Thanks for that Vickie, it's good to know and at least I know than I can wear my sandshoes. I was just worried with the fast dogs going around the corners if they slipped so thanks for that
-
Hi Vickie Did you just use normal sneakers or any particular shoes like the hockey shoes or special agility shoes at all. The fast dogs didnt have any issues at all with the dirt. just curious

Slight typo error Ash did it in 24.75 not 25.75 umm opalgirl lol it's 24.75

From Wikipedia "An early Kelpie, Sally was mated to Moss a smooth haired Collie and she produced a black pup that was named Barb after the black horse, The Barb who won the Melbourne Cup in 1866. This then was how black Kelpies became known as Barb Kelpies.[8] There were a number of Kelpies called 'Red Cloud'. The first and most famous was John Quinn's Red Cloud in the early 20th century, and then in the 1960s another "Red Cloud" that became very well known in Western Australia. This started the tradition in Western Australia of calling all red or red and tan Kelpies, especially those with white chests, Red Cloud Kelpies." Thanks Dancinbcs

Hi Guys thought I would put the last brag for year 2011 we had an agility jumping and gamblers trial. It was 41 degress and hot and it was delayed till 8.ADM I had dogs that would have been on red cordial they were just out of control. Gabby won ADO JDO and GDM and Inka got a 3rd in GDM 5th in ADO and a 4th in JDO. At 2am trying to work out a course with 7 entries to tunnels wasnt much fun and noone qualified at all and I think there would be some winning videos for the Funniest Home Video Show. This is her brother Ashwyn and Gabby in JDO. Ash is the first dog. It was a 36 sec course and Gabby did it in 24.50 and Ash 25.75 so it was pretty close hopefully this has worked

I have a question about colour. Understand the chocolate and the red kelpie but am confused about the red cloud kelpie which is basically a chocolate. I want to know what is the difference and why is it only in WA they are called that Just very confused about it and when I have asked nobody could give me an answer. Thanks guys

How are you finding that they are different? Well not having a spare hour or so my answer will be abbreviated and generalised (LOL). The old saying 'ask a border collie to jump and he will say 'how high?' Ask a kelpie to jump and he will say 'why?' is very true ! The kelpies have every bit as much athleticism and drive as the BC but are much more 'show me the money' dogs. This might make it sound as if the BC is easier to train, but not always so, because I want the reinforcement to come from me rather than the agility equipment ....... so need to make sure I don't fall into that trap where I don't work as hard to be the one with the rewards. (Sorry, badly explained but hopefully you know what I mean) The BC constantly looks to me for direction, whereas the kelpies think they know more than I do (which is probably right in many cases) and like to be a lot more independent when working. I find the kelpies more mentally draining before I go into the ring to make sure they are in the Goldilocks state of arousal (just right !) whereas I dont have to do as much work in that respect with the BC - she is ready to go 24/7. The kelpies are a lot more forgiving of my handling errors than she is - in fact she is so super responsive and fast that I only have to be out of postion by a fraction and it's all over. My Q rate with the kelpies is much higher, but having said that, the BC is still a 'baby' (just coming up to 2 and a half) and only has a few months trialling experience under her belt. We're not a team yet in the way that I am with the kelpies. I find my kelpies to be more 'thinking' dogs when it comes to shaping - it generally takes them longer to 'get' something but once they do it is a very strong behaviour, whereas the BC will offer things in a frenzy and if I am quick enough to capture the response I want then the behaviour comes quickly but often more by accident than anything else. Getting her to slow down and think is more of a challenge. If I graphed the time it took to teach a behaviour, it would show a steady incline for the kelpies, whereas for the BC it would be flat for a while and then all of a sudden there would be a massive spike- latent learning seems to be much more applicable to her. I have also found it much harder to change the way I do something (in regard to agility) with the kelpies, whereas the BC seems to be much more adaptable to trying something in a different way without falling back on old behaviours. The kelpies in particular seem to thrive on routine. These are only generalisations for my own dogs, not meant to be a tried and true list of differences between the 2 breeds, but what I have found so far. (And I love them all, even though I swore I would never have a BC ) I think my border collie must have been a kelpie. I had found her to be hard. She doesnt like change and loves her routines. She thinks she knows where the course goes better than me and I use to have to work hard to second guess her. She is totally different to the coolies. The coolies loved to learn and do different things and you can change the training anyway and they dont care but the border collie she just shuts down. She is much better now that she is older. I had a kelpie and she was a mad thing but that was in the days when we use to heel the dog around the course and boy you couldnt do that with the kelpie. If I had her now she would be awesome especially with the knowledge that I have now.

Congratulations to every one that had passes Congratulations to RS and Ruby on your JDX title now off to Masters lol Just had to put my brag in after failing my udx trials just about every trial since May cause of the towels and the seekback Gabby got it sorted and passed for the first time with 186 yipeee!!!!! now I have to wait for another 4 months before we have a trial
-
I'm here and I am still on cloud 9. Sorry I couldnt get on here last night but I ran out of credit for the computer and it was too hard to run around at 11 last night lol Thankyou guys for allowing the scent fairy to come to Adelaide and thanks to Sally for grabbing on to her so she actually stayed in Adelaide. I couldnt believe how enthusiastic she was and once we done the towels I thought we had a good chance of passing. Gabby got 29 for her seekback and considering that the last time she had passed that exercise she only got 19 for it. PIM 38 26 for towels28 for both change of positions and sendaway and 13 and 14 for MR she actually didnt drop it for a change but found out she couldnt do a clean pickup. So proud of my girl and now have to wait four months before we can get into another trial. I also had her in open and she got 193 and second place and well Inka she doesnt know how to drop but she did beautiful bows though and she just loved her metal articles so why pick up leather lol Going to be awhile before I come down lol
-
A huge congratulations Bedazzledx2 and Brookie on your udx title. "Oh whatta a feeling". Wish me luck we are off to do udx again ho hum probably cant do seekback or the towels but hey we can do it in training. Just one of these days we might just get it. Tonights the last obedience for the year so we will have to wait till next year lol But once again congratulations
