  1. wtf? Why should being a foster make a difference? I didnt expect that she would make a difference for me, she just assumed that i wanted free advice.I was actually interested in calling her out and pay her to teach me how to train this dog. I never expect anyone to make a difference for me because i am a carer, i just want to make a difference for this dog. Anyway, I watched a few Kikopup youtube clips and learned something and so far it is working very well with the dog. As soon as he starts barking, i turn around walk 5 steps and stop. Then as soon as he shut up and sits next tome, I give him a treat and continue walking and repeat if he barks again. He has improved. He only barked twice on his last walk. thank you all for your input
  2. Body language when barking - he stand there, body slightly lunged forward and actually stare into a direction as ifhe is looking/listening to something. Tail up and wagging I did suspect that he has super sensitive hearing?? I tried playing a youtube clip that has dogs in it and a soon as he heard the slightest dog sound, he went around the house barking.
  3. Hi All, I dont have great experience in training dogs, but have taught my staffy to sit, stay, down, walk on halti, leave it. I have recently started fostering dogs because i simply love dogs. I guess I was lucky in a way that my first rescued dog was a very smart kelpie and didnt take me much effort to train her and she knew I was the pack leader. The 2nd rescued dog was a bit of a challenged because I wasnt home long enough to train him. His toilet training wasn't perfect, but could sit and learning the 'down' trick, then he was adopted. I am now on my 3rd rescued dog, a 1 year old heeler x staffy x dalmation, and he is a very loving and placid dog. But once I take him out for walk, he wouldnt stop barking! There is nothing in sight and he would still bark. I feel stressed waking him because I swear the whole neighbourhood heard him. I have tried the 'ignore' trick, i stop and ignore him when he barks. I will only resume walking when he stops, I havent had much success so far, he seems to be enjoying the time he gets to bark standing at the same spot. I tried the distracting him with treats, as soon as he starts barking, i use the treat to distract him and as soon as he looks at me, i reward him with the treats. Seems to be working ok, because that reduces his barking duration but I am afraid he thinks he gets treats whenever he barks. He then normally gets super obedient in the last 5 minute of the walk, no pulling, no barking... I just couldnt figure out why he barks, when there is absolutely nothing. He could stand barking at a building because his bark echos from the building. I tried ringing a few dog trainers but they are reluctant to help as soon as I mentioned I am a foster carer. So I am hoping someone can tell me the right way to train this dog to stop barking... oh, and he goes absolutely MAD when he sees other dogs wen I walk him.. thank you
  4. I learned to live with the hair, thats easier... LOL I do vacc every morning but cant be bothered at night. My dog likes to rub her face on the couc after eating a bone or rub on the carpet after her meal..
  5. Hi All, I broke up with my partner late last year and my partner has claimed the dog that we had together, an american staffy. As much as it hurts, I had to accept the fact that one of us is going to take the dog. I have moved on and now ready to get a dog myself. I have experienced with uppy and training because I trained my staffy and had her since she was 8 weeks old. I understand I cannot leave puppy at home for too long while I am at work. With my first puppy, I went home during lunch time to give her lunch and take her out for oitlet and played withher a little bit because my office was close to home. But I have moved away and I am not sure I can go home during lunch now to care ofr my puppy if i get one now. I just want to know has anyone done this while having to work full time? I think the worst case scenario is to negotiate with my boss to have 1 hour lunch instead of half an hour and go home during lunch to care forthe puppy. or I will just have to adopt one. I just want to make sure I can commit to the pup 100% before I get one. P.S. I am looking for a Golden Retriever. thank you
  6. no they are the raw ones.. so i guess i shall remove it from her then?
  7. Hi All, I bought some roo tails from the pet store to give it to my AmStaff (14 months old). She is chomping the bone as well, I am afraid she will get choked? Is it safe to let her have the whole tail? or shall i strip the meat out? But if i do that, then what's the fun for her? thanks
  8. Thank you everyone for your input. Thought i will post an update onhow my staffie is doing.. She is ok now, happy as ever, eating, chewing and pooing, still acting crazy.. The vet did 3 xrays and found nothing in her stomach, her stomach and intestine looked perfect so they didnt operate her and pinned it down to kennel cough. Dog stopped throwing up after we left her at the vets for xray... by evening, she was all normal, no cough, no spew.. total bill: $600 but thank GOD she is ok and we didnt have to cut her open.
  9. yes, her poo is normal, very moist and er.... just like a sausage
  10. Not yet, the last time i rang them, they are doing blood test. but the nurse said she is very happy in her cage, playing with the staff there.... Still coughing though
  11. she is pooping and eating and vomitting. the vet didnt want to operate her without doing an xray and blood test. We really do not mind spending the money to operate her but we are reluctant to let her go through an operation .. if she is lying there lifelessly, i will force the vet to operate her now! but she is as happy as ever just with the cough and vomiting.... she will cough cough then 'blueek....'....
  12. Was she vaccinated for KC? Yes, but the vet said the vacc is not guaranteed....
  13. Your dog should be under observation at a surgery, not at home. I'd not be mucking around with this. Adding more food to her system will simply put more pressure on the obstruction. she is at the vet under close observation, they are going to do a blood test and xray on her and will keep me posted
  14. There are going to do the exploratory if they cant see anything in the x ray. I am not f*cking around for sure, the vet said the dog doesnt seem to be in pain because she is jumping around and want to play. But the excitement does no good to her kennel cough
  15. Cheska still wants food and wants to play but she seem reluctant to drink, which i am very worried because she just threw up liquid! She still come to me every morning asking for her breakfast and finished up within seconds and ate her dinner as usual. Still wants to play tug and kept eyeing her kong. We did tell the first vet that she was vomiting, but she said it is normal with the coughing???
