  1. We're all sending our fav GR healing thoughts tonight. Tasha especially wants her partner in crime up and ready to do ball chaseys! Get better quick Charlotte!!!
  2. You expect to pay the same price for a breed potential imported lineage pup on main registry, or a pup from a renowned kennel esteemed for producing consistent trademark type, for the same price as their pet limited-reg counterparts? If not, it is profiteering and all about morals? Hmm thats an interesting perpective, I'm thinking of a few kennels whom I now might just ask for a discount based on that ethos ... see what puppy I end up with the cheek of me wanting their bloodlines and the years of their expertise and trained eye, to benefit my learning and my dogs but I dont want to pay for it uh-huh bcz if they were breeders with morals, they would sell me their standout pup representing their breeding effort for the same price as a pet ... ??? With Main reg you are not only buying a dog, you are buying its pedigree, and you expect that pedigree to also benefit the future breeding and standing of your own dogs, else you would not seek it. One small point; price is not always in indicator of quality.
  3. Personally, I would find a number of those to be unacceptable. Sorry your friend is having problems with finding a breeder - all I can say is that she should keep looking, when you find the 'right' breeder its really worth the effort!
  4. If you are researching your breed, there are plenty of websites with average prices out there. Also, sometimes a price may vary - such as when the pup is the offspring of an imported line.
  5. What most ethical breeders charge for a puppy has very little to do with what you invest in your breed. If you expect financial compensation, you're going to be rather disappointed! Originally, all pedigree dogs were mains registered. Limited register came along as an option for breeders who wanted some control over the breeding of their lines. However, reality is that there are a lot more pet homes than show/breed homes. If a breed has a sliding scale of charges then thats up to them. However, I wouldn't come on here and state that a breeder who has a single price - thats within the range of what you would expect to pay - is cheapening the breed - actually, I'd find that insulting, given that I know many reputable and very ethical registered breeder who don't have a sliding scale at all.
  6. So dogs on limited register are discount bin? It costs the same to have a litter, regardless of what is in it. Main register is for dogs that may be shown and bred from, limited for those that are not intended to be shown or bred from. And there are plenty of 'show' quality dogs in pet homes.
  7. It costs the same to raise a litter, regardless of whether the puppy is show prospect or pet homed. Also while a puppy may appear to be show prospect there is no way to 100% guarantee it. Finally, there are many 'show prospect' dogs in pet homes - the reality is that there are more people who just want a dog as part of their family and are not interested in showing. Was the breeder you spoke to registered?
  8. The story about Jed and the fire was just shown on National 9 news here in Melbourne, they said she was heroic.
  9. God, how horrible. I can understand her going back in to the house, but that must have been gut wrenching- how brave is she! Hoping she recovers quickly.
  10. If she uses a limited register dog, the puppies cannot be registered with the canine authority and she is essentially a backyard breeder. If she uses another dog's name on the pedigree and tries to register the litter, its fraud. Not to mention in violation of several rules of the canine authority. Have a chat to the owners, see if they can see whats reasonable and ethical, esp down the track if people are buying the puppies. However, it seems that they will be going ahead with it inform them that you will be reporting the matter to the canine authority should she try registering the litter. If its intended as an unregistered litter, you may want to express concern about these people being backyard breeders themselves, esp when none of the pre-breeding health checks etc have been done, and should there be any congenitcal defects they themselves may be held liable by the puppy buyers for not taking due care and diligence (a long shot, admittedly, but possible).
