Hi, my kelpie x border collie is a barker. My neighbors informed me that he was barking all day when I wasn't home. I set up a recording and they were right. All day long. Spoke to other neighbors and they said the same, they said he barked at anything and everything and nothing. I currently use a dogtra ys500 on him. Neighbors have said the issue has improved (4 months since using the collar feedback) When out with me in the ute, sometimes he doesn't care that the collar will go off. He'd rather just grit he's teeth and get the stim just so he can bark. The collar shuts off for 15 seconds after the stim, even if the dog still barks. He knows this and will just go nuts to bark as much as he can and stops just before the 15 seconds is up. Sometimes he will just keep going again though just because he really wants to bark. Most times the barking is at a person, other times I'm not really sure what its out, and other times he will bark (if I'm driving to my horses) a couple kms from where a dog in a yard barks back that we drive past. Once past he stops. Looking for collar recommendations please that possibly don't shut off? He is very timid of people so maybe the collar is exacerbating the issue? He is exercised most days for about 2hrs (when I say exercised, I mean racing around the whole time and foaming at the mouth extent), has another dog to play with, bones and toys to chew and some training at night.

Aloveen Shampoo And Itchy Dog?
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't know if there was specifically a pet range I just was thinking that maybe it might be worth a shot in trying the human stuff. -
I hadn't washed my dog for probably a good 3 months but four days ago I did. As usual I used the Aloveen oatmeal shampoo. Since then she has been scratching and chewing like mad and she hadn't been doing that before I washed her. No fleas. I have had a sneaky suspicion for the last year or so that the shampoo might make her itchy as it's been getting worse and because I hadn't washed her for so long I'm almost certain now it's the culprit. Could this be possible? If so, does anyone have any good suggestions on what I could try instead? Moo goo crossed my mind actually...

Barking And Neighbours Complaint
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I was able to talk to two neighbours this morning (one on downside didn't answer their door so will try them after work). Both neighbours said yes my dogs do bark at noises or them, or people walking past out the front (school route). They said the shepherd wasn't the issue but the younger dog. One neighbour said they both sit down if he tells them too. He wasn't too concerned though because they've just sold their house and moving out next week. I have set up video and audio to record all day anyway. Topside neighbour said its heaven when I'm home. He agreed to give me feedback once I start doing something about it. Sooo which now leads me to, what can I do about it. I was thinking maybe a collar from K9Pro. And probably just for the kelpie x?, as both neighbours said its him causing the most noise and only because he bark that sets off the shepherd. If anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them. Going to contact the council today as well. -
Barking And Neighbours Complaint

Just downloaded Audacity and seems I can record sound via my laptop (has built in microphone, who knew?) and it says I have enough space to record 169 hours. obviously won't do video but its a good start. -
Barking And Neighbours Complaint
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's a good idea. I will see if my council has these. I'm trying to sort something out in regards to this, thanks That way whoever wrote the note is less likely to take the next step and start complaining to council, it gives you time to assess whether it is in fact your dogs and one of your other neighbours may approach you and give you more info on whether they are in fact barking and if so when and who. Really like this idea. Thanks for that. I was considering door knocking close neighbours in the morning and not even mentioning the letter but just asking if they noticed my dog/s barking and if they could give me some info, time of day etc. -
Barking And Neighbours Complaint

I am looking into some type of recording device at the moment but going along the lines of "it is my dogs" what is the best way to go about that? -
I'm just after some advice, options and ideas. I can home today to find a hand written letter on nice pretty paper in the mail box. Dear Neighbor, I don't know if you are aware of your dogs incessant barking all day. It is most disturbing to the whole neighborhood and it has to stop which means you must do something about it. My next step will be to inform the council. Please do the right thing. A neighbor. If it is my dogs I want to do the right thing and fix the problem asap. I'm grateful the neighbor has approached me first before resorting to council first. I have a 6 year German shepherd female desexed and an 8 month keplie x border collie (entire for the moment). Dogs are crated at night so don't bark. The only time they bark (that I'm aware of) is if the neighbour walks up the side of their house, which isn't often and they aren't there for long, or when the same neighbor and looking after a relatives small white fluffy which CONSTANTLY barks at my dogs, and they don't do anything about it, even if mine aren't barking. Mine are reprimand if they bark back and they soon stop. They have only recently started looking after that dog on and off. That same neighbor did complain to me once that my dogs barked all weekend which i replied back funny that because i was away camping all weekend WITH my dogs. Not sure if it was that neighbor that has wrote the letter or not. But to be fair, I'm at work 8-5 five days a week so can't say what they do then. Dogs are run for about an hour every second morning and have training sessions inbetween. Also access to lots of toys. So I'm after some ideas, advice or options that i can take from now. Thanks

My dog was just lying asleep when all of a sudden this 'attack' came on. She wasn't dying as such but it was still quiet worrying. If I had her attention the 'attack' would just stop. It was like she was talking deep breaths (really forceful) in through her nose and out through her mouth. I videoed a part of it. She has since gone back to sleep. It lasted a couple minutes. I will add the video once its uploaded (taking forever)

I'm going to a small zoo near where I live this weekend and just wondering if anyone's got any tips. Like shooting through cage bars and anything in general. Thanks in advance.

Has Anyone Heard Of Cam Day?
WildatHeart replied to shyfig's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have attended a seminar by Cam Day and i agree with the above. Try Jane first. It was my impression that Cam Day was a resort after other behaviour modications have failed where a possibly medical issue may be the reason. The seminar to me was drugs drugs drugs..... Having said that, he can do wonders for animals that require the help of drugs. -
K9 Pro - the canine professionals say something special is going to happen once they hit 500 fans. I wonder what it is?

A person posted on a social networking site that they had Staffie x Cattledogs for sale and that they must go asap and would make a good christmas present. I wrote on there everything from BYBing, why its bad, the amount of cats and dogs in pounds/shelters at this time of year, the vet check and microchipping of puppies yadda yadda. This is what I got from the mother (that jumped in on her sons behalf) after I accused him of breeding crossbreed dogs, and when she said that she had a maltese and a shitzu (that she breeds all the time) I told her that she was breeding mongrels: Quote "They are a two bread dog and can be sold up to the age of 6 weeks without the microchip unless you are a registered breeder or pet shop...if they are not sold by the age of 6 weeks the will have to be microchipped..And just because they are a two breed dog does not make them mongrels....I have a maltese/shitzu and they are not classed as mongrels" I replied that its unethical selling puppies before 6 weeks. And that the 'breed' is not recognised by the ANKC (not that she would even know what that is) "Oh ok!...my crossbred pups sell for around 600.00 - 800.00 at the pet store and with breeders. expensive mongrals wouldnt you say. Considering I paid 500.00 for a purebred Labrador...so something is wrong. They may not be a registered breed but they are bred that way because there is a market, I am not a backyard breeder, I have both the male and the female of the breed and everyone wants them. mine had 5 pups and I could have had 20 and that still would not have been enough for the demand....there is nothing wrong with crossbreds." I'm shocked.

update about symptoms. Dog was drinking excessively, vomit was watery and they weren't too sure about the stools but think it was normal looking but runny, just little squirts. Dog was slightly shaking.
