If you can't make any physical changes to the doors then I don't think there's much you can do. I don't know if I'd be comfortable having my dogs out on the balcony when I wasn't there anyway. What if you end up with a fence jumper?

Eh, double post.

Moose always farts for a few hours after he's had his temperature taken. He also keeps looking at his butt. Just checking I guess?? I probably would too. Farts are mostly diet related so I would do as others have suggested and change him over to plain foods for a few days to settle his stomach and then reintroduce other foods gradually. See what agrees with him and what doesn't.

All ready did - they smelt like the bone they had for dinner. Gross!! Moose's do actually have a slight corn chippy smell. It doesn't stink though. Very interesting!
-
Anyone else tempted to go give their dogs feet a good sniff? You can actually become a fan of "Sometimes my dog's feet smell like corn chips!!" on Facebook.

Okay I can kinda see it now. It sounds pretty strange. Is it like his legs aren't moving back and forth so sorta fixed at the shoulder?
-
Moose does this, he looks like a gazelle. I'm having trouble picturing a dog walking like a rocking horse. If he didn't move his legs then he'd just be bouncing everywhere?
-
He looks like a Long Nosed Chihuahua (if such a breed existed). He doesn't look bony to me, Moose has a similar build. Hope you're able to find his family soon.

Oohh that's creepy! I've always wondered what it was. I tried searching "ear flap" but got no luck. *googles 'cutaneous marginal pouch'*

This is probably the dumbest question ever asked but here goes... Does this bit on a dogs ear actually serve a purpose??? Google just laughed at me.

Do You Feed Your Dogs Morning, Night Or Both.
moosepup replied to ~Myschafis~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Can any dog get bloat or is it strictly a large breed problem? Dogs we've had in the past we used to put food out for and they would graze all day. If I tried that with Moose he'd be a keg. A small keg but still a keg. -
I haven't vaccinated my old girl for years, for a myriad of reasons. The vet suggested that she might just be lucky to not have caught anything but I kinda just at that. I would go with titre testing as others have suggested.

Do You Feed Your Dogs Morning, Night Or Both.
moosepup replied to ~Myschafis~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
I feed mine once a day at night (anytime between 5 - 7pm). They do get a few treats in the morning though. They pretty much just sleep all day so no real energy requirements. Plus I don't really want to come home to poops (they are inside during the day). They are most active in the evening (being mental as I type). -
is pretty awesome.

It is addictive isn't it? Your dogs are gorgeous Maverick. One little thing though... you may want to read the signature size guidelines before Troy removes your signature.

Same here. I refuse to give them a cent. Ditto. Here's why: My cockatiel Lucius is from pet's paradise. When I was in high school, my friend worked in the local PP and kept telling me about this bird. He had his wing clipped, was kept on one of those open perches and constantly had people poking him and trying to pat him. He became completely hand shy and one day while I was walking past PP when he jumped off the perch, trying to fly away from a child who was annoying him and hit the floor face first. He had a bloody nose and was obviously dazed so I picked him up and put him in a cage. My friend told me that he was about to be "let go" because they couldn't sell him. He was over a year old (he'd been in the store for a year) and lived in the PP store for nearly that entire time. The day my friend was supposed to let him go, she gave him to me. He's still hand shy and hates everyone but me. PP completely ruined him. If he acted the way he is with me with everyone else, he'd be the perfect pet. Fast forward 2 years and I got Remy. Same story as Lucius but he was moved from PP store to PP store (he ended up in the same PP store as Lucius) and my friend brought him to me when her manager told her to take him out to the carpark and let him go - he's now nearly 6 and he is so strange. He's kind of neurotic. I've never met a bird like him. Strange things frighten him, he randomly attacks the air around him when nothing has changed or moved, he will walk up to Lucius when he's sleeping and jump on him, he adores rope swings and perches but won't jump on a normal stick. 2 months before my 21st birthday, a kitten landed on my doorstep in a cat carrier with a birthday card attached. He was a suprise present for my birthday. I have a siberian husky who likes to try and eat cats. I had never wanted a cat and suddenly I had one. Mow was very sick, he had fleas, worms and was insanely thin. A week or so later we got a phone call from a vet - he was overdue for his vaccinations. I found out he was a lot older than he looked - the vet had given him his first injection at 6 weeks and he had only gained like 200grams in 6 weeks - at that age he should have been gaining 150grams a week. The person who bought him for me was able to walk into a store without my knowing, put my details on his microchip without knowing if I even wanted a cat or could care for one, and noone at the store bothered to check. The reason he was thin and sick was because the pet shop didn't give him the care he needed. I would never EVER give my money to a store like that and the sad thing is that the vast majority of pet stores that sell animals don't care about their welfare. It makes me sick to think of what my gorgeous boys went through and I could hurt the people who did that to them. Luckily both of those stores have shut down but one of them has been replaced by another store that sells a lot of designer mutts. Are you still close with this person?? That's outrageous!

Is anyone else finding it increasingly difficult to find an animal supply store that doesn't sell animals? I buy BARF patties from Better Pets & Gardens (only place I can find them) but they have just recently started selling birds/fish/rabbits etc. So far I'm struggling to find any that don't sell any animals at all without having to drive hours out of my way.

Also, I think if your dog hasn't been treated in the last 6 months (depending if a young puppy or not of course) then they should be tested for heartworm before starting treatment (we did this with our girl a couple of years ago). It's a simple test your vet can do.

Heartworm Injection Or Monthly Tabs?
moosepup replied to skip's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Big no no to the injection for me. Read too many bad things. I give my dogs Interceptor which does Heartworm and intestinal worms. I give it every 6 weeks rather than monthly though. I don't really like the ones with flea prevention in them either, will treat fleas when and if they get them (which is rarely if ever). The less chemicals the better I reckon. -
Besides the safety issue, I also prefer the collar-free look and I'm pretty sure the dogs prefer it from a comfort standpoint. Moose scratches at his if he has it on and we aren't out walking. I don't think I'd like wearing one 24/7. ETA - If my dogs were outdoor dogs I might be more inclined to leave their collars on but as they are mostly inside and when I let them out I check the gates so the chances of them going missing are very slim.
-
No collars on mine unless we're out and about. They are inside when we aren't home and our fences aren't jumpable so chances of them escaping are slim. ETA - someone did leave the gate open once but Zoe just walked around to the front door and barked to be let back in.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Puppy Eating Texters
moosepup replied to Budd's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep. Moose likes to chew things so everything we don't want chewed is kept off the floor. Not only for my sanity but also for his own safety. If my thongs get chewed to bits because I left them lying around then it's my own fault. You'd be surprised how quickly a Chihuahua can reduce a toy to just fluff and stuffing. -
I found it pretty nerve-wracking when I first brought Moose home but not really sure why. I guess because he is my very first own dog (all other dogs were family dogs we got when I was a kid) it just felt like so much responsibility. Plus he was so tiny! It took me about 2 weeks to relax. I don't really miss the puppy days! ;) Baby Moosedawg...

He kinda reminds me of Jabba the Hutt... He's so cute, I love roly poly puppies.
