  1. I don't have any thoughts against desexing from a young age. Infact; i would much rather have her done before her first season; then to go three three weeks of tarty hell and stray dogs visiting just to desex her afterwards. It's your choice, and no one elses, but i honestly have no problem with desexing at 12weeks or whatever. For what it's worth; Bliss, my dog's sister was done at 6months, she's an australian shepherd and took to it no problem. have a look at drug sensitivity with australian shephers, i know some aussies who arent affected by MDR1 still can't take many painkillers. Discuss with your vet.
  2. sorry i have no advice or information, but will keep an eye on this thread for my own educational gain. Best of luck hun.
  3. Can any vet to it and send the films off for scoring, or are there only a select few that can do it? Also, do girls need to be knocked out for the xray or are they able to lay still? How long does it take to have the scores in your hands? What sort of price would you be looking at per dog for medium dogs between 20 and 25kilos? Thanks.
  4. Depending on the weather i might have to sport some bike shorts too. ewww.
  5. She looks like my "thin" Australian Shepherd bitch. i think they are both healthy, and a little naked around the tummy
  6. What's everyone's thoughts on having the breaks changed over, so that the back breaks would be on the right hand, seeing as your left hand must hold the leash. My reason for asking is: if you have the leash in your left like it says you must, and you break with your right; you would go over the bike right? BF says it would take a few minutes to do, and to see if anyone here had already thought about, or done it.
  7. And with this; learn to use your gears, You will be thankful. Drop gears on grass. Other tips with your bike.. buy a good seat and raise it so that you can hardly touch the ground - that way you are almost completely stretching your legs out, instead of keeping them bent and risking ache.
  8. Can I suggest crate training? You buy a crate for each of them and teach them to be locked in there to eat and not come out untill they are finished dinner. Once they are done, they don't get anymore food. Sorry; dont have much advice, but i have never heard good things about taking food away from a dog when you've already allowed the dog to eat. It's teasing and teaching them to be protective scoffers.
  9. its on three different terrains.
  10. I would get her chipped and desexed as soon as possible.
  11. I'll buy the red one off you if you cant find someone to swap with. ;)
  12. Is anyone going to buy a springer for practising? I know you can't use them in the test, but has anyone thought much about practising with one? to teach the dog where is the safest place to run alongside the bike?
  13. YES! Take Kenzie! Will she be two by then? :D its not 20kms in one run though, it has breaks. Although, Millie will probaby be a week off coming into season, so I really hope she doesn't come in.
  14. It is Saturday 26th June at the German Shepherd Dog Club SA West Beach. It usually starts at about 8am. Would you be interested getting together closer to the date at West Beach for a couple of training runs? My main worry is getting Kynan to run in a line with other dogs and to get him used to passing and being passed. Thanks for the details re date and time. ;) I really would if i was closer, but i live in Whyalla. its a 4 hour drive there. I'll be driving up early on Friday morning and will be coming back Sunday. I'd love to do a practise with you on the friday however. That's the only time i would be able too as Adelaide is just a bit too far to drive for practise. How long untill we can send in forms to attend?
  15. The rules state that they will cancel the test (no matter how far into it they are at the time) once the heat reaches 24. ETA: I hope it's early morning in SA then. :S
  16. I will be doing it with my Australian Shepherd bitch Millie. She will be two years old on Thursday the 18th. Thanks for the links. What is the actual date? I must begin perparing again.
  17. Picking up Cooper; i met the litter, the mother and all the other dogs. mum was with the dogs and pups were weaned. By not having mum there was no distraction, and i could focus more on the pups at my feet. I found it easier then trying to avoid a bitch who might be protective of pups, or find it overwhelming with new people handling her pups.
  18. Please let me know how you go. I want to take two dogs in May, so would love to know how you found everything. Price, service, turn around time, everything and anything please.
  19. http://www.asylum.com.au/2010/02/09/man-op...z00020000000001 A man who claimed he could not afford medical care for his dog has been charged with illegally operating on the animal. Alan MacQuattie, from Barrington, in the north-eastern state of Rhode Island, removed a cyst from the leg of his 14-year-old labrador-mix . But professional veterinarians had to operate again after an infection developed following the botched job. E.J. Finocchio, a veterinarian and president of the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in the US, called the surgery a "heinous crime". Court records show that Mr MacQuattie pleaded no contest last week to misdemeanour charges of animal cruelty and unauthorised practice of veterinary medicine. But he told a television reporter that he did not think there was anything cruel about what he had done. Hear from MacQuattie, after the jump.
  20. Whatever is fun. Does Poppy know her name? Teaching her to come to that is a good start, call, come and praise. showing her a treat and slowly holding it up past her head so she automatically sits, then saying "Sit" and treating immedieatley.. Once they are down pat, try having her sit and then holding the treat out of reach on the floor encouraging her to drop for it. Following with the word "Drop" and immediate treat. Dont say the word untill she does it, if she wont do it, get her up and start again.
  21. It can be anything, on the lease walking around the house.. sitting for a treat. standing up for a tread. laying down for a treat. putting him in a crate with a treat or troy and letting him out when he quietens down. There's so many easy little things you can do.
  22. Not of that one, and not on this computer either. ;) The bars are really good and it's a pop up crate.. one that you dont need pins or ties for. :p Bars are thicker then the other crates on the site, and the other crates need pins.. I have those too.
  23. Yep. I have a fair few for Australian Shepherds. For Pugs, the crate i bought for my pup would be okay size.. lemme grab a link for you ETA: this one. It's small enough for me to have a Aussie puppy in, would be fine for a pug too. http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/dog-cage-76x60x48-cm/
  24. I'm fairly certain that a pup must be microchipped and atleast 8weeks of age before being sold or placed in most places of Australia.
