Its so nice when puppy buyers stay in touch and you can follow the dogs progress. My best one for staying in touch was actually one I hadn't been sure about giving a pup as origanally she called thinking it was another breed entirly. I gave her a few contacts for the breed she thought she was calling about and answered some questions she asked about my breed. A few days later she called back to ask if she could purchase one of my pups after she had done some research on the breed, I quizzed her quiet abit and was impresssed at how much a part of her family her previous dog had been but was still abit unsure about her taking on a new breed that she wasn't overly familiar with. Well in the end I agreed on the condition that it was returned to me if she found that they couldn't cope or had any issues, because something in the back of my head kept saying that this was the right home. This lady keeps in regular touch with me, sends pictures of her lovely girl who is very much a member of the family and lives life to the full with them. When I go to country shows where she lives she brings her down to see us and we have a good chat as well as more picture taking. Of all the pups I have sold this one that was not planned has to be the most successful of all so sometimes it pays to bend ones rules and listen to the little voice inside ones head that says to go ahead.

Geez, wasn't it enough that people lost everything without making it even worse for them by killing their beloved pets, which aside from being family members could have been a source of comfort to them at such an aweful time. Good on your Dad for saving your dogs, I bet they helped ease some of the pain your family was feeling.

Camping on the grounds can be good, as you have a little less travelling and don't need to pack up your stuff each time . Only problem with camping in Albany is that the mozzies are gianormous and hungry and bite you through your clothes so it pays to take mozzie coils and aeroguard. Not sure if I'm going yet, depends on the finances, but usually have fun when we go.

I am contemplating it.... dunno how I would go with a little white dog, but i have searched and it appears they CAN do it.... Yep, I'll be doing it again this year with Jenna and I plan on taking a Papillon pup and getting him started too. Little dogs do just as well as big dogs at tracking I know there are a few Paps in Australia with Tracking titles including one who was apparently the first Track and Search dog titled. Track and Search is a reletively new level for those who are already tracking champions. At least if the little ones take of after the roos we wont get dragged, so maybe little dogs are better, not that Jenna has dragged me after roos yet, but some of the dogs have gone for a chase after breaking free of their owners.

While I understand that resources are limited and humans have to come first, I could not leave my animals behind. There would be no point in saving me if I left them behind and something happened to them as I would not be able to live with myself. It would be like someone saying to me well heres a liferaft to save yourself but you have to throw your kids overboard first. At the same time I would not expect one of my pets to take the place of a human if rescue options were limited, but I would expect rescuers to respect my wish to stay with my animals.

So sorry for your loss Fetchindawgs, must be especially hard after such a long time with such a special boy. I hope 2011 is the start of good things for so many people, the last 18 months have been to full of heartbreak with the loss of good friends and family members and so many friends feeling the effects of loss.

I have an old Papillon with some missing teeth but he handles most bones quiet well. My sister also gives her Shelties chicken necks, wings and carcases without any issues as do I with the Pap. Avoid large weightbearing bones as these are the ones that often break teeth, you want the kind the dog can crush with its teeth. Don't worry if the dog later throws up small splinters of bone, this is not unusual for a dog who's system hasn't yet got use to dealing with bones and they are not in any danger. Always supervise when giving bones and if you have a dog who would rather inhale the bone instead of chewing it, hold the other end to get the dog to slow down and encourage the chewing action.

You could try a sawdust barrier around the perimeter of your vegie patch, apparently they don't like to cross sawdust.

Many years ago my friend had a deaf Dalmation who competed well in Obedience with the use of hand signals. Dogs are very adaptable, I have another friend who has a young dog who is totally blind and has been since birth and he copes very well in a multi dog household where he is the special love of his human mum. You can probabaly find some books on the internet to help you deal with things like training and living with a deaf dog. Good luck with her, I'm sure she won't disapoint you.

SNAKE!!! I would certainly find that more stressful that my fence coming down, glad your dogs were ok. Was kinda glad I was dressed when I let the dogs out this morning, when I realised the side fence was gone I could run out and grab the dogs before they disappeared. I was even more glad when I saw that although one of my averies had blown over(was empty) the one containing my cockie was still standing. He is now residing in a dog crate in the spare bathroom for the moment. Jo being safe made the fence a shrug of the shoulders and a minor inconvenience although not a good time to be paying an excess. Hope everyone that experience damage is insured and it doesn't cause them too much hassle and that all pets are safe.

Never really experienced it in WA in 6 years of showing, someone might put a tarp or carpet down to save a spot next to them for a friend so that they can sit together but no one maintains dibs on any given spot show after show thankfully.

Plus, they have heaps of doggie stalls with all sorts of dog stuff from what I've been told, so if I ever get there I'm taking an empty suitcase. Westminster is the big dog show in America but I don't know what time of year.

Merry Christmas Troy and the rest of the DOL team and also to all of the DOL members and visitors. Please take care on the roads everyone so that we can continue to enjoy your company on DOL and your furkids can continue to love you unconditionally.

The joys of being poor but the time clock keeps ticking away and its this year or never. It pesky neighbours hadn't been a pain I would have kept a Brookie baby, there were two girls I particularly fancied in that litter. He does make lovely babies, even if Jenna can be a difficult little B to mate.

Would love to and have discussed with a few friends about making 2012 the plan for Crufts but I think it will take a Lotto win for me to get there and I don't know that I could survive that long without my Jenna. I have Jenna OCD.

Abbey puppies should arrive in August If you get one of hers I won't be astempted to get one Probabaly befor then as she will be in heat in April, same as Jen. What's wrong with a Jenna baby?????? Thats if I can keep the money in the bank long enough to send her away for breeding and I can be parted from her for it to happen. Mmmmm, might never happen but I so want a Jenna baby before she is too old.

Once Cider gets 44 more points she will be out of there - which may make it a wee bit easier. Looks like I will have to get in early otherwise you will be waaaayyyyy to busy. I have started agility with Cider but she has no power steering and no cruise control - do you think Santa might bring me some? Hmm that reminds me can you please email me the shows Cider and Strauss are in for Jan? So I can let you know which ones I can make and which I have to work. I have given Toby since last Thursday off training (so not quite a week) but he seems to remember his obedience stuff! Doing some very nice fronts, left and right finises!!! He will even recall from about 20m to front enthusicstically (in my backyard ;) ). But I don't think we are ever going to see the inside of a ring again (except if Rally comes in) which is a dissapointment because he is coming along quite well. However he be able to do a CDX round in my backyard eventually! Can the judges accept video entries? Video entries work for me, we would have far more passes if it all could be done that way. Gee you certainly do have a full workload comming up next year Rallyvalley, but hope you can still find time to catch up with us all. Good on you though for taking on the challenge. If you can't get to all the shows and Plotomy wants a handler I'm happy to give it a go when you can't make it, if it doesn't clash with Paps in group 1. I'm guessing they are stacked the same as Aussies so shouldn't be too hard but no help when it comes to Agility I'm afraid. I've gotten most of Jenna's points(several 100) and titled a Shiba so my conformation handling skills are probabaly better than my other dog ring skills.

Geez, wish I had your problem. Only at work for 5 hours but I race around non stop during that time, have had to take a step back and try to pace myself as I found that I was using up too much energy and when I finished my shift my limbs were going to jelly and my legs were giving way under me, plus having chest pains again (not my heart, stress related as I ended up in hospital a few years ago at this time of year for the same reason). Find it hard to slow down though with the workload and trying to keep everyone happy. Unfortuanatly requests for extra staffing falls on deaf ears even when my customers go in to bat for me. So looking forward to the four day break before the next onslaught. On the upside my day goes in the blink of an eye and today after a particulatly stressful day Mum and Dad took J and I out for a lovely lunch at Sizzlers (although I was looking forward to my bed) .

My Dog Is Not Agressive Some Advice Please
ozjen replied to A and G's topic in General Dog Discussion
Personally I get very upset with anyone who lets their dog rush up to mine at an off lead park and did loose it with someone who continuously let her two German Sheperds rush my dogs numerous times at a park after me placing mine on lead and moving away to the other side of the park each time. Doesn't matter how nice a temperment you think your dog has, if it rushes another dog then you don't know how that dog will react and if that dog reacts negatively your dog may then attack. Is it really worth the risk to either dog. An offlead area needs owners to be more responsiable with how their dog responds to other dogs it is not an area where you just let your dog loose to do whatever it likes, owners are still mean't to maintain control at all times and this includes respecting others rights to not have their dogs rushed or bothered by other dogs. If you wish your dog to play with others then I would suggest that you put on the dogs leash to begin with and ask the other owner if you can introduce the dogs (ONLEAD TO START WITH). Even normally friendly dogs can be nervous of dogs that rush them especially if they are bigger or there is more than one. It only takes seconds for things to get out of hand sometimes with devestating results so please be a responsiable owner and think about others when you have your dog at an of lead area that way we can all enjoy giving our dogs a bit of freedom. As a footnote, the lady with the two German Shepherds insisted that they were friendly too so much so that she was miles away from them and not in control, I was there to see that her dogs hackles where indeed up and that their body language was very dominant. My dog who I had put on lead as they approached each time was very intimidaited by them and would have reacted if I had not seen their approach and prepared her. She saw it as me having a go at the breed but it had nothing to do with the breed although two dogs twice the size of my own dogs rushing us was intimidaiting even for me as I new I could not control the situation if they did attack. -
I got a bargain on a brand new chest freezer (quite large, too), $50 from Kmart a year or so ago. Especially for the dogs! It's now just sitting in my parent's shed, need to get it to my house somehow! What size is it Rubystar? Perhaps we could pick it up in my van if it would fit, if you can post the measurments I can check to see and if it would work we can arrange something.

Possiably adding a little Apple Cider Vinegar to the dogs water, changes the PH balance in the water with the added benefit of trace minerals, extra shine on the coat and flea control. Won't change the colour of hair already discoloured but should help reduce adding to it, possiably Sards soap on the affected area might help reduce what is already there. Also look at changing the way dog's water is provided so they aren't getting so wet when they take a drink, ie perhaps a larger version of a rabbits water bottle. Also avoid feeding anything with Beet juice in the ingredience.

My Dogs Needs A Shaded Cubby, Not A Kennel... Ideas?
ozjen replied to UltimatePup's topic in General Dog Discussion
Saw recently on TV where a couple had made a nice shady bed for their dog using a wooden (buildup kit) kids sandbox with shadecover cover and a nice soft mat. Have seen the same sandbox with shadecover advertised recently here(possiably Toys R Us). They were using it in a yard where there was no other shade for the dog and the dog spent quiet a bit of time outside, can't remember the breed might have even been a Lab, certainly a breed in that size range. Dogs always know the coolest spots to be on a hot day, bet if you checked the temerature differences you would want to join your pup on a hot day. -
