To be honest, I wouldn't say anything or pre empt any action. If you get a call from council, deal with it then. Don't go announcing that the dog got out. And yes, I've been rushed at by smaller dogs when walking my dogs, but if its a once off then I'm not going to make a big deal of it and report it to council. My concern is more that the dog in question is returned to a secure yard. Seriously, these people need a life. Sorry, but a small fluffy dog that comes running out wagging its tail? They're lucky that their over reaction and subsequent stress for you didn't trigger labour!

Walking/exercising Dogs In The Hot Weather
lappiemum replied to shells's topic in General Dog Discussion
My lot are convinced the air conditioning is the place to be right now :D - just like me! LOL Its not the end of the world if we miss a day or two with the walks - so on super hot days like today we all just chill out inside and watch videos or something In summer I'll walk them usually in the evening, I used to do the early morning walks but don't have time in the mornings now. -
ohhh - sooo many fab pics! I think these are my favs and I'm going to sneak another in - sorry :D

Same here.

There was also a major outbreak in Finland post WW2 that saw the numbers of Lapphunds decimated. The breed almost died out -which would have been tragic given how long the breed (and its ancestors) have been around.

How do you get them to stay still?? LOL They are very very cute! I take it all have their homes sorted already?

You can give her some fenugreek to help with the milk production. Its a spice that you use in Indian cooking Keep an eye on her with calcium - I don't know your breed but with 6 puppies at the milk bar its not a bad idea to keep it up to her.

Love the puppies in the basket pics MissyMoo! Lyndsay - that girl is now our smoochiest one. She loves the attention!

There is a process for dealing with this. First you need to make a written submission. Be clear, concise and logical in your arguments. Point out that many aspects of the Bill are already covered for registered breeders in terms of the kennel council rules. Also point out the impracticalities of the more extreme clauses in the bill. You may or may not appear as a witness should the Bill be referred to Committee. However, in the meantime I would be making appointments with your local MP and anyone else you can book in with in the territory parliament to lobby against it. Go to both the ALP and the Coalition and Independents. Do your research, take in a one page summary of the problems with the Bill, and leave it there with the MP. The other parties will not be inclined to support this, so give them reasons not to. Oh, its good to organise a delegation of breeders and responsible owners who oppose the bill if you do visit your MPs. They love talking to realy people, not just the lobbyists. If you need any info of lobbying just PM me.

Can't say I'd be at a show with a bitch if there was any chance she'd be whelping, but maybe they got their dates wrong?

Loving the baby pics guys! Yes, WA is rather excited I think - it will be great having another Lappie in the ring in SA too! I had a bit of a scare post worming - we think one of the babies reacted to the worming medicine (Troy puppy and kitten wormer) - I was worried at the time but got some help from my breeder friends Janoby (very grateful!) who came around with a bottle of magic drops ;) - an hour or so later the little one had perked up and spent all last night pigging out at the milkbar to make up for lost time This morning she's as fat and happy as the rest of them!

Here We Go Mandatory Desexing For All Pet Puppies.

Is anyone lobbying the ACT government over this? I would have thought the kennel club (I'm assuming its DogsNSW) would at least have an interest? -

As usual, those who would do the right thing anyway will feel forced into compliance, and those who are outside regulations and law won't give a toss and ignore it. More red tape, more rules, more restrictions - when in reality those who should be the target of authorities will continue to do as they please. -

Coat thickness can vary depending on the line (some lines seem to be heavier coated than others) as well as individual dog (you can get variations between siblings), whether its a male or female Lappie (males have a bigger coat) and then, environmental conditions....!You can also get different coats too - some dogs have really long guard hairs but less of an undercoat, some have a lot of undercoat but shorter guard coat. It can vary but the standard calls for a 'proffus coat'.

The Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria will be at the VCA's Big Day Out for Dogs this Sunday, 12th December. Its to be held at KCC Park, Western Port Highway, Cranbourne VIC. The day starts at 10am and will go until 4pm, all dogs and their owners are welcome - there will be lots to see and do, and a Christmas market to buy your four legged family member something nice for Christmas. If anyone is interested in this breed, you can stop by the FLCV tent and meet some Lappies (and their owners!) in person. We will also be having our end of year Lappie get together, so the more the merrier (if you can't make the event that's ok - you can always contact the Club and we can put you in contact with member breeders and owners)
