We don't need them while training - our normal leads are fine but later on we can buy the leads and harnesses from them yes. I have a couple of lunge leads, I am going to ask if these can be used instead of buying yet another lead I was told that the lunge lead I had was fine but that I might be better with a cotton one as well as some gloves to save my hands, have gone out to the horse shop and got both and will use the car harness which they said was OK. Have also hopefully got my flags arranged (have to double check the site to make sure they are alright). I'll bring the other long lead as well so someone else can use that tomorrow if need be. Don't forget to bring water for your dogs as they get very dry tracking and you may have to carry it with you, not sure. Excited about the tracking but not the early start, but I guess I'll get use to it. Will organise it all tonight so that I can stay in bed an extra few minutes. Thanks Valley CBR, for my signature hopefully it will be at the bottom of this post if I've done it right. Ozjen I cant see your sig..... see you tomorrow, I am only buying a harness next week, this payday i had too much to pay! Edited to say that I can see it now! Yep, I managed to do something wrong, I think I've fixed it now. I can see it at this end now, Valley CBR you did a great job.

Thankyou, will pickout some and send them to you. I won't get to all the tracking stuff either with the state and nationals on, agility and Jenna comming into heat in June and then possiably puppies but I figured I might as well make a start. When I discussed it with the ladies at the workshop about not being able to come every week they didn't think it would be a problem. At least we should get an idea of wether it suits us. If you come and get the basics you could be training at home on the of weeks.

But I am slack Mirawee, I could never handle all the early starts you get and I definaitly couldn't handle doing 9 runs in an Agility comp. "I'ma gettin' to old to keep up with you yung wippersnappers" Well at least in body, the mind is still young if you don't take into account the poor memory.

Well stated DNB, I think the fight should be for all dogs, papered or unpapered, pedigree or mongrel, BSL has no place in our laws, far better to have owner specific legislation and get rid of some of the useless sods who keep animals when they shouldn't. Dangerous dogs regardless of breed or registration are a product of our making, through poor breeding practices, poor training and socialization or poor ownership (not everyone should own one) and all of these things show up in all breeds and crossbreeds. It should be more about educating owners of DOGS in general, while most people on this forum endeavour to educate themselves further about their pets, way to many average pet owner do not and see nothing wrong in their dog showing aggression to passing dogs in fact some encourage it(think its Macho) see nothing wrong in their dog leading a life of garden ornament or worse still teethered 24/7,let them run loose to harass and kill stock, don't think to keep dogs and children apart when unsupervised and the list goes on. Many aren't bad people just clueless and unaware till it is too late that they are producing future problems. Unfortunately it is the dogs that pay the price. On the so called educated side there are still way too many unstable dogs being bred from simply because they have great conformation or the right bloodlines. I cringe inwardly everytime a dog who shows poor temperment (really poor like cringing from the judge bigtime or unprevoked hostility to other dogs) and then still gets put up by judges and goes on to be bred from. -
Thanks for the heads up Mason's mom, haven't looked at how to get there yet but will keep that in mind.

Yes you can pimp out my sig skills ST I would love to make you one with Ari, Char and James (I actually have pics of all 3) all I need is Spartan... Ooowww! could you make me one too valleyCBR, of my fur and feather kids if I sent you some pics and also could you tell me how to attach it as I am a computer dunce. I am so jealous of all the lovely ones on here.

Yep, so early to bed :D early to rise, we have to be at Gnangara by 8am, the getting out of bed is the hardest part for me but looking forward to the tracking.

Congatulations, that would be a great buzz to get those final points for the Grand.

Hey bedazzledx2, Jenna isn't feral she's just full of the joy of life and wants everyone to know it. I'm going to assume it's Jenna your talking about as you couldn't possiably class that clever boy Brookie as feral.

Sometimes it can be an unfamiliar smell that sets them off. Not saying he smells just that he may be a smoker in a non smoking household or that he eats a particular food that is picked up in his scent that the dogs aren't comfortable with. Might be as you say that because he tries to intimidate them that they are unsure of him and are reacting accordingly. Why not encourage a truse by getting him to give them a special treat each time he visits so that they look forward to his visit.

You must be very fit!! Yep, Mirrawee did lots of running including running two rings without a break inbetween, don't know how she does it and remembers all those different courses. Mirrawee did you check out the pictures of you dogs on Tim's site, some especially nice ones of Varda.

Don't think they are allowed to but why not phone the contact for the show and explain and see what they say.

I'd be in that! When we were in NZ we went to a wildlife park that also had a flying fox in the kids playground area, I so wanted to have a go. Later I split up with the others so that I could go back and get a couple of shots of the Tiger and they started placing bets on wether I was really going back to have a go on the flying fox. I did contenplate it as there wasn't anyone on it at the time, but envisioned getting myself stuck up there as my back doesn't always allow me to do the things I want to do. Might have been too embarressing having to call for assistance. Not that any one in my family could laugh at me for trying, my Dad who's 81 this year still likes to hop on the escalator handrail to ride down when he can get away with it and I'm sure he was tempted by the flying fox too. So is it any wonder these things temp me, it's in my genes.

Bet we could liven him up with a BBQ!! As long as he's not offered Cherrio's, think he was quiet dissapointed with those.

Jenna has taken to telling me when she wants fed. She starts bouncing around to get my attention then goes to the wall at the kitchen which is her spot when I'm in there and then when I say "well show me what you want" she runs across to the pet freezer touches it with her nose and drops with her nose glued to the door. When it comes to their water dishes being empty, Gizmo has a little single bark he gives then he waits abit and gives another single bark until I come and fill his dish. Jenna knocks her dish around then comes and looks at me and then goes and knocks it some more till I respond.

OH NO! Hope your feeling better soon. Even if you miss the workshop I think you could still join the tracking when it starts if your up to it by then. I'm going tomorrow! Still don't know how I'll fit in the tracking training and like others I do LOVE my bed on the weekend but it is only for 6 months a year so perhaps I can handle it if I can work it around the other doggie stuff.

After not being able to get fuel due to the service stations having no power and my cars low fuel warning light flashing I was begining to wonder if I'd be walking to work today. Drove in the hope of reaching the service station in time and finding it open for business chanting away to myself "I think I can, I think I can." and as I pulled into the open servo let out a pleased cheer of I CAN! With the amount of fuel it took I think I probabaly only had a couple of cups of fuel left in the tank if I was lucky and I drive a big van. Can't say I was really up to walking so was really pleased it held out. Luckily the power at home was only out for about 11 hours and the foodstuffs were fine as I kept it all closed up. Feel so sorry for those with damage as they said on the news tonight that some of the damage might not be fixed for more than a year. In all honesty I think that is ridiculous, insurance companies and the government should be looking at getting people in from interstate if necessary to assist those affected as soon as possiable, I'm sure they have suffered enough stress already.

That's wonderful to know Steve. This conversation came up recently in my family after a couple of friends passed away suddenly (dog community) and I have just heard of another passing that friends knew. All of these people were under 50 so it's not just the older crowd who should set plans in place for their pets to ensure their wellbeing. Comming from a family who all have their own pets and friends who are all animal people with their own as well I do worry what would happen to my furkids if something happened to me. It would be great to know if there are options for mixed aged pets in these situations too, preferably to proven loving homes rather than kennel situation. Possiably monitered by an experienced person to ensure they settle properly into the new enviroment. Not that I have any plans to leave this life!!!

Hey it was like that out our way too Rubystar, if I knew how to resize I would post the pics, you'll just have to check out my facebook site to see them Luckily my son who lives in Nedlands phoned me to warn me so had time to call a couple of family members, warn a couple of neighbours and make sure all the animals were saftly in and had their ID on just it case. Even poor Jojo the cocky got grabbed out of his avairy and chucked in a dog crate so that he could be safely inside with the rest of us. With the power going out, a phone that relyed on electricity and no mobile charged or with credit (keep his number in the mobile too) I was cut off from the family and abit worried about my son that had called as we had been cut of just as he said he had hailstones in his kitchen as well as water damage so I was imagining all sorts of senareos. Thankfully nothing to worry about there and my sister got her son to use his FIL's 4 WD to come check I was ok as that was the only way to reach me as there was so much flooding even though we are only three KM apart. Glad that no one lost their lives, I felt so sorry watching some person on a moterbike get pelted with hailstones on the TV, would have thought someone would have told them to ditch the bike and get in their car for abit of safety. I guess we are all too scared of being mugged to worry about our fellow human beings. I think in this case I would take the risk.

Congratulations to all who had a dog in the Contest of Winners, all of the dogs were fantastic and it must have been hard for the judges to pick one out of so many outstanding examples. While not a fan of AmStaff's(just not a breed for me) the winner was an outstanding dog who really strutted his stuff well and it was a well deserved win.

I'd be interested in both a trialling camping weekend and a DOLer one another time too I am however not ready to do Geraldton at the next one. Bit strapped for cash and Ruby isn't reliable enough yet to risk trialling at such a far away place! I want to get through Bunbury first and see how she goes ;) Doesn't Geraldton have a few trials throughout the year? Maybe one later in the year I'd be interested in doing! As for a DOLer camping thing, I'm up for that anytime! But its times like these I wish there was 2 of me, as I won't be able to enjoy a camping holiday as much with 2 dogs per 1 me. As much as I wanna camp with both of them, I think this will just be a trip for me and my special yellow girl :D Yep they usually have another big weekend towards the end of September, I'm hoping to be up to my ears in puppies so won't make that one. Know what you mean about the finances, if utilities keep going up I'll be operating by candlelight. With regard to the DOL camp, perhaps there might be spare people willing to give a hand with an extra Lab.
-
Yep, I got picked up one time on the way to Geraldton just outside of Dongara for speeding, (just a little). I think I missed getting a ticket because Jenna was making such a hulabaloo at them that they wanted to escape the noise as quickly as possiable. She can be quiet intimidaiting when she wants to be as long as no one calls her bluff.
-
Okay for those DOLers interested in camping with their dogs I have come across this possiable option. http://www.murray.wa.gov.au/community/dwel...ampinglanepoole Keep in mind though dogs MUST be kept on leash at ALL times but the upside is that there are plenty of walk trails and scenic waterways. Don't know how much it has changed since I was last there many years ago but don't expect hot showers and flushing loos. I do have some extra dog crates that could be utilised for doggie quiet times to give owners a break from the other end of the lead or loo breaks but as it is a break WITH our dogs I am sure we will all end up doing lots of walking if we do it.

Who said anything about them needing to be any good? I'll never get there at that rate Maybe next year I will entertain the idea of a camping weekend with the dogs in Geraldton. Keep your calendar open Amy and keep the training up, you're coming with The Geraldton show/trails can be alot of fun so it is definaitly worth considering and camping is availablle on the grounds for a few dollars so makes for a very relaxed weekend with like minded people. I use to go all the time, but petrol costs are a big killer these days as I usually use about two tanks of fuel with the van. One of Jenna's babies (well not still a baby) lives up there so it use to be good to catch up with her and her owners while I was there especially as she was one of the 2 that I was tossing up about keeping. So perhaps I will add your name to the list too, then! I definitely think it would be a lot of fun. I'd go this year if we could organise a group, but I think it's probably too short notice. And no worries Candice, if it happens you'll be sure to know! I don't own a tent either, nor a sleeping bag Oh, now your tempting me, I keep looking at my canine news and saying I can't afford to go and that it will clash with tracking. I do have a big three room tent, spare sleeping bags, air mattresses and could possiably get hold of another big tent or a couple of little ones(possiably) I think camping may only be available to competitors though as its on the competition grounds. Entries close next Monday, how many are interested? Perhaps we could car pool. Mmm camping/competing V tracking, I need more and longer weekends. If enough people are interested in camping with their dogs we could maybe arrange a DOLers camp somewhere in the not too distant future if we could find somewhere nice that we could have all the dogs at.
