Rescue Lumping Breederswith Byb And Pet Shops
lappiemum replied to Kavik's topic in General Dog Discussion
Rather interesting LM as I know some of the background to the refusal. I didn't have an issue either way with the refusal as I didn't know the details(and I know there are 2 sides to every story!) - what got me was the FB reaction, whereby DogsVic members who may have been sympathetic were included in what was a verbal spray against all registered breeders. Not clever. -
Rescue Lumping Breederswith Byb And Pet Shops
lappiemum replied to Kavik's topic in General Dog Discussion
There was quite an interesting exchange a few weeks ago on the DogsVic site with a particular rescue group that was told it could not bring its adoptable dogs to the BigDay Out for Dogs run by DogsVic (for a number of reasons, apparently). Anyway, in the enshewing chaos and abuse, a letter was posted by the head of the rescue group which effectively accused Dogs Vic members and registered breeders of using dodgey vets, being puppy farmers, not vaccinating puppies or taking appropriate care of litters and animals in our care (etc etc). There was a heap of abuse aimed at registered breeders and DogsVic by the supporters of this group - there was even a post asking if it was true that Dogs Vic was selling unwanted dogs for scientific experiments! So I have to say, while I generally do support the work of rescue groups (noting members of our breed club have been involved in breed rescues and its part of the Club's mission) I was pretty much revolted by the abuse laid on by this group, there was certainly a feeling of PETA to it all.... -
thanks ;)

We have a confirmed pregnancy for an litter of Lappies from our cream boy Bear (Ch Janoby Clear the Way) to our black and white spectacles girl, Sohvi (Ch Watersedge Little Balck Dress). And no, we have no idea what colours we might get - black, tan and white are the most common but there is a good chance of black, and maybe a cream or two - but my money is on the traditional tri colours! LOL We should have puppies on the ground by January 23rd if all goes well.

I put down a layer of plastic on the floor of the whelping room, then have papers and vet bed. Use the vet bed that isn't rubber backed (the green backed vet bed) as that allows the liquids to go through and be absorbed by the paper underneath. A good idea is to use puppy training pads between the layer of paper and vetbed, its great at absorbing the excess, esp when the litter is a bit older (although there is usually one little monkey that works out how to dig it all up and have a chew!)

its hard to say. yes, ideally a litter of excited little puppies is what you would like to see, but there can be a number of reasons why a litter is not active and wanting to say hello when a visitor arrives - for example, they may be tired after a big play session, or it may be a hot day, or they may even be a bit flat if they have been wormed that morning. However, I would be concerned if the mother wouldn't come when the breeder called, although bitches can be a bit funny with puppies around (it just depends on the bitch). IMO Bottom line advice is to go with your instincts - you're friend is buying more than a pup, she is buying support, advice and the experience of the breeder. If she doesn't feel that its going to work out, then she should look at other options now.

Nice to see you all today! Apparently ruby spent the day mapping so wasn't terribly worried about being home without the others ;). I'll post up some pics when I manage to kick the OH off the computer - but at the moment the house is very peaceful & all Lappies are having naps ;) must if been a very big day! LOL

I can do tater salad - have heaps at the moment I'll be bringing bear & prob sausage. Would so bring Tasha but If I leave ruby at home by herself she'll howl the place down. Rubs is in season - hence the reason for bear's holiday. ;)

They could be waiting for the litter to be weaned and then do the hips after the milk has dried up. Given the positioning when doing hip xrays and the fact most vets will knock the dog out, i wouldn't like to have it done while the bitch was pregnant. It may be reasons too, as to why they haven't done it - was it an opps mateing? Or did the bitch come in unexpectedly? There are alls sorts of possibilities out there - I wouldn't want to jump to any conclusions until I knew more.

Plans for up to next 5 years & a long term plan too. Involves moving house though! LOL
