We travel to Sydney to get ours done, for us it was more important to have someone that we were totally confident in rather than price. Having said that, it wasn't an outrageous price from memory, and the xrays were very professionally done. Dogs were out for the smallest amount of time and we were up and out of the surgery within the hour of arriving, dogs thought they just had a slight nap

Is this in conjuntion with a high quality dry food, or by itself? To be honest, I would suggest she get another opinion

Rare Or Disqualifed Colours In Breeds.
lappiemum replied to poodlefan's topic in General Dog Discussion
And just to confuse things more, sable in Borzoi is now known not to be as as once reported, but almost certainly at, at with a modifier on the e series. Unlike clear red borozi which are ay. Saddleback is known to occur in Lappies, but its one of the very few colours not accepted in the standard. They are not sure of the genetics behind one, but assume that its another version of a tanpoint pattern (which is at, at). -
Rare Or Disqualifed Colours In Breeds.

+1!!! I have heard the same thing but can't find any information on it. I have not heard of it really in black and tan kelpies, or lapphunds. From an article on Finnish Lapphund Colour and Patterns by Liisa Sarakontu, who has written a bit on colour genetics. Finnish Lapphund is one of the most colorful breeds in the world. Just a few other breeds like Saluki, Pomeranian and Border Collie have about as many possible colors and patterns, and probably only Chihuahua has even more. The majority of all known canine colors and patterns is found in Finnish Lapphunds, often as several slightly different versions. Out of the most important colors, just merle (M locus) and silver (G locus) are missing totally. This great amount of colors is a richness, which has increased the popularity of the breed. Although the breed standard disallows a couple of colors, no colors in this breed have been this far associated with any defects. Blue Lapponian Herders have the CDA syndrome, but it hasn’t yet been found in Finnish Lapphunds. So there is no reason to try to avoid even the rarest colors. Breeding for color, i.e. favoring or avoiding certain colors, isn’t good for any breed. I hope that no Finnish Lapphund breeder starts favoring a certain color, because that makes it harder to pay enough attention to more important traits in a dog. The blue in Lappies is a dillution of the black and as such there is no merle. Even though one of my girls has 'silvering' in her coat, its not true silver and is just white coming through. I am not aware of black and tan Lappies being more suceptable to diseases such as parvo, or any other problems as a result of their colouring. Given that the black and tan combination is actually the most genetically dominant of Finnish Lapphund colours, I would be surprised if it was more prone to disease than other colours. -
oh, havent tried vegemite. At first it was cheese that Tash went nuts over, but then it was steak We've also had sardines (in tomato sauce ) and chicken but the fav is still steak. My butcher thinks I'm nuts buying perfectly good chuck for a pregnant bitch, but she thinks its definately justified!

Hi Hannah- problems with progesterone levels are fairly uncommon, and difficult to diagnose until things progress to the point where you may be losing the litter. In short, if your line has a history of it, or you have had failed litters that you suspect were due to this issue, then you can speak with a vet about regular testing throughout the pregnancy to monitor levels. I am aware that progesterone boosters can be given, although I don't know the frequency or the success rate of this treatment - I would suspect that it would be subject to various factors. There are also many other reasons for failure to conceive/maintain a pregnancy too, its not aways prog levels. I understand you don't have a repro vet in your local area, but you would be better off getting advice from them on this issue if you had real concerns.

Comon Things People Dont Realise About Your Breed
lappiemum replied to MonElite's topic in General Dog Discussion
people always think that the big coat on a Finnish lapphund means that you need to spend hours everyday brushing and caring for it. They are a working breed, I certainly don't think the Saami people had time to fluff coats while hearding reindeer across the ice!!LOL Oh, its does get hot in northern finland too - never ever clip their coats! -
Hi Guys- Really don't know if we shall be there - we shall let you all know, but its getting close to Tashy's due date so we wiil be taking things nice and easy. Hopefully we shall be at another Kepala before too long, though!
-
Tasha is 5 weeks today, and getting fatter She is completely ravenous - esp over meat (steak is her favourite). Will download some pics tomorrow :D
-
I would say so! We headed out there this arvo to set our gazebos up and it wa already crowded! Parking is going to be a nightmare Bugger oh well, hopefully we can find someplace!
-
Hannah- If you have concerns about your girl's levels you really need to be talking to your vet. If levels do not increase at the required rate you can have complications, but you will need a vet to monitor these levels. Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks Steve - was that the VCA or the State Government Department that you had that response from?
-
I had thought that the VCA had announced that members would be exempt from the reducation in the breed bitches; I'm not sure where the announcment is now but I do remember reading it at the time.

its all degrees, and what kind of agression. My girl is rather food obsessed at the moment and will sometimes the others know about she thinks they are out for her food (or food she wants!) during feed time. Its very low level, just for show, and the other dogs back off. Other than that, she is perfectly fine. I don't have an issue as I can understand the reasons for her behaviour and they are logical - its both physical and hormonal (plus the fact that she thinks all the steak in the world is hers) so I just manage it and its not an issue. However, if for instance, I had a bitch that was agressive with her own puppies (assuming that is not related to something like adjusting to a sudden litter after a ceaser) then no, I wouldn't use her again.
-
I remember reading about that at the time - what an awful time. Hopefully all will go smoothly this time around.
-
You're brave! LOL I'm organising everything now....so much to do! And to add to the fun, all the relatives are rocking up at my place at Christmas. These babies will certainly get some socialisation!
-
missed that announcement - the club still has her listed. That's a bit disappointing - we get a bit excited if it's a Swedish or finnish judge!
-
You can add us to the list. Confirmed by ultrasound yesterday Finnish Lapphund litter, due end of Nov (around 28th) Pic taken on Sunday - almost at week 4. She's rather hairy (they had to clip a bit on her tummy!) but she is lower in the tummy then previously. Will take a pic each week

Hey WA - PM Janboy, Sue can give you the technical break down. However my understanding is that Puppy is specifically formulated for growing puppies, while the breeder bag is more of a generalised diet.
-
Working Dog is on Sunday at Lancefield too. Can't swing a cat this weekend without hitting a dog show....

I am not sure if we shall make it for the next few months guys Will see what we can do but we won't have all the Lappies there until early next year.
