  1. THANK YOU!!!! Did you put them on straight away as they were born? I think I gave them 48hrs or so and then put them on. My lot were all so similar we were rather worried about mixing them up - and their markings change so quickly (even from the start) that identifying one as "female, white spot on chest" is not a reliable indicator after a week!
  2. Woofen - get the smallest (toy) ones with the velcro, they are good and will last you until they are about 5 weeks. You will probably need the next size up from about 6 or 7 weeks - and my litter were very good at removing them from each other in the last week or two, so you may even want to just invest in a clip style collar for the larger size.
  3. LOL After just dealing with 6 I'm glad it wasn't more! Good luck Woofen - and have a chat to Armahani, I know she did 9!
  4. Yay Nessa!! And big Congrats to SS!!! :D
  5. Most of our inquires came via our webpage - but it is important that when people google your breed your kennel name comes up quickly. There are ways to do this, it all relies on your website traffic and making your site worth visiting (and revisiting). I had a number of inquiries through DOL as well, but mostly in the forums rather than just through advertising. It may be different for my breed though
  6. there's going to be quite a few lappies there Evolving!
  7. we're looking forward to it. It will be my baby puppy's first show
  8. News is coming in now - whole city has been hit badly - building have collapsed and there are reports of serious injuries - airport has been closed and terminal evacuated - there is chaos in the city- hope our NZ friends are safe
  9. Some of us do both, you know We just spent 2 days on a breed club stall at the pet expo - and showed as well. And yes, I walk my dogs in the neighborhood - as well as take them around the show ring. Things don't happen in isolation We love our breed and do everything we can to promote it, and pedigree dog ownership. Just because we are 'showies' doesn't mean we don't have the interests of our breed's future at heart - far from it! We show because a) we enjoy it and b) I like having my dogs critically reviewed - that part is important for breeding (which is the focus of this thread) and vital for the future viability of any breed. If you don't have healthy animals of sound temperament that improve on each generation and meet the standard, you will not gain ground against the DD movement. So perhaps the question in this thread should be, how can breeders best promote their breed and ensure its future?
  10. We all love talking lappies. Once you get a lappie person started its hard to stop us!!LOL
  11. Some of our Lappies who were on "display" (which just means you get lots of cuddles!) Sohvi Louis Kiki (this was our Grandma - she's pushing the decade!LOL) Alera Ahti And ofcourse, its a hard slog! (Louis and his mum) So in the end, you really do need a kindy nap!LOL (Little Ruby - all of 12 weeks old!)
  12. I've posted these up in the spitz thread, but I thought people may like to see them here too We were on the Lappie stall, and it was a full on two days!! We (and the dogs) are now rather exhausted, but it was worth it to see so many people enjoy our breed. It was a little difficult doing the stall and 4 shows over the 2 days, as well as demonstrations etc - so please, if a breeder you spoke to didn't seem all that enthusiastic it was probably just exhaustion setting in!! (I know the Vall people had a 4am start both days!!) LOL Anyway, we're happy that so many people got to see and cuddle a lappie, and it was wonderful having a puppy or two there as well. I've been to a few of these now and they seem to get bigger every year Lappie stall Meeting the public (some who are wearing funny bunny ears) In the puppy play session
  13. the lappies will take up almost a quarter of the total group 5 entries then!! LOL
  14. I haven't yet had a stud agreement for my boy, but it would be a case by case basis, although I don't think I would insist on such an arrangement. As the owner of bitches, I wouldn't agree to the above restrictions & would look for another male - I'm not able to have a large number of dogs, and for me having others show my lines is the only way I can go in the short term. I have heard of other restrictions though - such as a say over who gets the puppies, and a cut of the sale of each puppy as well as a stud fee.
  15. Whats done is done - the OP has said she is desexing the bitch after this, and unless she is going to terminate now, the bitch is going to have puppies regardless. Or would you rather that she have no idea and the bitch have the puppies in a hole under the house? She has taken responsibility for it, and is on a way steep learning curve here with no experience or idea. There is a point where the welfare of the animal concerned comes in, or are we the kind of people that don't care about the treatment of a dog if it isn't a purebreed?
  16. Temp taking is the best way of telling if your bitch is likely to go in the next 24hrs - however, you have to time it so that you actually catch the temp change! LOL Take it twice a day, morning and evening. When it drops below 37 degrees and goes down towards the 36, you know you are on your way. It isn't the drop that instigates whelping btw - but when its on the rise again. Your bitch will probably start nesting, more intensely just before she whelps. She may eat before she whelps too, but is likely to throw it up. Make sure she has plenty of water though. I had long arguements with my girl about wanting to whelp in the back yard under the gardening bench, and then under my bed when there was a perfectly suitable whelping box! LOL Just move her in there when she looks like she is ready to go, and she will stay put if you are there too. Do you have all your supplies? You will need a few basics - alcohol swaps, scissors to cut the cords and string to tie the cords off with. You will need a mountain of newspapers and cut up old towels as you will need these to dry off puppies, deal with messes etc. Also get some puppy training pads as they are the best for soaking up the fluid that you will get with the whelping. A hot water bottle in a recieving box to keep the little ones safe and warm while Mum is going again is a good thing too. There is other stuff that is useful too, PM me if you need a list. Oh, and vet bed is the best thing in the world get at least 3 meters of the stuff, although you may need more with a larger breed. Put this in the box once she has whelped and that will assist in keeping the puppies dry. ETA - be very careful about temp control with your litter - don't overdo the cooling, as that can be fatal for puppies. To cool puppies it is better to lay a cool wet towel in the whelping box and they will lie on that to cool down. You can also use a fan, but don't blow it directly on them as it may chill them.
  17. That was me ;) and I happily gave Pip the money, but I didn't have everyone's names!! Sorry Pip - you can sack me from money collecting! ;)
  18. There is a thread on this at http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=158752 that you should read. In the meantime, however, progesterone is the way to go - get that done and then you will know if you need to worry. Also, if you are after an overview of these chemicals, I recommend that you get Karen Hedberg's book - its got a great overview of the different drugs that are used on bitches, and the possible side affects. IMO its also probably the most useful book a breeder can have.
  19. This is such a typical Lappie shot - its like "Hi!! I'm Tash!! Got treats?? Wanna pat me??" Love all the pics - esp of Sohvi! And I love Rubster - esp with her doing zoomies with dogs 10 times her size!!LOL Big thanks for posting these!!!
