  1. I say tie ter but some people say tee ter. I think tie ter is the correct pronunciation. :)
  2. Same for me. I do puppy vacs and then the first adult booster and thats it for life. .......but I'm starting to doubt whether that first booster is even necessary. Me too. :) It really depends on the vet. You need to do your own research and be comfortable in your decision to not vaccinate and be armed with that knowledge when bringing it up with the vet. When they ask me now I just say I choose not to vaccinate and that's that. The vet I see now is very open minded. :) I had them both titre tested 2 weeks ago and got the results today (anything over 40 is considered protective and no vaccination is required): Zoe - 14 years old, not vaccinated in 10+ years - Parvo: 160, didn't test for the others. Moose - 4 years, not vaccinated since booster at 12 months - Parvo: 320, Distemper: 56, Hepatitis: 56 I would say D & H are low because we rarely encounter them in dogs these days, particularly in urban areas. The results just reaffirm my belief that annual vaccs are overkill and possibly unhealthy.
  3. Zoe stands *just* out of reach when she wants to be picked up and put on the lounge. If you beckon her over she'll unnecessarily walk the long way around the coffee table to come up on your other side, when you reach down to pick her up she flops on to her back. She's an old duck though and partially blind so you can't get too upset with her. :D Moose is rarely annoying (he's my angel :D ) but he does like spending 10 minutes finding the right pee spot before bed while I stand there waiting. And just cos I can... :D
  4. She's adorable WM!! Here's my cutie patootie old gal, she's 14 in April. :) Can you tell she's not a massive fan of the air con?
  5. I think in terms of the forum that if you're breeding unregistered dogs (particularly dogs that can't be registered) then you are a BYB. Happy to be corrected, I'm just a dog lover not a breeder. :D
  6. Sid looks like he had a rough night.
  7. But they cannot be registered here at all (they don't have their own registry like working dogs or MFTs) and the OP was already or had planned to breed them. The forum doesn't promote breeding of non registerable dogs.
  8. The AKC (US) breed standard says "Parti-colored dogs shall be disqualified. The coat of a parti-colored dog is not an even solid color at the skin but is of two or more colors."
  9. Tehe! Super cute. I love her little flag.
  10. You might think this is a footstool but it's actually a Chihuahua loft bed. :D
  11. Border Terrier. ;) I'm watching this thread with interest as hoping to add a 3rd this year, it's been a while since I did intros!
  12. My vet still recommends yearly vacc (as it seems most Aus vets do). We have the same ol' 'argument' every time I go in. I don't bother now I just say it's my choice not to vaccinate if they bring it up and we move on  Moose was last vacc'd at 15 months (now 4), Zoe is nearly 14 and hasn't been vacc'd for about 10 years. Neither has ever had a vaccinatable disease. But I digress! The advice you've been given sounds like the protocol we followed (I def wouldn't vacc only 2 weeks after the first). Gorgeous pup btw. :)
  13. Okay that's what I thought, thanks! :) Luckily she doesn't really matt, even when in full coat with minimal brushing, just the odd one around her ears. Maybe I'll just get the KM2 which comes with a #10 and get the #7 later if I need it. Now I just need her coat to grow back some more so I can practice. :D
  14. Okay would the Wahl KM2 be good? With an additional #7 blade? Clippers: http://www.ozgroomingworld.com.au/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=75 Blade: http://www.ozgroomingworld.com.au/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=36_59&product_id=146 In term of blades, is there somewhere that tells me what each # means/does?
  15. She went to a new groomer for the first time last month and came back looking a little 'choppy' so I probably couldn't so a worse job lol. Awesome, thank you. Sounds like Wahl are a good brand to start with and will be extra careful about them heating up. She's a bit of a flopper so it might be a challenge to get her to stand up for me for a period of time but I figure if she sits/lies I can just do one side and then shift her over to do the other. Dumb question but do you wash and dry first and then clip? Or wash and dry after? She's not a particularly dirty dog.
  16. Thank you for all the tips! Particularly about what size blade to use, I figure I'd start with one that doesn't cut too short in case I stuff it, there'll still be some hair to work with. I'll do some proper research over the weekend. :) Very good return Sandra, makes me feel a bit better about spending the money!
  17. Moose ALWAYS heads straight under the doona when we go to bed but because it's been quite hot lately he usually only stays under there for.a few minutes. When he emerges he gives me a filthy look (I don't control the weather dude!) and flops very dramatically onto the bed and kicks out his legs. I do enjoy his nightly spectacle. :D
  18. Very rarely do I run out of food (BARF) but on the very odd occasion that I do I just fast them for the night :)
  19. Very well behaved sd, you can do pretty much anything to her. That's a good point about the outlay, my next dog will most likely be a purebred Chi so not likely to be clipped. What do quality clippers cost?
  20. Lol that's kinda what I figured, she's very very placid so would be a good subject. Now to research!
  21. Thanks. :D She's 14 in a few months but still behaves like a pup! Is it vital to do a course do you think or is it possible to self teach?
  22. As Zoe advances in years I was thinking maybe I'd like to start clipping her myself. Am I crazy? Is it possible to teach myself? The TAFE does a course which ideally I'd do but the hours they're offering the class this term aren't suitable. I'm hoping they'll offer it on weekends next term but that's not until May/June. She doesn't get any fancy clip, just a general all over clip. I'm sure it's one of those things that's harder than it looks so happy to be given a reality check about teaching myself! Like this: Non clip Clip (ignore the scallywag to the right)
