What Don't Most People Know About Your Breed?
ozjen replied to RallyValley's topic in General Dog Discussion
My friends have Rotti's and you couldn't ask for sweeter dogs in fact the big boy would climb into your lap given the chance. I think BYBers have alot to do with this misconception, as well as some unsuitable owners and alot of bad press. -
What Don't Most People Know About Your Breed?

.......and that Aussies are the BEST!!! .......and that you can get all tail lengths in the one litter........and that Aussies are the BEST! ........and that they act like cockroaches when caught on the bed uninvited. -
How do I get a copy?? Become a member of Canine. You can become an Assoiciate member and if you are going to compete in Tracking you will need to become a member anyway, that way you can also enter some obedience trials too.

Hey, if I WIN lotto I don't have a problem with that.

I think I do. I never realised how many wonderful spitz's there were around. I don't know how I missed them. Can Aussies and Coolies cope if something comes up and they can only get a little exercise for the day? The same question for smaller retrievers. The OH got home late and then had to go to his course so he didn't have time to look at all the breeds for me last night. He's going to look at work this morning though. If you're going to get dogs of two different breeds a couple of years apart is it considered better to get the bigger one first or second? My Aussie is high energy when we are out and about but is quiet happy to lay next to me as I am not high energy. I find the main thing is exercising her brain although she does do agility, obedience, trains for doggie dancing and has just started tracking. Most of the time she is just happy to be along side me and is very much an indoor dog although we do like to have a wrestle and games together indoors as well as out. Each dog is an individual though so the breeder would be able to give you more idea on a pups temperment. Of the Aussies I know I would put mine in the high energy catagory but she doesn't have an issue if she's not walked everyday and I don't know that my neices one gets walked very often although the 2yr old plays with him heaps. My sister also has two who don't mind not walking each day but she is involved in dog sports with them too. Most Aussies in kennels don't get alot of exercise and yet they all seem pretty laid back at the dog shows and are not bouncing of the walls. Aussies are very much velcro dogs though so like to be part of the family rather than a yard dog. Check out OZPAWFX on Youtube if you want to see the good and bad side of my Aussie. I don't know alot about Coolies but they are beautiful and smart. ETA: Lappies are sweet and beautiful my friends have Lappies and they are all very friendly dogs and like big teddy bears to cuddle. They seem very laid back. -
I heard a rumor that Ptolomy may be doing a round 2. Not sure how soon it is. If not we can always do a WA only order just because it will be easier to control payments and distribute them. Hey let me know if you guys decide to put an order in I have a huge wish list. Not that I will be getting it all, but certainly wouldn't mind getting a couple of things of my list, mind you if I win lotto I'll get it ALL!

Oh gosh so sorry for your loss! I haven't heard of them, perhaps I need to do my research. Thanks for the reminder. Your pup was beautiful thanks ruby star. its worth looking up, they are only mainly in WA during summer. they are so toxic that vets have had dogs of all ages dying from a simple sniff, lick or digestion. they smell very attractive to dogs. in my case he ate it and at the time it must have been very old because it just looked like seaweed. not knowing what it was at the time it wasnt untill 30mins later his eyes were trembling profusly and convusing. it have taken over his nervous system and wasnt able to function with the amount of shaking. despite all the vets efforts of hours trying to beat it he passed away. thats when the vets told us he never really stood a chance and even if he didnt eat it he most likely wouldnt have made it. Oh Ruski18 I'm so sorry, he was a beautiful pup, sending you hugs at this sad time. I too had no idea about these sea slug things, thankyou for the warning. If you don't mind me asking what beach were you on? We have always opted for the beach in Summer because we figured it was safer, now might have to look at our options. RIP little one, enjoy playing at Rainbow bridge until you are reunited with your family again.

Have you considered an Australian Shepherd, a bitch is usually only about knee high and they tick all your boxes. The Papillon I think would be abit small for children so young and I think you might strike some resistance from breeders. The main thing with the Australian Shepherd is that they do require mental stimuation but if you are interested in obedience and agility then you should be fine. They are very smart and loving and I know of a number living happily with young children including my niece's one who shares the home with her toddler and has grown up with her. Also my own one adjusted very well to suddenly having two toddlers and a 6 and 8 yr old live with us for a number of months after only having limited contact previously to children. All contact was closely supervised for the safety of all as it should be with any breed. I've also had Aussie pups go to homes with very young children and it has been very successful, partially because I have ensured that the parents are responsiable when mixing dogs and children. If you are looking for something smaller you can't go far wrong if you go for a Cavalier, these little dogs make excellent family pets even for beginners and usually have sweet temperments. -
Not a Nationals one! Not yet anyway.

OzJen, I will book tomorrow morning to give anyone else a chance if they wanna come, though I think we're probably at our peak now If we can't get in, fallback plan is Sizzlers (Riverton?) @ 7pm. Will you book under rubystar? Ok we'll all check back on here to make sure we know where to be.
-
YEP! Hope you ordered the right size though, I think I might squeeze into a medium but definaitly not a small.
-
Xena98 do any of you want to join us tomorrow night? we are only half crazy.
-
Okay then Cannington Greyhounds at 7pm tomorrow for 6 people, any others want to put in a last minute booking now that we are sure of the venue. Rubystar do you want to put up your link again just in case someone else is interested in comming along. Rubystar are you going to make the booking? ValleyCBR about the same distance from Canine.
-
I was about to ask where that was and then I realised you mean't the greyhounds.
-
I could always join you to stir things up a bit! I'm not that far from Cannington nor Riverton Good one, you'll be more than welcome, now all we need is a DEFINAITE venue people!
-
Ah well, was kinda a late idea, I did try to drum up a few more doggie people Still 5 can have fun too and the main thing is for us all to have a bit of distraction from the Nationals. Whaaaatt! I thought you didn't want to do Sizzlers. OK guys this will only work if we can make a definaite decision on the venue so that we are all at the same place Cast your votes ASAP Greyhounds, Sizzlers or ??? Sizzler we don't have to book for but we still all need to know where we are to turn up and if its greyhounds then we better arrange a booking.

She'll be right, Amypie. Thanks though.

I'm sorry, are you West Australian? No? Then your scribing opinion isn't valid here I agree with Ness I have actually only ever scribed when helping out I think And then you had the days when you got to scribe and backup time! I am not sure about going out to dinner tomorrow. I could leave work early but just don't know if I have enough time to get everything ready for Thursday if I go out to training tonight then have to rush out tomorrow as well Aaaww, we'll miss you. Don't forget to bring your cabana to training if you want me to set it up on Wednesday. Still not sure how I'll go handling all the cabanas at the moment but I'm sure if I look tragic enough someone will help me. Might even see if my son is working tomorrow and if not try to con him into helping me.

That's okay RosieFT all you have to do is mark the boxes as the judge directs, each judge will let you know before hand what signals they will use and what they want you to put down, you don't need to know anything about agility as long as you can accuarately fill in the info as the judge directs. Your timer will be watching for the signals too so your not likely to miss anything. I usually jot down what the signals mean so I don't forget but thats because I have a seniors memory there are really only a couple of signals.

I did and now I am missing a finger! You are too!!!! Awesome shots Rach and Masons mom. Had to laugh at some of the shots with the ears in the air and also the look on Mason's face when playing with Sooty.

Sounds good to me!! Sounds good to me too, so anyone interested in going we will need definaite numbers so that we can book a table. Mirrawee I know you won't know till Tuesday but don't think one person will be an issue if we book for you and you can't make it. Rubystar do you know what time they start serving or wether we have to pay gate entry on top of the meal? Might check with some other doggie friends and see if they want to join us. I'm not sure, I don't believe you have to pay a gate entry fee but I will see if I can find out. Opens 6pm til 11pm. We can get there around 7pm like you originally said I think? As OzJen said, we need definite numbers because we have to book at this place. Can you please advise by Tuesday arvo around 3pm if you intend on coming so that I or OzJen can ring up and book? Just add your name to the list: 1. OzJen 2. RubyStar 3. Amypie 4. Mirawee (maybe?) 5. J my sister

Okay guys, have been trying to work out a place that might suit all tastes at a reasonable price and J and I thought that Sizzlers might fit the bill, there is one in Kelmscott or Riverton decent choise of meals for <$30 including all you can eat salads, soups, etc usually including drinks in most cases(soft or hot) and dessert. J and I usually find the salad bar enough for a decent feed without ordering a mains too which would make the price lower. Also this would allow for those few that might have younger folk with them (the non furkids, kids). Time wise I'm guessing maybe around 7pm to allow everyone time to get home from work. Open to everyones thoughts and ideas as we only have a couple of days to organise it. Still happy to take alternate suggestions.
