She doesn't sleep on our bed at night, she sleeps in her crate and she is fine, she will sleep through the night. It is the time when we are in our room, reading, watching tv, getting dressed (when nobody is in the living area), she will come into the room, hop onto the bed and lie there watching us. Or in the morning when I am getting ready for work, she will again hop onto our bed and zzzzzzzzzzzzz till she has to move to the laundry. i just want to teach her to only hop onto our bed when I give the 'OK' to do so. because if i am having a nap in the afternoon, there is no way she will stay in her crate quietly, somehow she is only willing to sleep in there (locked) when it is night time.

Hi All, I would like to get some tips on teaching my pup to only get up onto our bed on command. She could never do it last time but now being bigger and stronger, she can jump onto our bed pretty easily. I don't mind her sleeping on our bed but I would like her to only come up when she is invited because I don't want to get a shock having a 15kg creature jumping up on me when I am having a nap. She is reluctant to get out of the bed as well, unless there is treat or toy. So any tips on training her to get up/down on command will be greatly appreciated. Ta!

i don't let my dog sleep in our bed at night because she likes to get onto our pillows in the middle of the night and thats very annoying to me. So i trained her to sleep in her crate at night and only when i am watching tv in bed, she is allowed to come up and snuggle with me. As she will grow into approx 25-28kg, i really dont want her to sleep in my bed when she is fully grown.

What Do You Feed Your Dogs
LeeJane replied to encouraging_angels's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Advance for Large Breed - main diet will mix yogurt or sardine with dry food sometimes, mash pumpkin and carrot sometimes (just so she doesn't get bored with the biscuits) Raw chicken neck/frame 3 times a week Lamb shank, beef neck bones once in a while (like once a week) She loves sardine -
For treats, I give my dog raw bones and dehydrated chicken breats fillet (make them hard and chewy) Don't give your dog raw hide/animal skin chewy, my dog kept throwing up after eating them
-
Perth WA I get meaty bones (lamb and beef) from the butcher opposite Woolworth in Mirrabooka shopping centre. $2-3 for a huge bag.
-
My staffie is n advance and she is doing well, shiny coat and good weight. She seems to enjoy the dry food, tho occasionally she will get fussy and want chicken neck, mash vege, something more flavourful
-
I wish my pup will sleep like yours... mine is on the go all the time! She is 16 wks. Only when i ignore her long enough, she will retreat to her bed and snooze
-
I know I ignored her the other day and just kept doing my stuff. When she got quiet, I went to her to let her out, and there she tore her own bed....
-
Unfortunately, my pup is not afraid of water, she would actually open her mouth, wishing that the water will spray into her mouth...... Locking her up when we eat means she will howl and whine because she hates being locked up... I forgot to say, I am currently training her to stay in the crate, so far so good. She went into the crate on her own to sleep yesterday, so i think she will get it very soon.

Is It Too Late To Crate Train A 3 And 1 Year Old?
LeeJane replied to Rachel27's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hello, sorry to bump an old post. I am looking at training my 16wks old amStaff to sleep in a crate in the laundry at night. Now, she sleeps in our room in her bed every night. She is toilet trained, she will come to my side of the bed and whine when she needs to go to the toilet. And recently, she sleeps through the night without the need to go to toilet. However, my partner is a light sleeper, he wakes up whenever he hears the dog moves, as pup sometimes like to sleep on the carpet instead of her bed. My partner works at the mine so sleep is very important for him during his week off So we are thinking of making her to sleep on her own at night in the laundry. I have read some info about crate training and my trainer from the puppy class also send me the training instructions. Just want to know if it is OK to lock her in the crate the whole night (for at least 7 hours)? And when she whines, how do I know if she needs to go to toilet or simply wants to get out? Thanks -
Loose Lead Walking - What's The Best Way?
LeeJane replied to poochmad's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Don't drag her forward. Encourage her forwards, praise, act stupid. Do not pull. ooops.... ok will try to lure her forward then she will start moving again once i start running, then she will get excited and run with me. what a way to loose weight, i run around the block with her now, we do it everyday.... -
Ok, will try all the above from now on and see what works best, it is just so annoying to have her clinging on my arm. We never ever fed her off our plate, she only gets food in her bowl or training time.

My 15wks old Staffie can be very annoying when we try to have dinner at the dining table. She will stand along the dining, paws on the table and start sniffing our arms. Partner and I have to ignore her then she will finally give up. But she will be back within 5 minutes. I try to feed her dinner outside at the yard when we have dinner, but that usually only last 5 mins and she will be back in. I know i can always put her on lead or lock her up, but i prefer to find a way to train her so that we can have a peaceful dinner without her disturbing us... Any tips? Thanks

Just make sure your dog isn't overweight, my dog gets chicken frame 3 times a week, and necks for the other nights and she is fine. However, i make sure she gets enough exercise, play in park, jogging with me in the evening.

Loose Lead Walking - What's The Best Way?
LeeJane replied to poochmad's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have the opposite problem, I have to PULL my pup to walk. Whenever she hears noises/kids/dogs, she will stop and refuse to move forward. She will literally sit on the road and watch the distraction, with a tilt head, looks very confused, as if "what are they doing?" And i have to drag her forward.... -
My two GSd,s have there own beds in my room and that works well for us. My sister and Hubbie went and got a king size bed for themselves so their two Cavaliers and two cats can all fit, plus a set of steps made so the dogs can climb up! The reason I hate letting her sleeping on my bed is that she likes licking myface to wake me up! and they are not gentle licks, she licks me like I am her food bowl with chicken necks in there! I hate waking up to dog saliva on my face, though I love her to bits!
-
Mine has her own bed in my room. but sometimes she will get out of her bed and just sleep on the carpet. Doesn't really worry me wherever she sleep as long as she stays out of my bed.

I have some Super Coat and some Advanced biscuits, she is just not interested in them. I mix some yogurt to the biscuits then she would eat them, she gobbles every other thing like chicken neck, raw bone, chunkers but when it comes to biscuits, she really takes her time now, she will spend a good 15-20 minutes to finish her biscuits. She will have a few mouthfuls, walks off and play then go back to eat again. She doesn't play with her toys, she just wander around the house then goes back to her bowl to have a few mouthfuls. This goes one till she finishes the whole bowl of biscuits... This is starting to annoy me... argh............

Sorry to bump an old thread. I am currently experiencing a similar problem. My 14 wks old Staffy is getting very fussy with the dry food. I never had problem feeding her pure dry food, she is on Hill's diet now. In fact, I was always worried that she ate too fast! Now, she would only eat 1 or 2 mouthfuls and walks away. Same thing, she would eat if I hand feed her, but I don't want to do that because I dont want to make it a habit. Then I thought, maybe her teeth are sore because it is about time she gets her new teeth? So I mixed some roasted pumkin to her dry food and she finished everything! So, I came to a conclusion that she is just being fussy? I do give her chicken necks every evening, together with some dry food and maybe a spoonful of natural yogurt. But now, I am not sure if i should give her anything other than her dry food. I am now leaving her food for her for only 15-20 mins, if she doesn't eat them, i will throw them away in the bin right in front of her (is that bad??). I usually put her in the laundry (with baby's gate) when I have to go to work, and to make going to the laundry rewarding (she is now ok with being left alone in the laundry, wouldn't whine or destroy anything), i sprinkle a handful of her dry food on her bed, she would have a ball searching for every bit of the biscuit and clean them up. Again, that makes me think her teeth are not entirely sore? I really do not mind feeding her things other than dry food, because I will kill myself if i have to eat the same biscuits everyday for the next 10-15 years. But my partner and I travel pretty regularly, especially in the next 12 months, so we want to train the dog to live on dry food. In case we have to let our friends house sit, we do not have to trouble the friends to prepare food for the dog. She just finished puppy school, and the trainers told us to keep up with the training. I have to use treats to train her, but now being so fussy with her dry food, I am not sure if I should continue with the training. Though, I really wish I can keep up her training because she is getting better. Will really appreciate some advice now.

Ok, took my pup to the vet. The vet said she cannot be any healthier, she put on another 3 kgs since her last visit. And vet agreed to avoid any pig ears and hide as they are just dry skin aka fat. We talked about suitable raw bones, he said no backbones, because there are smaller parts in these bones that may choke the dog. He asked me to pig shanks and leg bones, bones that are bigger that the dog's head. So i got some beef neck from the butcher, and there's still lots of meat on the bones. Puppy is enjoying it on the lawn at the moment. In a nutshell, the vet said as long as the dog is not vomitting blood and putting on weight, then there's nothing to worry about. Phew...
-
Thanks for all the tips, i will go to the butcher later to see if he has any raw bones for my pup. So do you think I shall cancel teh vet for today and observe her for another 2 days?
-
It has been going for a week now, and she sleeps on the bed with me. She ONLY does it at 6:30am and vomit the same amount. She eats 1 cup of food 3 times a day plus her training treats lke chunkers and chicken liver. Usually i will just put her back into her basket when i hear the gagging sound and she wil vomit and then lick it all back in herself. She would't leave a drop for me to clean up..... She stopped chewig hide anymore, she is not interested in them anymore after she got her pig ear and big bones. I am still trying to find raw meaty bones, do you get them from the butcher???? I have booked her in to see the vet this afternoon, but i am not sure if it is necessary because the first few times, i made it to the vet when they were only small matters. So I try to do abit of research first before taking her to the vet.
-
I forgot to add, I did read some posts about dog vomitting. My pup vomits first thing she wakes up, and I read somewhere that it could be the acid is upsetting the stomach. So I guess I shall try giving her soem food before bed time?

My STaffie pup is 14 weeks old. For the past 1 week, she threw up aevery second day at 6:30am, she threw up at the same time every second morning. She didn't throw up much, maybe just one teaspoon of some white liquid and some bits there that I couldn't figure out because she licked them so quick that I didn't have a chance to touch them. She is currently eating a mixture of dry food (Hills Science), raw chicken neck (maybe 3-4 times a week @ dinner) and some steam carrot/sweet potato/pumpkin (only 2-3 times a week). She started chewing on pig ears on Monday, I am not sure if that's the reason she is vomitting because she chew of pork hide, big puppy bones (from City Farmers) and didn't have any problems. I am thinking of taking her to the vet in a couple of hours when the vet gets in, but I just thought I will ask here to see if that's common? This is my first puppy thank you
