  1. Ah, I see a trip to Midland is on the cards for me. Always like to see more places where I can get variety in the dogs diet without breaking the bank.
  2. I can't hear that as I don't have sound at work ..... but I do have a babble ball on the way over from Clean Run .... is that where you got yours Tiggy? I was at the post office picking up a bix box from Clean Run the other day andthere was another big box from Clean Run there too, I almost pointed to it and said 'that one too', then I wondered if it belonged to another doler in my area  It wasn't for me anyway Clean Run must be flat out right now with such a good exchange rate. Yep I got it from clean run ;) . Which post office do you go to? I bet the other package was for a doler . I will have to get one of those for Jenna, she loves talking toys, don't have a credit card so will have to get dad to order it for me. Banjo looks like he liked it but the other dog didn't seem too sure about a ball that talks.
  3. Any age after they are covered by their vaccinations, also great for older dogs in their senior years as they don't have to go beyond a walk.
  4. I had a great one a few weeks back, a girl with two large German Shepherds at the dog park. Dogs rushed up to my dog and I so I put my dog an Australian Shepherd who is nervous of dogs she doesn't know especialy if they are bigger than her back on lead, shooed the dogs away and went to the other side of the park to resume my off lead play with my girl all with the owner watching from a distance. Two more times these dogs rushed across the park to my dog with the owner still the other side of the park and each time I put my dog on lead shooed them away and went to another part of the park(this was quiet a large park too). On the third time I gave up and headed to the car only to have these dogs rush up again, well then I lost it with the owner when she eventually came over to the dogs. I explained that regardless of how safe she thought her dogs were(one had raised hackles as it approached us) she did not know what my dogs reaction would be and her dogs subsequent reaction. She said that as it was a dog park that they were free to socialize and that is how dogs learnt to get on, which is all well and good if she had been anywhere near her dogs to control the meeting(other side of the park each time). Oh and that it shouldn't be a problem as our dogs were the same size . My dog is lucky if she is 19inches at the shoulder which is irelevant anyway as against two dogs she wouldn't stand a chance if they fought. In the end I had to walk away as my fists were starting to ball up ready to punch some sense into her. Yep, I know I should be kept on a tight leash as I AM aggresive, especially when idiots put my dog at risk.
  5. Don't worry the change has already begun by the sound of it. My BIL was not an animal person and I think saw them as dirty disease spreaders but accepted that my sister wanted dogs so tolorated them. Then he fell in love with a particular dog (Chihuahua) that joined the family as a puppy about 8 years ago. This dog sleeps in their bed, licks his face and goes everywhere with them something we never thought we would see with this guy. It took 50+ years to change habits and beliefs formed as a child but when it changed it was a complete change.
  6. Hi Ozjen Hopefully we will see you there! I am really keen to give this a go as it sounds really interesting. Where do you get the equipment and such from? I think some people use a flyball harness? I could be wrong though lol The club has the harnesses available for purchase but you can start of with any harness until you decide that you like it. With the lead I bought a 10m lunge lead from the horse shop for around $10 although you may need longer than this later. Some dogs they recommend wearing gloves with but I didn't find it necessary although they did recommend it with my dog. We flag out our tracks by using the green bamboo garden stakes and surveyors tape/ribbon (avail from Bunnings for about $8 a roll) and I use an old camping chair bag as my flag bag but the instructors usually provide them for the first couple of weeks. I started with a car harness but found that it slipped too much and then went for one of the clubs harnesses. Wet weather gear is recommended too with it being over winter but given how little rain we got this year I didn't need more that a waterproof jacket once or twice during the season.
  7. As if you could do that Throw her over my fence before you throw her over the pound fence Crikeys! Glad she's okay! Wasn't quite that bad, she launched from near the top of the A-frame (Jenna has never even looked at missing the colour before yesterday :D That is Abbey's trick when she is feral) and landed on her feet but tripped on landing and went down on her shoulder (I was a bit closer and at a better angle to OzJen). OzJen grabbed her when she left the ring and was worried coz she was shaking - me being the cruel person I am went over and grabbed her, told OzJen she was fine and not to baby her and took her out the back to make her listen before putting her in the crate However I had noticed that she had trotted off perfectly sound after doing her dive bomb and she was "shaking" due to adrenaline from being a feral Aussie not coz she had injured herself I am assuming she pulled up all right today. OzJen? I can understand why you would have had a minor heart attack though :D A few dogs lost their footing on the grounds yesterday for some reason when turning or landing after jumps. Yep, no bad side effects she was still keen to have time on the treadmill the next day. I don't get a chance to use it as she jumps on behind when its my turn and just about takes my legs out. It certainly didn't stop her trying to cheat with the jumping either, as J said at least she knew to jump the timming gate jump at the end.
  8. Heheh I can imagine the look on ozjen's face I bet the Lappies would have pulled a crowd, lovely fluffy teddy bears they are Is that what someone told you RE Kelpies? Then you won't be able to show them! I got to catch some of the sheepdog demos which were done near the obedience / agiility section, just brilliant stuff, was great to watch. Yes, Ozjen was not impressed with Miss Jenna but almost had a heart attack when she landed chest first of the A frame with her front legs buckled under her. I'm sure she only did it so mum would feel sorry for her and not be mad. Pity she was too heavy for me to throw over the pound fence on the way home. ;)
  9. Thanks, amypie Website is great! Looks like so much fun! I am getting a Dobermann I am getting a little frustrated though, seems like just about everything is on a weeknight! And like I said before I can only go places at night every second week on weekdays. I am looking for a good place to do obedience and can only find one place that seems to do weekends, but it's over an hour from here. Could anyone point me in the right direction? I am in the southern suburbs. Someone told me that they thought there was a place in Gosnells that had classes on Sundays but I can't seem to find anything. emery, congrats ;) Was there decent security at the Royal Show for dogs this year? Just curious after what happened to the poor lil Chi. Hi Ravenau1 I started tracking with Trackwest this year and its alot of fun with very friendly people. The dogs pick it up very quickly and if the owners pick it up just as quick there is every likelyhood of obtaining a tracking title by the end of the first season. I'm not one of those people though so haven't entered a trial yet, maybe next season. Tracking is open to dogs of all ages and types and I was told that they are thinking of doing a puppy or youngster group next season. At this stage it is held in the Gnangarra pine forrest on a Saturday morning starting at 8am, there is a reasonable amount of hiking around as we lay tracks for each other as well as follow tracks ourselves. At tracking trails we usually get a lovely roast dinner for $5 after the trial is over and its a nice relaxed atmostphere for the presentations.
  10. Try checking out the greyhound bulletin board on their site too they sometimes have ones available. Occassionally see the odd one in Quokka too.
  11. Yep that woulda been us then, I had the only Labs in obedience today and she's the only choc I've seen in obedience The poor girl was more than distracted, she was a tad worried about all the people there. She pulled off some nice heelwork once I got her attention at the start peg (I have never had to fight that hard to get her attention before! That was telling me from the start it wasn't going to be good), but then when we got near the ring ropes the crowd was just too much for her to handle and she had a bit of a meltdown Where were you, Mim? Edit: Here, you can confirm if it was us or not :D Millie's round from today: Neve mind Rubystar, she will make it up to you at the state obedience. Bdazzled, quite a few people commented to me about the stunning Aussie in obedience today and how well he worked, so enjoyed telling them what a big achiever he is. ;)
  12. Would be such a shame to loose this wonderful site but given the amount of dog poop I saw when I was heading back to the car last time we were there people only have themselves to blame. Unfortunatly the lazy ones always spoil it for everyone else.
  13. Why not email Wazzat Xolo, she is in WA and I seem to remember reading that she was offering to help someone else with regard to the same matter. I think she is an ex council ranger and has also gone through the more than 2 dogs process before herself. She may be able to offer some advice. Stinks that you try to do the right thing and get penalised for it, I hope it all works out. ETA Whoops, just read that it all worked out, Congratulations!

  15. So what was the reason given for removing obedience from the WC? Its a big step backwards given that we get many people comming to have a look at the dogs over that weekend and they could be prospective new members of Canine. Obedience is something they can do with their dogs without having to be fit themselves or having a reg pedigree dog. I thought Canine wanted to increase membership.
  16. I had to read this twice, I couldn't believe it. While I never met Norskgra she felt like a friend through the DOl community, my thoughts and prayers are with Vicsta as well as the rest of her family and friends at this sad time. RIP Norskgra, we'll miss you.
  17. Try making a larger arc and keep it lower.Start from in front of the nose and do like a large C around to the rear remaining level with or slightly lower than his nose. As he gets the hang of it you can then tighten the circle to a spin. by decreacing the size of the C.
  18. Last year one of the WA ladies unexpectedly lost her husband while she was doing the circuit so it is now a difficult time of year for them all as they where all very close plus she has kids. A few months later they lost two more close friends within months of each other again unexpectadly so it has been a very rough year for them. We travelled with them the previous year to do the curcuit and had a great time. People still look at me weird when I say we travelled with 13 dogs across Australia to attend dog shows but it was great fun and the dogs travelled well.
  19. YUMMY! They look very morish. Don't see Jenna doing great, there is something about that dog and long drops on grass, she just has to roll and have a back scratch. Grrr! I'm sure one of your cookies will make me feel better. Lol - so you take her in the ring for obedience Ozjen? Yep, I'm probabaly the biggest part of why we fail out there. One day, we'll get it together.
  20. One, ten! They will make me feel better when Ruby greets the stewards in the heelwork, when she jumps on the judge in the SFE, when she looks at me like she's never seen the drop signal in her life before in the DOR, shall I go on? So, remind me why are we getting out of our lovely cosy beds so early in the morning to drive all the way to Bunbury for our naughty pooches. :p :D :p Beacuse I do it every bloody show and I think I should have a sleep in once or twice a year! Well at least till 6am!! lolololol But you have good puppy dogs that make it worth the trip . Mean't to come across for Xolo pats after presentations today and then got sidetracked and missed you.

  23. I think it is that same amusement that makes me enjoy torturing 5 year old kids at work ;) I made a 5.5yo girl cry today Hopefully Soggy's sit stay and Millie's down stay are unbroken this weekend Lots of good vibes being sent Sophie's way! .....and that Jenna keeps her belly glued to the grass on the drop stay.
  24. ;) Now why couldn't I put it that simply.
