Obedience Classes In Toowoomba Qld
WildatHeart replied to ownedbyamstaff's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think there is a couple month waiting list in Toowoomba. Well, there was when a rang end of last year. Ive done the cert 111 ndtf course and they don't agree with much of their theory. I stopped going because i wasn't aloud a release word and other things. -
I've got no advice sorry, but i doubted Kei knew he would have done anything wrong. Dogs don't have any deductive reasoning, so him coming back inside with his head down was prolly cause your hubby would have been acting differently, For dogs to understand that a behaviour was not acceptable, punishment is best given within 1 -1/2 secs of it occuring.

dont know if this helps but my last dog couldn't have roo meat. He's skin was very flaky, like a person that had got burnt in the sun and peeled off in huge flakes, and was itchy red and raw.

Maybe because the dog sees it as a totally different behaviour. There's go to that place. then its' go to that place next to the reward. Hence maybe the dog is confused on what is meant to be happening. ..

The way i did it. I got a wand thing (or a stick with something on the end of it) and held this close to my dogs nose she that she would accidently bump it with her nose. As soon as she did i marked with yes (or clicker if you prefer) and followed with a reward. i kept doing this and after a few minutes she knew what was happening. I then started to move the target around, and kept yes - treat. ONce she knew what to do i added the word touch just as she was about to do it. Repeat repeat, your dog should get it. If the dog starts biting at teh target, dont mark or reward. Just ignore those ones. You can try different targets, your hand, a lid etc. Hope this helps

Where To Hear About Seminars/conferences?
WildatHeart replied to Paws4Thought's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Is she's coming to QLD? -
Off lead socialisation wouldn't be the best for a pup. There's no control. What if one pup had a go at another pup? That is a negative experience for that pup and all experiences need to be postive. i don't like the idea of it, it would probably also make them 'doggy', ie, see other dogs higher and more fun than the owner. just my opinion

I would like to know more about training in drive. What is it, how do you do it, where do you start. I have done a search but all the topics are always in the middle, not from the beginnings of training in drive. I was looking at maybe doing steve's course but i wanted to know more about it first, the benefits and how to begin. thanks

You said Kei is fine in a martingale so why fix something that isn't broken? (the instructor, not you) In his puppy class there's so many more distraction then what you have at home so if you can work on his focus/attention then he will also behave better while in class in the martingale.

My Dog Is Not Interested In Toys
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
acutally, come to think of it persephone when she's inside i have to hide all the cat toys cause she just wrecks them (little ball that rattles, a wind up mouse like you suggested but now doent work cause she pulled the string right out the back of it) Wouldn't these toys pose as a health risk, being small and all that. -

*Penalty yards (walking towards a desirable object and returning to the start if the dog pulls)* Isn't that also negative punishment? -

There is great way to let yourself understand how to shape using a clicker (its heaps of fun too). Get someone to help you and get them to lay out a bunch of different objects on a table. Like for instance, a cloths peg, a biro, one of those small toy cars, figurines, anything at all. Explain to your helper that you want them to think of something that they want you to do with one, or two (the more the harder) pieces. So for example, they want you to push the car back and forth, maybe once, or twice, or for two pieces put the peg on a figurine. Once they thought of something (its a secret so don't let them tell you) give them a clicker and get them to shape your behaviour into doing what they want. Then swap so you have control of the clicker. have fun, you'll soon learn how frustrating it can be for the dogs

That Doggy Smell On Coat - Yeast Infection?
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
She gets brushed couple times a week with a slicker. Just did her over two weeks ago with a rake and furminator. Her bedding is one of those frames with the hession stuff changed when really dirty. She's not chewing her feet. And it doesn't smell like anal glands (had the pleasure of getting squirted once when i was helping to restrain a GR in a vets that got very scared!) And she doesnt have any problems with anal glands that i know of..... -
That Doggy Smell On Coat - Yeast Infection?
WildatHeart replied to WildatHeart's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
she straches a bit but i'm having trouble ridding the fleas. I have just moved out of the rental property where the fleas were bad to our new acerage (flealess) yay!!. I'm just waiting for the capstar to arrive today to knock them out. If it is a yeast infection, how do they get that, what are the symptoms and how treated? thanks 4paws -
My 2yr old GSD always has that doggy smell and the longer she goes without a bath the worse its gets. It seems to be on her coat - or skin, because i can smell it on my hands afterwards. She gets bathed about every three weeks with avoleen or fidos every day dog shampoo, washed out properly. She eats one cup of royal canin and the rest raw each day. What is it? ETA after possible ideas that it may be yeast infection. If so, what do other ppl recommend? Feed? Megaderm Healthy paws skin Omega 3.6.9 oil Goochy natural canine etc

I was feeding supercoat too, until i learnt better from dogzonline. My dog had dry, flaky itchy skin and pooped heaps and heaps. If you do a search on 'dry food' you will learn the pros and cons of every brand of dry food and then you can make up your own mind on what to feed. I feed royal canin and raw, mainly raw. Minimal poos, shiny coat
