lappiemum replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for the support ;) I should point out that next year the FLCV is holding the inaugural breed championship show - which on current indications is going to have a lot of interstate entries. We are very pleased with the support so far, I have to say that when it comes down to it, the Lappie community does get on board! (and we all love a bit of friendly interstate rilvalry!!) -

lappiemum replied to Everglo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hey SP - we're there on Friday too, just one Lappie though....assuming that we get numbers soon! Where are we allowed to set up? -
Hey WA - hope things go well with the new puppy for your Aunt and Uncle. I actually have a work collegue in WA who is a cocker breeder and showie (she just did very well at the Perth Royal!) , but no idea of litters. She would probably know about whats happening in the breed, so if you need any info let me know and I'll get in contact with her for you.

Anyone Know What Kind Of Dog This Is?
lappiemum replied to nannygoat's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Can't see spitz in there - would just say x of some type - but if it's from PP it's very very likely to be puppy farm so hopefully the owners will be lucky & get a lovely mixed breed - aka as a "bitser" ;) - they will be healthy, easy to groom and look after, and have a lovely nature. BTW I love the LR pics - what cuties!!! -
You can't argue with stupid - they'll defeat your logic and reason every time - sad but true!

Wary Of A Particular Breed... Anyone Else...?
lappiemum replied to WillowGirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Never met a breed that I didn't like in some way Not too fond of cockeroaches though. And maggots, and mossies. Have trouble liking them. -
Sorry, not sure if this has already been posted, but this is a story in the weekend Australian magazine from 2010 which talks about the profit making motives of the cross breeding puppy farms and interviews the Billabong Creek farmers, as well as the Valley View farmers. Although it has a slighly unbalanced focus on pedigree breeders being snobbish and obessesed with ribbons (and not the real reason for breeding being to improve the breed overall) its still worth a read if you've missed it. And there's a DOL reference in there too ;) http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/features/making-oodles/story-e6frg8h6-1225860114820

This is yet one more example of poor decision making associated with Ms Gillard, so it does follow a pattern (sadly!). However, to be perfectly blunt, if Ms Gillard's partner approached me as a breeder, I probably wouldn't sell her a puppy because they wouldn't meet the most important thing of all with dog ownership - they need to actually be around to make that dog part of their lives. Thats the whole purpose of having a companion animal - its because you WANT a companion, and have the time and commitment for one.

This is correct in terms of the legislation as it currently stands. The VCA also are working on this, but its mostly behind the scenes - so please don't assume that nothing is being done. However, people need to understand that with the change of government, all the VCA's previous work has essentially become null and void and they must establish new working relationships - thats just the way politics works. However, the legislation does exempt dogs with VCA/ANKC recognised pedigrees - this was due to lobbying efforts on part of the VCA. However, the outcome is not perfect, and more work is required to educate both the public and government about the futility of BSL.

Attention Gsd, Rotties And Dobe Owners
lappiemum replied to german_shep_fan's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would think this is a rumour. The legislation (in its current form) also makes note that that animals which have recognition by the VCA/ANKC are excluded from the dangerous dog measures. -

Best post yet. PP - please take the advice you have been given and contact the breeder directly. -
Unable To Keep Dog Thats Under A Contract
lappiemum replied to pinkpuppy's topic in General Dog Discussion
PP - assuming you are still reading this thread - you need to approach the breeder and speak with them directly. Ethically, you should honor the terms of your contract, although not knowing the actual contract its a matter for debate as to its enforcement. However, my advice is that the primary interest in this situation should be the welfare of the animal, not the money. Personally, if I was in the shoes of your breeder, I would be seeking this resolved asap (esp given that it is now all over a public forum before - I'm assuming- he/she has any knoweledge of the situation). If thats the case, I'd also be very very angry that you have chosen to discuss this issue here rather than with me personally. So as a heads up, you may want to address that right now. And if you are looking for a future as a breeder/showie, this is not the best way of starting out. -
thats great to hear CW.

Staffords Being Made A Restricted Breed In Vic?
lappiemum replied to parrotpea's topic in General Dog Discussion
But it does provide an appeal process to people whose dogs are already registered but council decides they believe they are a PB cross. That is what a lot of people who have posted here are worried about. Yes - the lesson here was to already have your dog registered. -
Poll On Yahoo - Should Rottweilers Be Outlawed In Australia
lappiemum replied to TrinaJ's topic in In The News
How stupid can you get. Currently (and depressingly!) the vote is narrowly in favour of banning rotties - talk about uneducated predjudice getting a foothold in public policy! Yes (1827) 53% No (1636) 47% -
Staffords Being Made A Restricted Breed In Vic?

Quickasyoucan - I think the appeal process is null and void if the dog is unregistered and found wandering, and if officer declares the dog to be potentially dangerous, or likely to harm a person/animal. -
Staffords Being Made A Restricted Breed In Vic?
lappiemum replied to parrotpea's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi guys- A couple of things. The standards by which an animal will be identified are yet to be released (its ministerial decision) but its likely to be visual, yes. However, we have heard that there is likely to be an exemption where the owner can provide an ANKC pedigree certificate (so basically, its either on mains or limited register) or a certificate of breed from a vet. However, this all will need to be verified. My understanding is that APBT are not recognised within Victoria, however, so if you do own one, you will have needed to register it already as a restricted breed with your council. Failure to register it can indeed result in the animal being seized and destroyed. -
**warning** To All Breeders Who Use The Limited Register
lappiemum replied to Yukan's topic in Breeders Community
I'm not in QLD, but I had thought that if a dog was sold on limited register, that was that, unless there was a mutal agreement to transfer it over, regardless of which state the dog was now in. Can I ask under what regulation/s this has happened? I'm curious from a breeders point of view; if this is permissable in QLD as it would seem, then it does open the way for owners to transfer animals from one register to another at will, and would apparently nullify the purpose of limited register then. -
Breeds - Hd And Ed Scoring Requirements
lappiemum replied to Stolzseinrotts's topic in Breeders Community
Finnish Lapphunds are not required to test, but nowdays most breeders will test their breeding stock. The exceptions are usually with much older dogs, who are either at the end or nearing the end of their breeding age. The Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria (currently the only breed club in Australia) strongly recommends that breeders screen for hips and elbows prior to breeding. -
One of my first shows was during a huge thunderstorm, with lightening etc, at Bulla. Rained so much that they had to get the tractor out to pull cars out of the carpark. That was a bit full on, but we didn't head home! LOL On the other hand, showing when its FREEZING and windy I'm not a fan of at all!

Ohh, I sooo completely understand - and so does DOLer WhiskedAway, who is now the owner of my little escape artist puppy!

 (I have to order some more reindeer antlers off you too!) -
Hey Mirawee - great to hear there's a WA contingent coming over!! There are a few other breed club shows on that weekend (as well as the spitz show) so I would recommend that you get in as early as possible ;) Cranbourne, western port and even down near mornington pennisula might be a better bet than Melbourne - traffic shouldn't be too bad on the weekend, but if you can avoid the city crush its a good thing! ;)
