Hey guys - I'll start uploading soon, but if anyone wants any of these in high res just let me know ;)

generally, once the sale is made, its not their problem anymore. Petshops are there to make money, and there are enough people out there who think its normal to buy from a petshop. There is a lot of education than needs to happen.

you're super sway!!!

Thanks Havanese! (go Beana!)

Please, may we have swedish lapphunds?

any news of the swedish lapphunds? There are only two!

An ethical breeder doesn't sell to pet stores, and reputable may mean puppy farmer......! Don't get suckered in - esp when you can't be guaranteed what you are buying! - and if you are paying the same amount as you would if you were buying from a registered and ethical breeder, then its a no-brainer!!
-
Don't do it. My ex bought a cute puppy from a pet store - he grew larger than the breeds he was supposedly crossed from, he was highly reactive and fearful, had severe seperation anxiety (was removed from his mother too soon I suspect) and ended up passing away at only 7 years from complications due to diabeties. You don't know what the temperament of the parents are like, its unlikely any genetic/health testing has been done on either parents or puppy, and you have no come back in terms of breeder support. By from a breeder, and if you are a softie like me, online shopping is lots of fun!

Depending on the email/paper trail, there may be breach of an implied promise (contract), I understand that in Vic even verbal agreements can be considered a valid contract. Also depending on how much was paid, it may be easier to have a strongly worded legal letter sent to the breeder - if we are talking thousands, it would be worth the cost of a letter. Your friend may also want to get onto the appropriate state canine authority and see if there are any options there - unlikely, but worth a go. Small claims is the other way to go. edit to add - the Breeder may dispute that there was an agreement that the dog would be a show prospect, but was there a different price for the 'show' prospect to what would have been charged for "pet" (and a different deposit paid). If so, that would indicate that there was an implied promise that the "goods" (in this case, a puppy) as far as the seller was concerned would be fit for their intended purpose of breeding/showing etc, and the fact that the "goods" can no longer fill that purpose would seem to indicate a breach of promise that will need to be remedied.

I used Karen Hedberg, in Sydney. She is very good, and was definately worth the trip to see her from Melbourne. Only gave our dogs just enough to knock them out and take the xray - they were back up and wanting to do zoomies about an hour and half after she first knocked them out.

Labs4Me, you may be interested in this thread re PenHip scoring: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...=193166&hl=

which vet did the xray work? A bad xray can be very misleading. Poor hip scores can be the result of lines, environment or just bad luck in the genetic lottery. Over exercise in a puppy can also cause it (as can some agilty exercises). Don't be afraid to get a second opinon, but def tell your breeder.

what happened with the motion to amend the CEO position?
-
any news? Wanted to go, but living on the other side of Melbourne with kids etc does not go with a midnight finnish at KCC!
-
I would also class a breeder (registered or otherwise) who breeds litter after litter purely for profit as a puppy farmer. Essentially, if you making a living from it, you are a farmer.

I sooo want to do that. Just need to win lotto!!

7.30 Report Abc To Do Expose On Dd Puppy Farms
lappiemum replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
They specifically mentioned "DD"s in the promo, so I will be interested to see how much that features. -
Just saw a preview on ABC for the 7.30 Report this week (not sure what day) where they gave the distinct impression that not only were they doing a tell all on puppy farms, but with a focus on DD. Will be interesting to watch!

VicDogs has associate membership, I would check to see if that kind of membership counts under the 'applicable organisation' clause (I am assuming it would, but its best just to double check). You can join as a full member if you wish - its not that expensive, and its not just for showies and breeders

I think they should let us try it, just to see....LOL
