Best Age To Train A Dog
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
There are 45mins away from the Toowoomba Obedience club, which dont really teach you much in the processes of how and why and make you use check chains even on young pups. They are 30mins away from me but i see them nearly every weekend. -
Best Age To Train A Dog
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I wasn't asking for me huski My young cousins (both brother and sister) have a pup each, they are now about four or five months old i think. Because they live away from me I was thinking I could take one dog at a time for two or three weeks and train. Then train them and how to keep up the training. Thought it would be easier then trying to train them and confusing the pup. I would never send my dog away though Huski, and it would be good practice for me to brush up my skills. -
Like when they do those in house boarding/training, what is the best age to send a dog in to learn manners and basic obedience - sat, drop, stay, come, heel with some mild distractions?

The Stupid Things People Teach Their Dogs.
WildatHeart replied to Gayle.'s topic in General Dog Discussion
He he thats funny. Mine's not funny: I have an OH that taught mine an unwanted 'trick'. He taught her to jump at on the bonnet of the old paddock basher. When he told me I told him it nots a good idea and that she doesn't know the difference between that car and another car. Sure enough, i get a very cranky phone call one day saying my dog had jumped up on the bonnet and roof of he's $50k car and ITS MY FAULT!!!!! -

wow! Thanks for sharing -
Also, it doesn't matter if she's there or not. If these ones can get caught wouldn't that be a good thing?
-
poodlefan, i've said it might be a possiblilty, i never have said she was stolen but it is suss. No she wasnt desexed yet.
-
Cant they fine them or something when they are caught?!?!
-
Yeah i read that while researching this morning I really do hope she isn't with these kind of people
-
Yes that seems logical. Plus the fact that the pup may have not even been stolen, its just one of many possible senerios.

I'm not Jodi . . . but suggest that there's a story about a dog fighting ring stealing dogs, and the police being unwilling to investigate. Include a sad story and a number for people to call if they have information. That would boost readership in the local fish wrap :D and might actually help the situation. Someone else may have better suggestions . . . I'm not an expert . . . but this does sound like a cast that needs public attention. I'm confused, i was replying to Jodi1981 but i'm sorry, i dont think its funny what you just said about the boosting readership. Just think how you would feel if someone made a joke about your missing dog, and think about the fact that it may be used for baiting... ETA: sandgrubber, something like that would not normally bother me but i am worried about the dog. And the paper idea sounds great ill talk to my sister about it.

Thanks stonebridge will do

What do we ask the papers Jodi?
-
She rang police, they wont do anything cause the dog could have 'just runaway' even though she mentioned the other dogs that are missing.....
-
I told her this morning to ring RSPCA (worth a try) and the police as well. It makes me sick to think that may be where she is...

This may be a long shot but.... Over a week ago one of my sisters two dogs, a 6 month old Bull Arab x Staffy went missing. My sister has walked around the neighbourhood (about 20 - 30 homes in the area) asking if anyone had seen her dog. It was strange for her to go missing as she doesn't leave her mother's side and the mother was at home. On her rounds the people in the area have lost two staffys and a purebred Bull Arab last week also. One person said serveral months ago the same thing happened with more staffys and two red nose dogs as she described (so pitbulls) and they think these dogs had been stolen to fight in organised dog fights. We are assuming these things still happen. The neighbour hood is semi rural in south east qld. She always had her suspisions her dog was stolen and now that she has since found out about other dogs she is nearly certain her pup has been stolen. How would one go about trying to find where or how these fights happen (if they do)?

Really? That's interesting. So it most likely be the shampoo, I washed her again with Aloveen hoping it will help and the scratching has died down a bit. Thanks for the info Nic,

Came across this, its a year old. I'm not saying i agree with it but it brings out some points...

I cannot remember for the life of me but there is that qld 'trainer' that breed a malinois x something, might have been husky??? To make something that was smart and have lots of stamina... pfft, yeah, that's guaranteed (someone will remember for me what it was)
-
Hugs for you and Chloe. I hope he finds the answer for you

It seems that everytime I use this, my dog gets very very itchy. She will be fine and then when I wash her a few days afterwards she starts. When i use aloveen she doesnt get itchy and her diet never changes so i'm putting it down to possibly being the shampoo. Does anyone else get problems with it? It might be just a coincedence and not the shampoo at all.

Looked fantasic. Until i saw the price

Should wormers be rotated as to avoid worm resistance (like in horse wormers) or is there no need with dogs?
-
GSD and 30 acres. Plus the 4 to 6km run when I ride my horses and she follows. Talk about trying to keep weight on her...

trauma in the eye can result in an ulcer occuring in which cause needs special ointment to help repair it. They are also painful. Eyes aren't things to umm and arhh about.
