Zoe was a little miffed for the first couple of days. She was 10 at the time and pretty set in her ways but she wouldn't be without Moose now. They loves each other. She plays a lot more these days and is a lot more active. She turned 11 last week and Moose is 1. Some bonding moments...

Looks like a little TM to me, as in trademark.

Yep, rubber brooms are excellent, you can get them at Bunnings I think. Makes me sick when I use it though because then I can see how much hair is actually in there.
-
Congrats! I got my 3 dog permit recently too. Now just to get a 3rd dog.

Rogz makes reflective collars but I've only looked at Chihuahua sized ones. I will check if they have giant breed ones next time I'm at the shop.

I wish you could get Manuka honey in WA, I'd love some.

I've never forgotten to feed them but I do usually fast them once a fortnight. They sometimes act like they're dying but they are a couple of drama queens.

It's sad that I'm not really surprised by some of the things people have said in here. Brooke, it's a fantastic thing you're doing for these children. It seems like some people here fail to realise that nearly all of these kids don't end up in these situations through any fault of their own. They are innocents that are neglected, abused and mistreated by their own families and you have taken them in to try and show them a better life. To just give that up I think would be terrible. I hope things work out for Ben and he can be rehomed where the living situation is less stressful for him and he can be happy again. Best wishes.

Okay thanks guys, that explains it. :D It's a shame that it's all about the $$ but that's life eh. We haven't had Zoe vaccinated for several years now (she's 11) and she's still going strong. When I mentioned that to the vet the other day he said it was probably just luck... I think I'm going to be doing a lot more reading about this than I thought lol.
-
I thought that the vaccine was exactly the same, you just get it 3 yearly instead of annually??
-
Before Moose was desexed he used to 'finish' on our girldog Zoe all the time. I don't know what she hated more, being used as a special friend or the daily baths I had to give her.

It does Tess. How to find a vet that is more knowledgable in this regard is now the question. The vet I saw yesterday isn't Moose's usual vet (same practice though) so I think next year I'll make my appt with the other vet. Are there any links that I can read that talk about the dangers of over vaccinating?
-
Well you got the monster bit right. In regards to canine cough, unless I kennel my dogs I won't be giving it to them. It's not commonly fatal so I don't think it's necessary to vaccinate against it.
-
I have this problem too but generally they manage to get it on some random setting that you didn't even know the TV had, nor can you figure out how to turn it off!

Okay so I took Moose to get his booster today and asked the vet if he could just give a C3 which he was happy to do. When I asked him about titre testing his stance was that they don't accurately say whether the dog is adequately vaccinated or not, and until they do he wouldn't trust the results. He also said that as the drug company that produces the vaccine says it should be given yearly that is what he will continue to do. He would hate to advise a client that their dogs titre test said there was some level of immunity, not vaccinate and then have the dog die of parvo, especially since this is contrary to the drug manufacturer (ie. should be given every year). I guess he'd want to cover his bum too. All of this makes sense but now I'm more unsure then before. Does it really just come down to the owner to know what the titre results mean and use that to make their own decision re. vaccination? Why is trying to do the right thing so confusing?
-
Yes, thanks Erny, that helps a lot. In regards to titre testing, if levels are 0 or low do you automatically vaccinate? Or is it maybe just low due to lack of exposure in which case do you vaccinate anyway? Also, how often do you titre test? Every year? Sorry for all the questions. :D

Moose was vaccinated with a C4 & C2 at 12 weeks ( :D ) and a C4 + CCi at 16 weeks. He'll be getting his booster shot next Sunday (16 months old) and then I'll be titre testing after that. My question is, for his booster, is a C3 all he will need?? I've tried googling but just got more confused.
-
How does a dog get hepatitis? Is it just blood to blood contact? Moose will be getting his booster next Sunday (he'll be 16 months old) and then I'll be titre testing.
-
Ahhh if only they would think like that!! Wouldn't life be easier? They only thing I would give them is to perhaps patch up my side of the fence.
-
LOL! Is it just me or does Deagon look like maybe, just maybe, he enjoyed that? It looks like they are both grinning.
-
I wash mine about every 6 weeks or less. They get brushed regularly so if they aren't dirty or smelly I don't think bathing is necessary...

cbd, I only just found this thread!!!!!!!!! Gosh, you coulda told me about it!! You've got a good looking group there but seriously, Pablo is soooo cute! I love his markings. Here's my crew of two.

Happy Birthday gorgeous girl!

Frack! $4000?!!?! Crikey moses is its cast made out of gold? If Moose stuck his little chicken leg under a fence and got injured I wouldn't be blaming the neighbours, I'd be blaming myself. Did you actually see your dog with the other dogs foot in his mouth? How do you know he didn't stick his leg under, stand up and then injure it trying to pull it out at the new angle. This could explain the wounds too. I wouldn't contribute anything but maybe as a goodwill gesture get them a voucher for a pet shop (non-animal ) or get them some dog toys as a welcome to their new pup.

Slightly OT but... I don't worry about Moose jumping off my bed because it's pretty low but he does like to jump off the back of the couch (which is fairly high) to get to the door if someone comes home. How do I stop that??
