immunity for a short period of time until it takes effect? I'm sure I recall reading this somewhere..? I've just realised that the day my pup is booked in for a her second vacc is the same day that we have a training seminar booked in Adelaide. She'll be 13, almost 14 weeks then so I'm not sure whether to hold it off for 3 days until we get home, vaccinate that morning as planned or bring the appointment back to a week earlier? We're staying in the Northern suburbs overnight (the seminar is being held over the other side of town), she'll be contained and I'm very careful about where she walks but I'd rather not put her at any further risk than I have to. I'm not sure if there would be much benefit to vaccinating the day we leave? Or even the week before really? Any suggestions or advice?
  4. I guess you never have to go to the gym with that routine! I just double mopped my floors, i still can't get them shiney argh! little paw prints too and "bark at the mop" game that happens everytime It's so hot up here today, I think I might take pooch for her first beach experience. Shiny floors? I have a brief recollection of what that looks like. I had Elka hanging off the mop this morning. That was fun
  5. From memory it's around 2-4% of the dogs adult body weight (for a pup it's the expected adult weight). You adjust that to suit your dog though depending in activity levels, weather, etc. My 35kg adult dog gets approx 500-700g of meat/bone (roo tails, chicken frames/wings/drumsticks, lamb necks/flaps, roo mince, etc) each night. Along with that he gets a scoop of yogurt, a couple of tablespoons of minced veg mix, and supplements -ACV, Calm Supp, probiotics, omega oil. Then (depending on what's out cheap, defrosted or laying around) he might get an egg / some offal / left over rice/pasta / cooked oats / sardines as well. All in all it works out to be around 700g-1kg of food per day. Costs me around $2 - $3 per meal. Breakfast is whatever treats I'm using for trianing (not really enough to count as a meal though) or a 2 x 4 biscuit.
  6. Ugh, I wish. I was up by 6:30am, took puppy out for some tracking training, came home fed her, told hubby to LET HER OUT FOR A PEE before her left for work, put her in the pen, took my older dog out for a walk and some training, came home, pup has peed in her pen because someone 'forgot' to take her out. Crate older dog, mop up pee, take miss energiser out for some more training and socialisation, detour to pick up sick kid from school... Finally, two tired dogs, sick kid on the couch and I get to eat breakfast at 10:30am  Now I may even get to sit down for an hour before it starts all over again!
  7. what the hell? Mmm hmmm  Fat lot of good that would have done for a stress related behaviour too..
  8. I thought VIC (EHSC) was getting one too? Or maybe it's just been moved to SA? Gold coast is end of November. I'm pretty sure that Klaus is coming back to Australia in 2012 too.
  9. Yep, there are daily options. We're coming down for the Friday night and full day on Saturday. Looking forward to catching up.:D
  10. Imagine if he spent that hour training and exercising the dogs instead....
  11. Eeek! If I spent all my mornings cleaning up crap and vomit from the house I don't think I'd want pets! Kitty litter belongs in the laundry and adult dogs certainly don't need newspaper laying around overnight. Crate overnight and take them out in the mornings, they can hold. Not sure why there's vomit though?
  12. Sounds like my early obedience club experience. Dog pulls? it needs a halti. Dog barks? it needs a husher. Dog sniffs the ground? Vicks under his nose. Prong collars are EVIL, you're rewarding too much, you're doing it wrong, brace your arm and hold his head up, your dog is being defiant. now let them all play and run wild then drag them back in for a recall.. Argh! No wonder we stopped going. I'd train at home then go to the better club for mock trials and occasional proofing if they'll let you .
  13. Dogs won't starve themselves, they'll eat when they are hungry. But hey, if you want to waste your time hand feeding them then why would they get up and look for it? How are they making mess during the night? Are they not toilet trained? Are they destroying things? Why not contain them (in a crate, pen or laundry) so that can't happen?
  14. The dogs are bored and lacking appropriate leadership and structure in their lives. If they're fighting they need to be separated, if they dig out then either the fences need to be fixed so they can't or they need to be in concreted runs. Give them training, exercise, rules, toys, things to do during the day and proper containment and there will be no issue - they're only Staffies for Christs sake. Not monsters! Don't like you chances though...
  15. Your pup isn't 'backchatting', she's frustrated. Crate train her, then there is no worry about her getting into things she shouldn't. It will also make her more comfortable/confident and less stressy when she's left alone. An excellent book to get, if you have or are about to get a puppy is The Focused Puppy, from Clean Run The Focused Puppy It has been on Free Postage for over a year now, but unfortunately not any more, but it is still an excellent book & a "must have" Yes, great book! I lost my first copy from Clean Run but ended up buying another from here: http://www.agilityclick.com/prod53.htm
  16. Which Mal, who was the handler? I'll be down with Elka in Decmber and then into the serious training next year after Christmas break :D
  17. You will love it. Might see you down there soon too, we'll be down in December for the workshop then into the serious training next year when it all starts up again.:D Did you get to meet any baby Maligators?
  18. Ness you should just join ;) . Schutzhund Kenz
  19. Same goes with existing PIA policies. However they are all being changed on renewal so I'm guessing the same would happen with medibank?
  20. Hope you had fun Jacqui, it's a great club you'll learn a lot. And you'll probably get to meet Elka's brothers there too :D .

  22. Hi Jade, you don't really need more toys, just things she's interested in to keep her busy. Food toys and chews are good for that, or a pool to play in if she likes water, or if she's destructo (like mine!) things to shred. As for 'safe places' to take her, just be sensible about it and stay away from places with a high amount of dog traffic until she's finished her vaccs. I also have a 9 week old Belgian Malinois pup Each day she is taken somewhere new for a short period and exposed to different people, sounds and objects - kids, cars, music, bikes, scooters, automatic sliding doors, etc. Mostly carried around but if she shows the desire to explore I let her. Routine helps too. As for the food... this might help http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/64101-triangle-of-temptation/
  23. Try a fursaver. The fixed type ones, not the check chains. http://www.fordogtrainers.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66_79&products_id=3939
