7.30 Report Abc To Do Expose On Dd Puppy Farms
ellies mum replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
What I heard about this idea of starting a 'clean up' group, sounded like another version where cleanliness, adequate food & shelter, & health care were seen as the essentials. But nothing was said about 2 critical issues re the breeding & homing of dogs as companion animals: 1. providing for socialisation & a range of experiences in the real world...for the dogs & puppies. Both essential to the development of dogs as companion animals; 2. breeder responsibility, at point of sale, to match puppies with owners, screen owners, provide settling in & maintenance advice & later support. Essential for the welfare of both dogs & new owners. Both 1 & 2 are standard basics done by 'good' registered breeders. Australian research even confirms that claim for 1. Absence of 1 & 2 demonstrate puppy farming, IMO.....whoever does it. Also this group would continue to mix purebreds with health aims in view. However, I recently posted an excellent paper from the Norwegian Kennel Club & School of Veterinary Science which set out breeding practices with health aims in view.....while still only producing purebreds. What is absent in Australia, is a public voice like that, representing the kennel clubs & another independent academic view. This is the clincher - this is the next phase of the debate that we need to have now. Most puppy farmers project an image of rolling hills and cleanliness. But this isn't all that well-adjusted COMPANION breeds need. If we only focus on the "bad" puppy farmers with filthy diseased dogs, the large-scale commercial farmers will thrive. A friend bought a dog from a farm recently. She told me that the dogs had 3 acres to run free in. She went and checked it out and the dogs looked well cared for and the operation looked very professional. Thing is, companion breeds don't need or want 3 acres to run around in, they want - need - a name, games, and interactions with their humans. Whenever I see these stories I think of my Lucy. She was a breeding bitch at a very dodgy puppy farm and was rescued by the Schnauzer Club. After a few days in my home, she started coming into the house and trying to be with me. She was terrified - shaking, with darting eyes - but still wanted human interaction - it was in her breeding. When she saw me cuddle Fergus her tail wagged frantically. To this day, whenever I say her name, she gets excited. And thats why we call the companian animal....to be with us....all the time... its so sad for the "breeding bitches",,,,never to have a cuddle on the lounge...or a smile when they just give you the "I love you" look... -
couldnt have said it better myself...

I actually just watched this again on the net....I am sitting here crying foir the dogs.....and their life.....its so sad.... Please we have to do something .....make them stop...somehow.... Principles.......none....even admitted by the woman who previously breed for cash.... I am sickened.........kalma where are you.. -
Just had a thought, I see that the 7.30 report is doing a story on puppy farms this week, wonder if they know of this new proposal ??? May I suggest that you contact them and see if they will put the spotlight on it ?? Nothing like a bit of publicity to get a council motivated ! and another thought, there is a Facebook page against puppy farms I believe ??? Post your letter on there and try to get all the members the world over to send the letter. Strength in numbers and all that. thats great sent to many ppl on my email......strength in numbers...

Boarding Kennel Suggestions Please Newcastle Nsw Area
ellies mum replied to traciemc's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks very much Gillybear......... I always welcome inspections and treat the dogs as our own till you return.. I had a french bulldog over Christmas and he was wonderfful....although we did need a dribble towel....he was such a sweetheart and enjoyed our airconditioned kennels in the 40C degree heat over Chrissy..... -
Serious ;) are these kennel located in Sydney? Yes, most definitely... and probably much more common than you think! That is very scary :D - surely they must be contravening some boarding kennel regulation ;) - if people know about this, are these kennels being dobbed in or anything done to let unsuspecting dog owners know what is happening. If we all think we are using reputable kennels with great premises but are being deceived as these premises are for "show" only :D , then I sure as hell would like to know about it. ETA - apologies to OP for hijacking your thread over this issue, but I am shocked at this revelation :p We own and operate a kennel on the Central Coast and we make appointment times that suit us and the perspective clients.... We dont allow "drop in" access as the dogs are the very most important thing about our kennels and it can be disruptive. Most people are very happy to make an appointment time so we dont have the fur guests running around during thier inspection and appreciate that we are so strict if they choose to check in. I believe in showing EVERYTHING at an inspection even down to the cooked chicken and veges if the people want to see it......:p) We have bedrooms not cages ........and only take small medium dogs. I think it is appropriate for appointment in this day and age as we have playtime with the guests most of the morning and afternoon.......not something thats easy to manage if you have ppl popping in to look. I prefer to meet and show people around as I am the owner and the responsible person for these guests on my property. I am sure if you look at it from this point it is understandable... And I dont agree with not showing everything ...and we dont have an "out the back" section.hehehhee

ellies mum replied to k9angel's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Luki is proof that "Anything is possible" when you dont give up hope. And yes he is so tiny and thin. He has eaten well today, hopefully it wont take long to fatten him up. He comes out again shortly. He likes to suggle his nose under your arm or into your lap. He is a very loving and very gentle natured baby. he is adorable...i still dont understand how these babies get left in the pound...wasnt someone looking for him.. its so sod. -

I have left my cocker spaniels at Playhouse at Wyee......Dave is really good and Michelle is lovely...he looks after big...she looks after small..and they have lovely staff.... I am really sorry we dont take the biggies....I love them all...we rescue anything in need as you can read in the rescue thread Bella Oz and i but we purpose built Just Like Home for the littlies..... I've heard nothing but great things about Playhouse and a lady who rescued two malamutes from me regularly boards them there. She is really happy with the service. From what I have been told the owners are true dog lovers (always a bonus) They certainly are and have a rescue Westy from Westielover...... I am happyt to recommend them for the large dogs

Hi guys, As a regular here on DOL and a rescue person myself let me tell you all about my "Just Like Home Pet Resort" about half and hour from the new one in Terrigal. We have put a huge amount of time and thought into what we have now opened last September (and money)...... We have 17 bedrooms with NO cages and we dont mix dogs from different families EVER......in the bedrooms. We have a LCD tv in the cottage for the dogs to have the home feel and play piped music during the night. We also have airconditioning and an air flow system........ We have playtime with a human most of the day as our numbers are small and as long as the dogs are social I temp test and allow playtime with other dogs of similar age and size. We DONT take dogs over cocker spaniel size (45 CM ) in height at the highest point of the dog at the back end near the tail. I have had an influx of lovely old senior dogs over the Christmas period with two being 17 and needing medication and special care.I feel this may be because several vets on the Coast and Sydney have found out about us and after their staff have inspected our facility have recommended us to their clients. We feed Hills Sciencediet and I cook chicken thight fillet minced by our butcher....(all human grade food) with veges and rice .....I try to feed as close to home as possible and ask the usual diet on checkin. I think their is more than enough clients to support the kennels here on the coast and have been to look at the new one..It is lovely .... We trade on personal attention and as I run and own the business my main concern is for the dogs and their welfare and happiness whilst in care. We have a website that is a work in progress at the moment but please pop by and have a look. www.justlikehomepetresort.com.au Just wanted to let you know that you have a DOL rescue person out here offering a personal service for you and your dogs. Our price also includes everything.....$35.00 for the first dog and $30.00 for the second family dog sharing a bedroom. I have found several kennels have extra's for this and that... We offer a 5pm checkout on departure and an 8.30 checking on coming in. Thanks for reading Deb

What a sad end for a lovely girl.... hope the owners rot in hell....bad karma to you who let her become sick and had to be PTS by someone else.
