  3. Interesting. I was watching a cooking show the other day; the chef was cooking pork. His advice was that with the quality control on meat these days the old advice about having to cook the pork through completely (ie well done) no longer applied, and that you could treat it as you would lamb or steak (med/rare) without any health concerns. I have also eaten med/rare pork when out at resturants here in melb - which has been very very nice! I guess that if its ok for us, its ok for the pooches!
  4. these guys have obviously too much time on their hands (and way too much imagination!!) Have to say, I loved it!!!
  5. hmmm...my vet gave me some advice when I bought my pups in for their first examination. He said, "Chicken bones are fine. These days, chickens are culled at very young ages, and their bones are soft. Raw or cooked; I can eat them without problems; and if i can eat them, a dog can do so easily." I have to say, my OH eats chook bones happily - but then again, he thinks he's a macho cave man. (I'm also a bit concerned about a vet that eats raw chicken, but I guess everyone has their preferences! LOL )!! I would say, watch what you give them. We fuss over whether chook/lamb/other meat is ok; yet i know of dogs who have eaten socks and all sorts of things! - my sister's border collie pup ATE the bumper bar of her new car!
  6. Sounds like an allergy to something - could be mites (esp if they are scabing up), could be garden, could even be food. let us know what the vet says - but you may have to go on some kind of medicated creams, analgesic or similar (I know in humans its a steriod based cream; maybe similar in dogs?).
  7. I ended up with two pups, brother and sister, and highly recommend it. Be aware, though, that walking the dog(s) will now involve 2 people...oh, and if its like my two, they will work in partnership in stealing socks, chewing the carpet and eating every plant your garden (after they've dug it up first - apparently the roots are the best bit). Love em, really
