How can I make my dog intersted in toys? She won't retrieve, she may go to the stop that it landed but then will just run off. I've tried lots of different sorts, textures, squeaky (opps, she does like stubby coolers though).

You've just described my Dally lad to a tee I've had experienced Dal people try and take him around the show ring and they come back out of breath and exhausted with a dog who misbehaves like I've never seen I certainly didn't plan it that way - but it has probably come about because he is SO independent and was a rather challenging youngster that I've had to work very hard with him. He's funny at the beach - will respond beautifully when asked but as soon as he is released he bolts off to sniff and pee or meet other dogs with the occasional glance over his shoulder. Its annoying isn't it? And my OH is always getting the shits that my dog plays up with him and will never let him catch her and just always has the comeback of 'I thought you were training her'. Ha, i tell hom what he can do but he doesn't listen. Sometimes i think the dog listens better...

If you don't want to fence it off and want to save money in the long run i would buy one of those invisivble wire dog fence. For my dog it works a treat, she has only ever felt the adversive stim once and it emits an warning tone first so that the dog knows to quickly go back, and now she knows where her boundries are.

My dog is very reponsive to me and she shows anxiety when someone else leads her away from me and cannot settle. At home when i'm not there she is fine. On the other hand, she does not respond to my OH (ok, maybe a little when he is holding a big slab of steak) and she doesn't really care whether he's there or not.-

Rish, this forum is for promoting purebreed dogs, not DD, BYB, etc. I wouldn't be proud from buying from someone that bred thier dogs to death just for money. Its ppl like you that help these ppl acheive this.

I've tried her with small mounts of sardines and salmon before but that has given her the runs (I think it's the oil). What if you tried feeding the sardines and salmon that aren't in oil? But sprinwater instead?

What a load of $#%^. We keep our patients in overnight and we certainly do not use the 'cheaper, crappy anaesthetic'. Our patients are all pre-medicated to ensure they wake up slowly and peacefully. Isoflurane is the standard anaesthetic used in what I would say, nearly all clinics. In regards to what they are induced with, there is no such thing as a crappy induction agent, just a crappy anaesthetist. Go listen to some of the anesthesiologists lecture and they'll tell you the same thing. The overnight stay has nothing to do with what anaesthetic is used. It's a choice the vets make based on what they feel is best for the animal. In my vets opinion, they prefer them to sleep it off quietly and without any excitement, thus reducing the risk of them damaging their wound. It is not distressing for our patients as they are groggy from the pain relief and are quite happy to sleep it off quietly. \ We consult mornings and afternoons and do surgeries in the middle of the day. Packs need to be sterilised and patients need time to be admitted. Plus there are pets that need to be seen to in the mornings and cannot wait till the afternoon. i was told this by a vet so merly saying what he said. To me, that made sense.... Why would they say this if it wasn't true then? He is a vet that has been practising for years...

quote] What part of metro sydney are you in? $400 does seem excessive. An overnight stay should NOT be compulsory either!! I imagine that would be more distressing for the dog if anything... If a cheaper, crappy anesthestic is used the animals don't recover as quickly so need to stay in overnight. IMO a good vet will be one that does surgeries in the morning and consults in the afternoon, that way all animals that had surgery have time to recover by the afternoon for thier owners to pick them up.

Both mine were young when they were introduced so i didn't have any problems. Now both are grown up and the cat will seek out the dog to play. I never leave them unattended though. I have a similar cat cage but its made of wire. My cat loves it, the ginger and white cat is my sisters. My cat will run up and down along the cage all day to tease the dog he he ... And this one is so cute, (she didn't drink any) http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss286/w...7/SUC515072.jpg

it says treatment and control so it should be fine, if it said prevention it wouldn't be as great -
Best Dry Food For Large Breed Puppies?
WildatHeart replied to Red Fox's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Search the thread on 'kibble' you'll find heaps of info. I use Royal Canin with raw. Some ppl have said eagle pack their dogs have runny poos and hard to keep weight on. Artemis is expensive but it depends on what your dog does best on. -
Best Grooming Tools For Dog With Undercoat?
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
they claim that the deshedder is the same as the furminator, yes or no? -
I have no idea. But i have a problem too, i'm trying to increase the time she 'touches' by not clicking straight away (i have very minutely delayed the click) but she doens't get it, she tries different things like pawing, biting, licking etc. Then she just gets bored and won't do anything.

Schedules/rate Of Reinforcement
WildatHeart replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It would depend what level of training the dog was at. If the dog was learning a new behaviour then i would want to be rewarding everytime. After the dog knows what is being asked i would put it on an intermittant schedule of reforcement (reinforcing every now and again) -
i'm a being dumb cause i don't get it......

How To Avoid Dogs Becoming 'collar Smart'
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have successfully used an electric fence as a barrier before and she won't go ANYWHERE near it now. I felt the shock both systems give and i doubt she'd want to test the innotek. Even if i hold a roll of electric tape in my hand she will take off, and this is after only being hit once with it, many many months ago. The containment system is used it conjunction with a fence that she prolly couldn't get through too easily anyway. I have started training her with it using the plastic studs supplied, the collar beeps and she turns around away from the wire. But i can see your point about the other dogs roaming and my dog getting blamed....and i do have a painful neighbour that i haven't done anything to upset yet.....
