No macadamias, they're highly toxic.
-
But they aren't being cooked or even coming close to being warm???? They're still freezing cold, they're just thawed enough to get a knife through.
-
Dd - the concern is that some of these baits remain in the system for several weeks so you actually need to give a course of Vit K, not just one dose. Moose had a Vit K injection once a day for 3 days until they got the Vit K tabs in and then I gave those twice a day for 3 weeks, had his blood tested and then we continued them for another 3 weeks to be on the safe side and tested him again. For me it wasn't worth the anxiety of not doing it.

Same. I also wouldn't like to pour boiling water over the plastic as heating some plastics can cause it to leach chemicals. I'm happy to just mw defrost the 'nude' patty the couple of times a month I forget. It's not like they have bone chunks that will harden. I wouldn't mw an RMB for example.

I wouldnt be putting it in the microwave with the bones in it I only microwave them on defrost setting, just enough so they're soft enough to break up, not so they're warm. And this is only if I forget to get one out the night before. :)

I buy Big Dog and haven't noticed a huge change. Skmetimes it's sloppier than usual but I think that depends on how I defrost it, ie. fridge defrost = not sloppy, microwave = sloppy.

Depending on what type of bait it is, it can remain in the system for up to 8 weeks I believe. Moose ate Rat Sak and was on a Vit K course for 6 or 8 weeks (I think 8) and he was okay. Thread here: http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/228966-moose-got-in-to-some-Ratsak/ I hope Sally is ok. :)

This isn't really true. They certainly won't cover for diseases that can be vaccinated against, but otherwise you should be fine to get coverage. I have claimed thousands for my entire, unvaccinated dog. Yep, what BD said. I've read quite a few PDS's and none of them have said desexing or vaccinating is a requirement, they just don't cover diseases that can be vaccinated against. I'm with Pet Secure and haven't had any issues with claims. The last one was when Moose ate RatSak and it was paid very promptly after I sent off the docs. :)

Their wee can be red too.

Moose has eaten macadamias twice and both times loss the use of his back legs. Very scary to come home too. We don't have them in the house anymore and I'm particularly anal about people leaving bags on the floor because inevitably one of them will have food in it. As others have said, it's just not worth the risk even if they have eaten a toxic food before and been fine. It only takes one bad reaction to kill your pet. Here's a decent list of what to avoid: http://www.petalia.com.au/templates/storytemplate_process.cfm?story_no=257

Grass Eating - Are They Sick?
moosepup replied to LOLAFOLATA's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep, mine do the dance too if they're feeling iffy. Grazing I don't worry sbout. Lol Tobster! -
I don't give preventatives for fleas or vaccinate but do use Interceptor evrery 6 weeks for worms and heartworm. Bit OT but do dogs sometimes just get an itchy butt? I catch Moose scooting maybe once or twice a month, when is it cause for concern? If its frequent? I check his anal glands so it's not that.

Divide the mix into 5? -
I feed it (in addition to barf) to my elderly SWF who eats chicken necks like a snake (swallows them whole!). I think if the teeth are clean to begin with it can work quite well.

So sorry. Happy Paws sells a product called Apperteaser which is basically treats crushed up into a powder that you can put on their food. My dogs go nutso for their 'sprinkles'.
-
Yes, we have this problem too, why is it necessary to leave one lying in the middle of the hallway??

AVT in Perth has a correspondence course: http://www.appvoc.com I started the course several years ago (didn't get very far, life got in the way) but I found their materials and support quite good. :)

Lumps Suddenly Appear On Dog

Not a grass allergy? Seems strange they're all on his underside. -
It's undigested calcium. :)
-
Sometimes I'm allowed in there too.

I wouldn't worry so much about his registered name if you aren't showing him, you'll most likely never refer to it. :) Ring the CC on Monday to see if your details can be corrected though. You should be able to if you're listed as the owner.

I would just make sure the poops aren't too dry. I think that means too much bone as they poop out the undigested calcium. Wasn't there a DOLer who's dog had such dry poops it was pretty much pooping dust?

What about this place? http://www.theveterinarypharmacy.com.au/prescription.php?id=2216 Oops just realised their website says "Unfortunately we are unable to sell prescription medicines until our pharmacy license is approved. We are expecting approval in January 2012. Apologies for the inconvenience." Maybe they'll be approved soon.

And then some!
