  1. Thanks PME. Yeah I'm planning on running some chicken wire along the fence on our side for when she's in the yard. But the main problem is when she's in the dog run (and I'm out) - which is already a metre away from the fence line. I'll see if I can add a pic shortly...
  2. Nope, the fence is solid 6ft steel fencing. The dogs are going off at the sound of my dogs movement in her run. Neither can see each other.
  3. Just wondering if anyone can come up with a constructive solution here..? I'm having some issues with my 7 month old Mali barking when in her dog run - not at nothing; every time she moves/plays/picks up a toy etc, the neighbours dogs are throwing themselves at our fence barking, growling and carrying on. Of course my dog responds with yapping back (and her bark is LOUD and bloody annoying!). I need to put a stop to it quickly but short of either keeping her penned indoors or using a bark collar I'm not sure how? When I'm home I can give her a 'look' and put an end to it, but when I'm not there's not much I can do.. Some more info: The run is approx 1m from a solid 6ft steel fence and can't be easily moved (it's semi paved). The neighbours have a large shed running alongside the fence-line on their side. Last year they decided to cement the area between their shed and our dividing fence (fine with me as their dogs had been digging under it!) but they have now extended the shed roof so that it's only and inch or two from the fence - creating a permanent lean to type thing which their dogs now have easy access to. I'd think that blocking their dogs access to that area (perhaps with a gate or door?) would help and I will suggest it to them, just don't think they will be bothered to do so and unfortunately I can't make them do anything. Does anyone have any ideas? Or even suggestions I could make to the neighbours? Thanks.
  4. Confusing... I would have thought that the animal would not become 'available for sale' prior to 8 weeks. The breeder should be able to advertise pups before they are 'available' though??
  5. Okay, great, thank you. Yeah, that was my thoughts. To buy a single toy it would be comparable to local prices, but works much cheaper if you plan on buying a few. I was looking at the advanced 3 pack which works out to $100 euro with shipping (or about $130AU). The saving is around $30-$50 but not sure how long postage would take?
  6. Whatever you do make sure you also treat the environment (bedding, yard, carpets, etc).
  7. An update: I ended up buying the Kyjen treat wheel. Dogs love it but it's way too easy, they both solved it within 2 mins on the first go!! I'm definitely going to invest in some of the more complicated toys. Has anyone ordered direct from the Nina Ottosson web-shop in Sweden? The prices on their three toy advanced packs are cheaper than anything I can find locally... http://www.nina-ottosson.com/webshop.php Thanks
  8. I recently saw "mini Maltese" pups advertised. Underneath in brackets it said (Bichon Frise x Chihuahua) ...interesting how you can cross two unrelated breeds and get a brand new one! :p
  9. Just saw this on facebook http://waggle.com.au/ruff-wear-b1/palisades-pack-p382 Absolute bargain!! $199.95 down to $99.97. Only the small size left though... They also have Webmaster harnesses and Float coats out pretty cheap too http://waggle.com.au/specials.php
  10. That's gold. I've been asked what my Ridgeback is crossed with a few times. "Ummmmm another Ridgeback". Then get told "Oh, but he looks nothing like my Ridgeback x Mastiff??" No shit Sherlock.
  11. Yep. I had this happen to some puppy Kongs a few years ago (a total of 6 I think). I emailed the company and they sent out replacements. Can't remember what the exact response after they tested the old ones but it was basically along the lines of the rubber breaking down. Detergents and hot/cold temperatures (freezing / washing in hot water) can cause it apparently.
  12. Awesome puppy Nekhbet! Almost makes me want another ....almost
  13. I have the SchH OB book. Great book, just don't have the time to re-read it. A dvd would have been really handy about now. LOL ness, I'm coming to visit next time I'm in Adelaide.
  14. What's inventory error supposed to mean??? ...... "ummmm, we put it on the inventory and we shouldn't have" That was a quick delivery SK, I'm still waiting ETA Did they give you a credit for their 'inventory error'? Hmmm... it means.... "Thank you for ordering from Dogwise. Unfortunately, we do not have 1 of the Schutzhund Advanced Obedience with G. Dlidei DVD, We are missing 1 due to an inventory error. The out of stock item is no longer available/carried and cannot be reordered. The amount of $19.49 has been refunded to your credit card." Shame, as it was down from $65 and I've been looking for it. Still, I'm happy with the others that I got and the super fast postage. Thanks again for posting the link.
  15. One thing I think you need to consider with two large dogs living in the same household: If they don't get along do you have the time and facilities to keep them separate? Or alternatively would you be willing to return the puppy?
  16. My order came yesterday afternoon. Super quick!! Unfortunately the DVD that I really wanted was not sent due to an 'inventory error'.

  18. You can't You just need a bigger crate
  19. Dog doesn't sound aggressive, it sounds insecure. Personally I'd be feeding it in a crate undisturbed. Feeding in an open area and allowing free access to toys and bones is asking for trouble IMO. She's in SA? Tell her to contact Mark Singer.
  20. Buy another couple of pens and connect them together to make a bigger one. If the dog is already used to being left alone she probably won't even notice the extra few hours anyway.
  21. There's nothing wrong with physically correcting a dog for inappropriate behaviour, HOWEVER I wouldn't be doing it with a hit/smack (or stopping to make the dog sit). A quick pop or two on the leash and continue walking would be a better option IMO. Owning a reactive dog can be incredibly frustrating. Better not to judge unless you know exactly what you're dealing with...
  22. My dogs are not children and never will be - thank God! I'm slightly creeped out by people who refer to (or worse, treat) their dogs like children. Of course they fill a void but it is not at all the same. A dogs purpose is that of a companion, a team mate, a working partner ... but not a replacement child. Each to their own though...
  23. Anyone else seen this? That's one clever dog! http://www.dogwork.com/dlu9/
