Moose does it if he's in unfamiliar surroundings or unsure of himself. I think it's for reassurance.

Tell Me Why Cooked Bones Are Bad!
moosepup replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sigh. I know someone who says exactly the same thing! And he has GSDs too! His other argument is that in a bushfire, a bird/other animal would become 'cooked' and dogs in the wild would eat those and they're fine! Seriously? I can just imagine all the wild dogs out there just hangin' for a bushfire "maaaannnn, can't wait for someone to torch this place! I'd love me some roasted magpie right about now." -
Please give us a review when you've tried it stans mum, I'd be interested to know how it goes on. One of the other things I really like about Filta-Bac is how it dries so I don't end up with white smears on everything. Not so much an issue if you have an outside dog though.

Ruby - it works very well as a sunscreen. Moose has a big bald patch on his back (burn scar) so I put Filta-Bac on everyday in summer and he's never gotten burnt. Sounds like the other uses for Filta-Bac might be good for her nose. I bought mine online but I have seen it at BP&G. stans mum - yep, quite a light cream that dries to a sort of film really quickly. I use a tic tac size amount to cover about a slighter larger than 50c piece size area.

I use Filta-Bac, a little bit goes a long way and it stays on for quite awhile.
-
Moose does this as well, if you let it ring more than 5 times he goes off. Zoe joins in but I don't think she really knows what's going on. .

Hmmm lots of recommendations for Comfortis. I'm just not very comfortable with systemic insecticides that stay in the blood stream, it seems wrong to me (rightly or wrongly).

Amstaff First Time Breeders...many Questions!
moosepup replied to Amerigo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Calm down. I'm not a show judge so perhaps direct your ire elsewhere. -
Yeah I don't recall seeing it at BP&G or City Farmers but I'll check again. Otherwise I'll order online.

Okey dokes. Cheers for the help!

Thanks pers. And is it a saturation you're after or just a light spray? I'm going out to see if I can get some later.

Amstaff First Time Breeders...many Questions!
moosepup replied to Amerigo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for the advice! I show horses on the weekends - zero time for dog showing to be honest. It is not something I am highly interested in. BUT.. I do want to breed healthy, correct dogs with good temperaments. Getting the stud prefix etc, is the easy part - the hard part is the knowledge of breeding itself! So, how does one breed a bitch who doesnt bleed? How will you know how many days along she is in her cycle? Whilst I think that's lovely, how do you know she meets that criteria if she isn't tested in the show ring? There's so many unwanted dogs out there already (staffies in particular) I think it's sad to contribute to this just because you think your dog is nice. if you are genuinely interested in bettering your breed I'd start with showing before even considering breeding. -
If I use Permoxin after a bath do you wait until the dog is dry or just spray it on while they're damp?

I thought Moose had winter nose when his nose went brown when he was around 6 months old but it's never returned to black.

I hear ya, I just really hate the stench of topical treatments. I might switch them over to Spectrum from Interceptor and see if that does the trick.

We don't have any carpet, only wood and tiles. I've washed them (couldn't get Fido's so used one with similar ingredients) and all associated bedding & toys and will monitor it. If they have flea dirt (haven't seen any fleas at all, anywhere or any scratching) next weekend I'll treat them. I don't think a preventative is necessary when they've only had them twice in 2 years and neither time have I seen any fleas so it's not a huge infestation. Just my opinion of course, I choose to medicate as little as possible.

Thanks guys. Would a hot tumble dry suffice? There's not a lot of sun around today.

I'm sure there are 8000 topics similar to this but I can't find the answer I'm after in any of the threads. Took dogs for a check up today and the vet says they both have flea dirt on their rumps. Neither of them have been scratching and I can't actually see any fleas anywhere. Last time they had this the vet recommended Frontline Plus. When I used it I just about passed out from the toxic smell. Is there something more 'gentle' I can use? A wash preferably? Or something natural? Or a half dose each of the Frontline? Any tips or suggestions welcome. Thanks. ETA: I don't use preventatives as they hardly ever get fleas and I think it's unnecessary.

I'd feed maybe 15-20 minutes after you get back.

I changed to Big Dog when BP&G stopped stocking Dr B's and my dogs have never complained until the last 2 nights where Moose has turned his nose up at it. He'll eat it if I offer it to him on my hand but almost reluctantly. He's not sick, he'll happily eat treats and other food and is otherwise himself. Bad batch maybe? It does smell a little funky...

OSo! They've got him well trained! :D

Good point megan. I have donated as much as I can, vic needs it a lot more than I do.
-
All I know is that you need to make sure you got the head.
-
I get this with Moose too. Uh no, he's supposed to have a waist! Contrary to what the general population think about Chi's. I also get 'is that ALL you're feeding him??' if I'm dishing out dinner. He's just over 2kg and his stomach is probably the size of a brussel spout (if that), it doesn't take much to fill it.

Congrats Gayle, she's a real beauty. How lucky to have found you.
