We just got back from our country trial the riverland where we had the four season happening over the 2 days. My little baby coolie Gabby who just turned 2 last sunday got two legs of her ud. The first one with not so great of score of 177 and third and was beaten by her sister. The weather on the first day had been pouring with rain a little bit like today and Gabby doesnt work in the rain at all so for her to work and pass I am so proud of her (might add got a couple of subs for not sitting though LOL) the next day we had lovely sunshine which is what young Gabby prefers and cracked another pass with 193 and first place. The Saturday my border collie Inka got first in ud with 183 and Xena got first in ud with 180 and a fourth in open with 189 (pity I couldnt throw a dumbell properly with frozen hands wouldnt have lost my four points ) Sunday Xena got 195 and first in ud. So overall a good weekend with 6 qualies out of 8 and qualified 3 out of 4 in ud

Yep only with Xena doing Ud games are quite fun though except for snooker dont like snooker
-
Nah won't be entering the States. chicken

Congratulations Rivsky on your passes and for your title Have you entered the States? Well we had a brilliant weekend my old girl Xena who will be 11 in December got a first in the obedience trial on Saturday with 196 and than in the games trial got two thirds in strategic pairs, 2 passes in gambler masters (cant remember the placings though )and a first in snooker master and Inka got two third in strategic pairs masters and my baby girl got her title in gamblers novice with a fourth was a bit of a naughty girl though and wasnt listening and got a second in the novice gamblers and a first in snooker novice. off to the Riverland on the weekend for two days of obedience

Congratulations to Julie and Pele on your title. Now for the CDX. I had entered my girls today as well. Was very proud of them. Inka got a first in one of the open rings with 197 and Xena got a first in open with 195 and ud 191 and first. Little Gabby did a couple of things wrong like jumped the wrong jump and absolutely froze on the wooden article didnt help when she just about got it into her mouth and somebody outside the ring screams out no. Owell next week is another trial. The winner for this year Balmead Shield was "Dover Gardens" for the third year in a row

Well done, Biker girl. Once the first one is finished it's fun. Good luck for the day. Should try and get a video of it would love to see it
-
Yep, typical aint it. Why than can they not do it when you have paid your money and that there is a rope around arghhhhhhh
-
I'd say that would be the best idea ever
-
Here, here Totally agree on that one or just forget about the sit stay and just do drop stay and doesnt matter if dog does dead dog in stays as it was very hard to get to the stays
-
Hi Rivsky Yep I had a treatment done on Inka (Neuro Skeletal Dynamics). She had said something about her neck and asked if she crashed into a door which she hasnt. When I was talking to mum about it she said Inka and Gabby play tugger war with there tuggies and swing each other around so swinging a 10 kilo dog around with a neck is not much good so no more playing tuggy with each other and they are not impressed at all. Everytime we see them doing it it's no and they go off to sulk Hopefully that will solve the problem they are getting another treatment next week. Xena feels great after a treatment she didnt stop barking yesterday very different from the dog I had at Dover she was one miserable girl
-
No all the problems about the sit stays. Have lost lots of passes cause of that and especially one very special pass that my border collie got and that was 200 and yep she lay down When I train I dont do a lot of drop stays only the sit stays and reward. I always tell my dogs to sit for sit stay and drop for drop stay. Xena my coolie hasnt really stuffed any stays up apart from doing dead dog in drop stays so we loose more points my border collie has just started now for the last 18 months breaking her sit stays but we havent done any open in trials practically all year and my young coolie decided to do something very different and stand up. Dont know if when you are trialing and your dog has broken the sit stay do you do the drop stay. I dont I pull my dogs out and do another sit stay straight away and than reward. Your actually praising the dog to break position. Another thing I do is praise the dog in position and at training I feed in the position telling my dog what a good sit stay that she has done. I have also seen people after they have done the sit stay pat the dog and than drop the dog in position this encourages dogs to break the sit stay as they are anticipating the drop stay The other thing it can be habit forming nothing happens in the ring good I can do it that is why I gave Inka a break. Also check to see if the dog is ok I had Inka checked up and found something with the neck and since treatment she did sit and stay (Playing tug with the younger pup and swinging her dont do that anymore) Also it does seem to be a BC problem Good Luck with your dog

Congratulations to Ness's ADM title that ADO wont be long but you shouldnt threaten poor Ness on retirement cause she may think that is it and she still wants to run :D Congratulation to you too Rivsky and little River he did well :D
-
Congratulations to Pele and Bully on your pass. The title is around the corner I would say err Sunday Young Gabby got her second leg of ADX with a first place. Just another 3 legs to go. Inka and Xena got 3 passes each. What good girls. Today we went to an obedience trial and Inka won open with 197 and Xena got 195 and second place. Xena also got second with 175 points in ud. Naughty girl managed to get 2 substantial anticipating :D so lost 16 points for the last 2 exercises :D Young Gabby was in ud but decided she couldnt pick the wooden article up and nosing it should be okay and we also forgot that you sit in the box so the second sendaway decided she should do it correctly (sat in box and jumped the same jump again ;) ) O well next weekend there is another trial so hoepfully will be better there LOL
-
Hey congratulations Piper. Umm when are you coming back and doing the agility thing again
-
We have been to a country trial doing agility. What a weekend with my older girls. Inka qualified 7 out of 8 runs with only 1 run was a knocked bar. She got 3 first, 2 second, 1 third and a fifth. Xena my 10.5 year old qualified in 6 out of 8 runs one of her runs she slipped on take off and crashed through the jump but she is ok and the other run I totally stuffed her up where I did a front cross which I shouldnt for some reason decided to copy everyone else Pretty good for the old girls. My youngster well she did manage to pass one of her ADX and a JDX getting both first places but had managed to fail 6 out of 8 runs. That wasnt good odds at all :D

Why I compete? For something to do on weekends, the training and being with my girls all weekend and they love it! is even better when you get the quali card though.

Your Very First Obedience Trialling Dog
xena98 replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Here you go Ruby I had done obedience for donkey years in fact I started trialing my first dog in 1986 My first dog trialling dog was Sheba a German Shepherd X Doberman. I got started started in school with our pet dog a german shepherd x corgi she was old and fat but it got me interested so when I got my new puppy Sheba off I went to dog school. In those days you use to use the collar no food no play it was a big tug on collar and a pat. so you do your right turn you gave a massive tug yelled out heel and off you go. Poor girl no wonder she hated heel work but I didnt know nothing was still going to school and was listening to the experts. They were telling me all about trials which I never knew so off we went never forgotten my first trial. I was so proud of my Sheba we got 171 our first leg in CD (no ccd or profeciency in those days) till this lady told me that was disgusting and how her dog was on 196 and just got back from the nationals. Well I decided to prove her wrong any way got my title than it was onto CDX didnt have a clue what I was doing. One of my problems was the drop on recall spent 2 years working on that one. Went to another club for extra training eventually we got there. so by this time she was 4. I met a guy at the club he had a beautiful Labrador and he had an AOC (that was what it was called in those days Australian Obedience Champion) I asked him how to get it and he said all you needed to do was get a UD title and a TDX title (tracking dog excellent title) which gave you an AOC so I said yep I will get that and he told me forget it I would never get a ud title my dog is crap the heel work is crap and that you needed decent heelwork to get anywhere and that your dog should be above 185 to get anywhere. Well that was a real downer I was upset I only had done a little bit of UD and that stage and this brilliant trainer had told me my dog and I were crap and wouldnt get anywhere. My scores were only averaging 175 (so you can cjust imagine how much stuff up in my training no food no play and really no rewards and that was how it was in those days. After I thought what this guy said to me I thought bugger you your not going to put me down I am going to get that AOC title so off I went and trained in tracking. UD took about 4 years (never forgot someone said to me the first dog 12 months training 12 months failing and than the third year a pass and that was happened with me) Might add Sheba didnt want to pass in normal trials though Royal Show and the Autumn Festival she passed and after 8 years I got my AOC after everyone said forget it she is hopeless and so are you. I might add by the time I got my next dog I thought there must be another way of training and getting the dog to be happy and I started with the food and toys. I did get stirred and told that aint going to work but I still had stuffed up my heel work but my retrieves the dog flew. There was one person I will never forget her advice and I told years later and she had told me that if I had attention on me the whole time my dog should get 200 the only reason my dog would loose points cause she wasnt paying attention and boy did I work on that one. My kelpie Milo she got her AOC around the 5 year mark and her scores were around the high 180's and we also got the new OC title as well and that was the days that was 5 185 scores with 3 first places and that was hard. I also did a Jack Russell Terrier he taught me lots he got up to ud but unfortunately he didnt pass. Than I got my Xena that I am still trialling today around 3 years of age her OC and Inka around the same age she got her OC and my new girl she is only 23 months and she had one trial in ud and she only failed to sit up. she will be compete on Sunday in ud so overall with 6 dogs got 4 OCs one didnt make it and one in training. Both Xena and Inka have there Agility Champion title as well. Thanks to Sheba and Rambo they had taught me lots and I have used that over my other dogs still made mistakes trying new ways watching other people and to those people in the early days thanks to you guys for rubbishing me and my girl Sheba you made me determine to succeed and work on my problems so thanks to you guys you made me a better trainer than I probably would So Ruby sorry about how long this was even if you think you have stuffed up dont give up cause you will get there. Another piece of advice which I found in Sheba that she hated CD work all that healing but once we got higher they loved it. So dont give up and good luck with both of your dogs -
They flow really nicely - can be really tricky in parts, but even when they do get that way there is a flow for the dog if the handler gets it right. VERY few judges set courses with sequences that are hard on the dog physically so to speak - before they are allowed to let loose on the competitors with courses they are reviewed by a senior judge. Thanks I was really impressed with my girls though they worked well all weekend. Going up to the Riverland this weekend and see what happens my baby will be in both excellent agility and jumping so that will be interesting

Congratulations Di and Flyte and Brodie I thought I put in my little brag from the State Agility Champs. My Border Collie Inka is the 2009 SA State Agility Champion Runner up in Masters Agility and also came third in both Open Jumping and Jumping Master. My other girl Xena who is 10.5 years old is the 2009 SA State Agility Champion Runner up in Open Agility. My other little girl Gabby who is 23 months old didnt do well in the finals but got in both novice agility and jumping finals. Also got her JD title over the weekend with 3 first places she did that with 2 weekend trials. She did have a brilliant weekend though with 3 first places in novice jumping and a first place in novice agility. One of her courses was 38 seconds and she did it in 17.1 seconds
-
Hey congratulations guys on your passes Today Gabby got her AD title. She had done it in 3 trials all with first places. Actually she hasnt been beaten. She also qualified in open obedience with a score of 191 points and first place. Not to be outdone by her sister Xena who had passed with 191 in open obedience (would have been 193 if for not playing dead and losing 2 points)and a third in master jumping and her other sister Inka with 190 first in ud and first in master jumping cheers Danni
-
Well, we just got home from an obedience trial and young Gabby had just got her CDX title at a tender age of 22 months old. Today she got 198 and first place. For her title she got 196,197 and 198 all with first places. I am so proud of my baby. Now onto utility LOL cheers Danni

Congratulations to all the qualifiers I have a little brag my 22 month old german coolie Gabby was in her first agility trial (not including her two novice gamblers they were practice in the ring and she had passed them and got 2 first places) We went to a country trial for the weekend to Whyalla (5 hours from Adelaide)Gabby did 2 novice agility and 2 novice jumping courses. Her two novice agility she passed with two first places but she failed her two novice jumping courses though one was a knocked bar coming out of the tunnel and the second one was a very hard novice course with only one passing and she did it with a very steady dog. I was so pleased with how she worked next weekend we have another trial so we will see how we go LOL
-
Well I have managed to catch her standing at training as she did it and since than she has been fine so I dont know if its fixed at the moment and it'll come back with vengence at a trial or not
-
Thanks guys I shall let her know. Hopefully I will see her in training to let her know
