Either rub it on their gums or let them lick it up off a plate.

Did I Do Something Wrong In This Situation?
Red Fox replied to Leelaa17's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry, I was dragged 30cm not metres. So collars are more effective than harnesses you think? (honest question), when I used to use them I felt like I had less control when they were on collars than now that they're in harnesses. And also, I didn't allow my dog offleash - he slipped out of his harness. Obviously because it wasn't tight enough. But I understand what you are saying and will try the pop technique next time. Thank you :) Good to hear it wasn't 30m!! Yes, I would definitely use collars over a harness. Martingales as they are impossible for your dogs to slip, or fur-savers locked into place high on the nexk with a s/s carabiner clip. Personally I use prong collars to walk 2 large dogs. Harness encourage most dogs to pull and, as you have found, can be easy to slip. -
It basically softens up the plaque making it easy to remove. I've been very happy with it so far, just forget to use it as often as I should!

Put your dogs in collars - if your were dragged 30m you do not have any control. What would have happened if you'd been dragged across a road?? Tightening the leash just builds frustration, keep the leash loose and pop to correct. I'm not going to say that you were 'wrong' but if you can't recall your dog you shouldn't be allowing it off leash. eta, sorry, just re-read that it wasn't an off leash park. -
Here you go; 4 year old dog, gets bones every day. Back teeth are good it's just what you see in the pic above. I haven't used the gel for about 2 months now and there's a bit of a build up of plaque. A week of using it every second day and a light brush usually takes that off though.
-
This; http://www.petzlife....salmon-oil.html given every so often will get rid of the plaque. eta, mine get bones every night - roo spine/tail, lamb flaps, whole chickens, etc and my Ridgeback still gets a similar build up on his teeth. The gel clears it in a couple of applications.

Mine too

I think so too. I've had mine for about 3 years now, lives in the back of the car and it's great. The new ones will live in the new trailer.

Bilious Vomiting Syndrome In Dogs
Red Fox replied to ChewieTAG's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
thanks @SecretKei I've just received the sample from VANS last Friday was looking at it for few weeks and reading through the forum then decided to ask for sample Not sure how well Snowy will take it but sample will be good to test his stool and his tummy I am not a fan of grains and stuff but I will sample it and see how Snowy goes.. If all well, I might consider the Complete mix for puppy? the vege are all steamed and mash to a puree then baked for few minutes to set it a bit. As for the rice, I do agree with the carb, so didn't put a lot of it but just enough.. As for the eggshell, I believe if not bone then eggshell is the next better option, because of the mineral the shell has in it. This is what I understand from research. *trying to distract myself from worrying too much over the coming surgery!* Oh yeah the surgery will be this coming Wednesday! I feel like *am I doing the right thing for SnowY* (ok stop thinking!) Complete mix would be fine. I don't think there's a lot of difference between the puppy and the adult versions? You could ask here if you were interested: http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/232270-vets-all-natural-perfect-puppy-nutrition/ There's nothing 'wrong' with eggshell, but if you're planning on giving it as the main source of calcium then personally I think there are better options available. Have a look here: http://www.greenpet.com.au/products/VETS-ALL-NATURAL-HEALTH-BOOSTER.html and here http://www.callicoma.com.au/supplem1.htm (the multi mix) Snowy will be fine, he has no idea that he's having surgery and when it's all done he'll have no idea what happened. Nothing to worry about. -
Bilious Vomiting Syndrome In Dogs
Red Fox replied to ChewieTAG's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Meat contains phosphorus, bones contain calcium. This is why dogs should be fed meat on edible/digestible (non weight bearing) bones. Veggies do contain some vitamins and minerals, including calcium, but no-where near enough to balance the diet. Dogs also digest vegetables differently to humans. You need to pulverise them raw to break down the cellulose wall for the dog to get any value out of them. And even then it's minimal. Rice will provide carbohydrates, but again doesn't have much nutritional value beyond a filler. Egg shell is not dangerous, but there are better options available. The Advance Puppy dry food is good. If you don't want to feed bones then I'd suggest you look into VAN http://www.vetsallnatural.com.au/ Basically you soak the mix overnight then add your choice of raw meat. Provides a balanced diet and saves all the stuffing around. You can get a free sample here if it interests you: http://www.vetsallnatural.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=71&Itemid=85 Don't stress over the surgery, your dog will be just fine. -
Bilious Vomiting Syndrome In Dogs
Red Fox replied to ChewieTAG's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Oh forgot to mention about the dog milk supplements that I am still giving. Divetelact and Farax. (1 milk powder scoop for each, daily) Breeder said that he can stay on both of it as long as I want .. so I am still giving to him. He is 8 months old now. I guess won't hurt him to stay entire. Maybe it's better for him as well but I want to avoid him learning to mark the territory. That's the only concern. He is starting to sniff around nowadays. I just hope desexing will not turn him much more scaredy cat than he is now. He's 8 months old? Desexing will make very little difference (behavioural wise). If he was going to start marking his territory he'd be doing it already. Why on earth would you give an 8 month old puppy Divetelact? It's designed as a milk replacement for baby puppies, not adults. http://www.sharpelabs.com.au/ Farex is a cereal, not a dog food. There is really no nutritional value in it. I don't intend to be rude as I think you're doing your best with the info the breeder gave you, but what you're feeding is not IMO a balanced diet. -

Are you adding any supplements and/or feeding bones or dry food?? That diet has next to no calcium in it. Personally I'd be adding some chicken wings and necks or switching him to something like VAN instead, regardless of what the breeder does. As far as desexing your dog, well you don't have to. There really is no rush and it certainly wont hurt him to stay entire. Re the vomiting, yes some dogs will eventually grow out of it. Space the meals out over the day, 3-4 smaller meals as opposed to 1-2 larger ones- and that should help. -
Just posting on the off chance that someone may be able to help in transporting a trailer from Bendigo to either Adelaide or possibly Mildura. Of course we would contribute to fuel costs, etc. Please PM or email me (mercuri @ aapt . net . au) if you can help. Thanks

Would it be possible to buy a medium 4 berth trailer and convert it to two larger berths? Do they differ in height?
-
Unless I can find one in SA it's unlikely that I'll be able to check it out myself. I may be able to find someone else to do it for me though.
-
Thanks. Do Toledo sell second hand trailers, or only new? As much as I'd prefer new it's way out of my price range at this point in time.
-
I'm considering buying a dog trailer. My requirements are; easy to tow, well insulated and ventilated (particularly for warmer weather), 2-3 large berths (needs to fit a Ridgeback and a Malinois comfortably), internal wire + solid external lockable doors. I'd also like internal lighting if I can get it. I regularly travel long distance for training so the trailer must be able to contain the dogs comfortably for decent periods, particularly in the warmer weather as the car is too cramped and too hot. My thoughts are that a trailer would be safer and roomier than unattended crates and better ventilated than the car?? I'm looking for second hand. My budget is around $2500. What else do I need to consider? What questions should I ask sellers? Is there anything that I be wary of? Any preferred brands to look at? And is it okay to buy one from interstate without seeing it myself first? All advice appreciated. Thanks

It is really hard for me to tell sorry SecretKei the pic isn't clear enough. About 2-3mm. Lighter in colour than the one in pic you posted too..

These are paralysis ticks. You can see the size from the ruler. They had been on the pup for approx 2 days, she was fine.
-
If the pup is running around but can't concentrate then it's highly likely that she's overtired. Rather than train at this time give her Toy/chew/Kong and put her to bed. Do your training before meals when she is hungry, motivated and has a clear head. She'll learn faster that way. It's about quality, not quantity.

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
Red Fox replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
He won't be bred from. II'd like to re-implant at least once more before deciding whether to give him a vasectomy, desex, or leave him entire. That was the plan. I'm not sure what her seasons are like yet as she's only just had her first. I have the facilities to separate them if need be though so while it's a PITA it's still do-able. He showed no interest in her at all with the implant which was good. Temperament wise it has affected him. He's sookier (but I wouldn't say too much softer), less interested in other dogs (this is where I've noticed the biggest difference), still showing fear based re-activity towards strangers (I was concerned that may get worse but so far it hasn't). Good idea, I'll contact them soon and ask. -
Sprenger also make a nice rubberised long line, it's a bit lighter and finer rubber than the gripper brand This seller is in the UK but are reliable and postage is fast and cheap, normally takes less than 2 weeks to arrive: http://stores.ebay.com.au/LuvMyDog-Worldwide/Tracking-Field-Agility-Lead-/_i.html?_fsub=1891987011&_sid=785659281&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322<br class="Apple-interchange-newline">
