  1. I thought that too but at 3 months he should still be pretty roly poly I would've thought. Seems a bit early for the gawky teenage phase lol. My Chihuahua pup gets 1/3 cup dry during the day and BARF at night so 1 cup for a GSD doesn't seem like enough.
  2. Maybe this should go in Rescue?
  3. Zoe and Moose are with PetSecure, Nacho is currently on his 6 weeks free with Petplan. I must admit I like the Petplan coverage better so I might move Moose over. Zoe is 14 so she'll need to stay with PetSecure.
  4. Dude he's way too cute!!! Nacho didn't eat his dinner the first night. Chuck out what he doesn't eat, particularly if its raw. I found too that he'll be more inclined to eat if I take the chill off his food by microwaving it for a few seconds (don't cook it, a few secs is all it needs). I give him 30-45 minutes to finish eating and then I take away what he doesn't have. In the morning he gets RC kibble which I leave for him to eat over the day but he eats most of it when I put the bowl down. In the evening he gets either BARF and/or chicken neck. He also gets a bit of tuckertime roll but I'll probably wean him off that once I use up what the breeder gave me.
  5. Nacho just always goes on his pads when he's in his pen. I have his crate, toys and food at one end and the pads at the other. I think it's instinctual not to poop where they eat. Keep putting him on his pad and praise him for both sniffing and toileting on them. Also make sure you have no reaction when he toilets in the wrong spot, just quietly clean it up, preferably without him seeing. It's only his first day too so he'd still be sussing everything out. :) I should add that I'm no expert, this is just what I'm doing!!
  6. Lol, there's definitely some trial and error required!! We did some 'sit' training this morning and whilst his focus was off  he was very good. He'd run off and then come bounding back to me and sit rather than jump all over me. Quick learner. :)
  7. Haha smash, welcome to puppyhood! He's adorable. :) Nacho has gone on his pee pad 9 out of 10 times. He gets put on it first thing in the morning and then I leave him in his pen when he's had breakfast cos he usually poops/pees right after. The pads I've got have a pheromone in them so whether that attracts him or he just prefers the surface to the tiles who knows. He doesn't usually get let out of the pen until he's toileted.
  8. The first thing I'd get is a new vet. :) I can't answer the HW q, I'm just going on my breeders advice and will start him on HW from 3 months. I don't give flea preventatives to my dogs, we don't have a flea problem here and my dogs have never had them. The less chems the better if i'ts an option.
  9. It does but it's active ingredient for heartworm isn't Ivermectin, it's milbemycin oxime. I use Interceptor too. :)
  10. Heartgard Plus does contain Ivermectin. I don't know much about BCs but it's my understanding that Collie breeds can be particularly sensitive to it and it can cause a toxic reaction. I'd use something else.
  11. Oh dear. He is just too much! Look at all that fluffy cuteness! He looks so huge compared to Nacho. ETA: Love his name, totally suits him. :)
  12. Dude you really should've gone to sleep cos you won't be sleeping tonight. Can't wait to see pics!
  13. Poor girl. Maybe just ring the vet first and see what they say? It sounds like she's just uncomfortable and maybe a little sore. If it were me I'd give her another day to see how she goes.
  14. I think it's soooooo rude Cassie hasn't taken a break from puppy snuggles to give us a pic. :D I took Nacho into the office today for a 'quick' visit and he was a complete hit. I ended up being there for 4 hours and productivity levels dropped considerably. :D
  15. Lol thanks guys, I did take a bit more notice when he was going this morning and he definitely gets a look of concentration on his face! That must be his tell. He'll be desexed at 6 months.
  16. I bought this toilet as recommended by another DOLer... http://www.luckypet.com.au/spotty-indoor-dog-toilet.html It should arrive next week so I'm just using pee pads in the meantime. I'm training him to use those as he'll be penned when I go back to work and I don't have the option of coming home during the day (I work an hour away). This toilet has a very low step so shouldn't be a problem. If we're outside playing and he wees then I praise him then as well but just focusing mainly on the pads/toilet at the moment. ETA: I plan on having Nacho sleep with me eventually (Moose does) but not until he's a bit older and toilet trained and not until they're actually friends. He loves his crate now though so he's been sleeping like an angel at night.
  17. Maybe it tried to eat his dinner...
  18. This is what Nacho thinks of his Snuggle Puppy. Sorry about the loud TV lol.
  19. Hehe thanks. :) I'm toilet training both on an indoor loo (he won't have free access to outside when I go back to work) and outside. It's hard to tell when he's peed outside though cos he doesn't squat or anything, just stands there! I have to pick him up and see if his willy is wet but then there's a delay between peeing and praise! Argh! Puppies!
  20. Not long for some of you! That's the hardest thing for me Dory, trying to manage the new dynamics. If only it were insta-love for everyone. I'm much happier this morning. Slept straight through from 10.30 til 7, got up for a pee and a poo (him not me!), a little cuddle time on the couch and then back to bed (me)/crate (him) for an hour, no protests. :D :D
  21. Is he a drooler normally? That would concern me but only because mine aren't droolers, even when they have an upset tummy. Hopefully he's just got a tummy bug.
  22. What vaccs will he have had when you pick him up? Just don't put him down, I only put Nacho on the consult table and they're wiped down with bleach between consults.
  23. Crikey, I just put in my application today, it's a $55 one off fee, the ranger comes out and looks at your garden and then sends you an approval letter. Rego is the same as for any other dog. ETA: Ours is one where you have to have the dog first. I get the impression that they rarely, if ever, say no.
  24. I love Min Pins, particularly chocolate & tans. I prefer a pen to a separate room, that way the pup is still part of the household and can get used to your coming and going. We have open plan kitchen / lounge / dining and his pen is in the lounge. We enter the house through the kitchen so he's always part of everything and can see what's going on. :) I can also see him so for example right now he's trying to pull the velcro tabs off his crate so at least I can see to tell him off.
