  1. All of the Aamu babies have now left But I know they are off to adoring homes where they will be completely spoilt! And we are lucky enough to be keeping a special girl - introducing Miss Ruby, Taigakoira Aamutahti (Morning Star)
  2. I've confirmed everything with Kepala for this year (and thanks Flaves for making the corrections on the pinned thread!) so we are all right to go. This month I've also booked the puppy pen, which is the small run near the agility run with the low fence, as we are going to have a number of puppies. Just confirming that we are doing a picnic/cold lunch rather than BBQ this time around. Look forward to seeing you all there (finally - its been AGES since we were at Kepala!) and having a good time! 3. Sorry you won't be there for puppy cuddles LC - but we will see you at Caulfield Good luck to our fav goldie!! She'll be super Charlotte after its all over - no stopping her Kepala zoomies then!!! LOL
  4. Do you mind if I contribute a couple from early on....?
  5. Don't engage with these people. You can't win an argument with them as they don't respond to logic and commonsense. IMO its a bit like trying to teach a goldfish to ride a bicycle - pointless and frustrating.
  6. Both Halo and Thor were dropped off at the airport with no problems and are in flight at the moment. I'm sure they will love cuddles at the end!!
  7. Thats a bummer - but we will have to arrange a puppy play date sometime soon!
  8. oh, this is going to be a big puppy play date! LOL
  9. I show, but have not as yet worked at a show. I should say though, that I'm acting secretary, education officer and puppy/adult referral officer for our breed club. I'd be more than happy to work on a show (be it demonstration, open or breed ch show) but our club is quite young and that is something to work towards If and when it happens, assuming I am still around, I'm more than happy to volunteer
  10. LOL yes, we are doing a good job of it I think! Cold lunch is cool by me! ;) Will have to think of something
  11. Heyho Kepalaites I will contact Kepala this week to confirm dates for 2011, but I am assuming that we should be right to continue on as usual. Now, it is likely that that in Feb we shall have a number of puppies with us, so I am going to see if we can book the puppy run for the little ones, as things can get a bit hard and fast with the grown ups. On that, it would be good if we can all pay extra attention to our dogs and how they interact with others - this is one of the great things about Kepala and is why we all keep coming back - its nice to let your dogs off lead and play with others positively. So, if the play gets a little rambunctious its important that we have a bit of 'time out' and maybe change runs, or go to the pool, to break it up. Some dogs play harder than others (trust me, the chiropractor is doing well out of my lot - all that bloody lappie tail pulling!!) so we just need to keep an eye on what our dogs are doing, and we will all have a very good time. Will give you all updates on the arrangements, but as always if you are coming, post below who you are and who you are bringing, and we shall take it from there! I'll start  Lappiemum: Bear, Tasha, Sohvi and Ruby
  12. LOL Sorry but your puppy is smarter than your partner! All the advice here is very good. Crating is something that will ensure your puppy is confined at night, helps with toilet training routines, and keeps the neighbours happy. Don't forget - if left outside your puppy will be up when the sun is up! So before 6.30am sounds right - and ofcourse, there will be all sorts of interesting things to bark at during the night, like bats, cats, possums and stars LOL Get your OH to read this thread. There is a wealth of knowledge from very experienced dog breeders and owners here on DOL. You could also look at getting someone to visit you who knows about dog behaviour - they will give you advice on what you are doing right (and wrong!) - and that may help in training. Your puppy sounds like she is a very smart and clever girl. But she is still a baby, and has left the comfort of a litter with siblings and mum, and is now out in the scary back yard of a strange place by herself. Thats why she is upset - and why she wants to be with you.
  13. and this is the girl who is staying here with us - her name is Ruby, and she is our little pocket rocket!!! - and yes, she is going to have rather a lot of coat we think! LOL
  14. Oh, all these Lappie babies! I suppose I should add to this then!! This is Whiskedaway's girl Halo - she is 7 weeks old and the naughtiest puppy in the entire litter
  15. In memory of AusCh Herding Instinct's Beana. Today Beana went to the rainbow bridge. While Beana's show career was impressive with a number of group wins, she is remenber by all who met her as a gentle, happy, intelligent and beautiful lady. In short, Beana was a lovely girl who never failed to please and made an impression on all who met her. Heartfelt condolences to Wayne and Sue Sharp, their daughter Robyn and her son Ryan (Beana was his favourite girl). Also to her breeder Caitllin Marques in Sweden. While Beana was the first Swedish Lapphund in Australia, she was unique in many other ways too. She has left us far too early, but she will always be remembered.
  16. Probably a little smaller than what I want and not really my thing look wise I don't mind people-focused dogs, super clingy ones that want to be with you constantly every waking minute of the day tend to grate on my nerves though. No not entirely, I am just not sure if they are quite what I want. I know some with decent drive like Soaks but then all the other ones I've met have been quite mellow and low drive and I'm a bit worried about ending up with a coach-potato lappie I have three lappies (soon to be four) and all have different ranges in terms of drive. However, I can tell you that any of them will take whatever action is going. Even Bear - the most laid back boy I know - is happy to do his runs with me. What you have probably seen is the 'off switch' they have when they are not zooming/running etc. Which is a good thing, a dog thats on the go all the time would drive me nuts! Bear, btw was great in obedience - regularly topping his class because all he wanted to do was please you. With Tasha you needed to work harder, because if she found the activity boring (and obedience training at that club was at times - which is why we ended up doing more shows instead) she couldn't see the point of it - so you needed to work pretty hard too! LOL Sohvi is in between - she does have good drive and is very much reward orientated. Yet to do any formal obedience with her but I know she'll take to it well. We're yet to see what our new girl is like, but at the moment she's a little firecracker! LOL
  17. yes, it is! LOL Co-ownership arrangements vary depending on the contract. Essentially both parties have equal ownership, and once the contract is agreed, nothing can be changed or amended without the approval of both parties. You need to ensure that the contract is very clear and that everyone is 100% ok with the conditions. There should also be a clause to deal with what happens if things go south. Some states require that the contract is submitted along with the co-ownership form, others just the form (I think!).
  18. Actually that is not correct. A lot of breeders put pups who are show quality on the limited register as they are going to a pet home. What might be a great pet home is not necessarily one that would be a great show home. If the owner decides prior to sterilizing that they would like to show and the breeder is happy that the pup is still show quality then it can be changed over. There are a lot of good quality dogs in pet homes - sometimes its that there wasn't someone around at the time willing to show them for the breeder (you can't keep every dog), sometimes it might be some other reason - its the breeders choice. Many breeders will only breed for themselves, others breed selectively and are willing to work with other people who want to be involved in showing the breed, which is often where you see share agreements (either of these breeders is the type you want, but I should note co-ownership is a whole seperate thread! LOL). However, a breeder that seems to have litters on the go all the time, and only breeds to sell (ie you don't see them showing/trialling etc) is someone IMO who you should be vary wary of, even if they are willing to put a dog or bitch on mains and sell to you. In short, if the motivation for breeding is not to improve the breed (and be willing to have this demonstrated in a ring - or in whatever field of testing you are looking for) then you may run the risk of paying good money for an animal that is not of the quality that you are after. Because the basic theory (and yes, this is subjective!!) is that dogs in the ring should be of the best quality that the breed currently has to offer. That's why we have judges and ribbons LOL
  19. In my whelping box I used newspapers and puppy training pads to absorb the moisture/liquid during the whelping, and then after have the paper and pads covered by the vet bed. If you are using the vet bed don't use the rubber backed one as the green backed one lets the moisture through more effectively (and the urine eventually effects the rubber). Also, cut your vet bed to size, and have at least three lots so you can wash/change regularly. Good luck with your litter!
  20. Hi November baby people Hope your little bundles of fluff are going well! The Lappie babies are rocketing along, and having regular tail pulls/ear bites/puppy wrestles as you would expect. Love em all but glad that they will be going to their new homes soon too! Will post up some pics soon, but this is one that we did up for christmas!
  21. Hi CF- I think Evolving and the Vals are going, but I think we probably won't be there for this one either. Hoping we can make the Feb one, but if not we shall def be there for the March!! If you do cancel make sure you give Kepala a couple of days notice - just ring up and let them know. You might also want to have a quick look at the weather for Sunday (sorry haven't done that yet) as I know its ment to heat up later in the week.
