  1. LOL the mud isn't the issue - its more the 'fresh' breezes..... Although I was at the very first Bulla show where they used a tractor to get some of the cars out of the parking lots...LOL But seriously, its much better now. Just make sure those gazebos are firmly tied down if there is a bit of wind about.

  4. LOL I know about the auctions but I'd be a bit nervous - my dad worked as a manager in the public service and I know how much those cars get threashed! LOL
  5. Looking for advice from the collective wisdom and experience of DOLers who own or have owned a Ford Territory (later models). We are looking for a new dog car - needs to get around town but also tow a dog trailer and do the interstate traveling too. Am buying new because I hate getting someone else's problems LOL ;) We are looking at the Ford territory, rear wheel drive. Given that we see a few Territories at dog shows ;) I thought I'd put a call out to see what people think and if there are any problems? A quick look on the internet came up with a problem in the pre 2009 models with the ball joints, but I don't know how common that was and if its now been fixed. What is everyone's experience? Thanks!
  6. Sorry guys - we'll be busy for a bit with Ruby in the ring, but hope that next month's meet will be a big one!
  7. Peter is closer to you then - he does his classes at Bulla on Wednesday nights (I think - its been a while since I went)
  8. I have less problems walking my lot along the street than in dog parks. I know where all the neighbourhood dogs are, and it doesn't worry me if there are dogs barking behind a fence - I use it as an opportunity for training my lot to ignore the distraction. Offlead and aggressive dogs rushing me and my dogs in the dog park - while their dopey owner looks on and thinks its funny - is another matter. I don't do parks for that very reason.
  9. sorry - but I think we are at Bulla
  10. Hey kepala-ites! We're showing this month (sorry!!) - am trying to convince the OH to take Tasha and Bear but he's a woss and only wants to go if I'm there Hope you have a fab time, and that we can get to the next one!
  11. Actually, I've been taught by both Peter and Ashley and they are both very good - but Peter will tell you that the dog is perfect, its just you stuffing up all the time!
  12. Love my Lappies but yet to meet one that doesn't think chickens weren't made especially for Lappies..... :D
  13. Don't know if you have popped into Dog Breeds 101, but there is a Basset hound entry there http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...hl=Basset+hound Just one post but you may be able to get in contact with the person who posted
  14. I support low cost and accessable desexing of pet cats and dogs. However, one point here. The vast majority of animals that end up in pounds are the products of a) commercial breeders (usually selling to petshops, but many now do their own direct to public marketing) and b) backyarders, who have either had a litter because they think it will land them a few extra $$ or because they were slack and their dog got to their bitch. If you are desexing at the pound (and I did think that the majority of pounds desexed animals for rehoming, but maybe I'm wrong there) its kind of like shutting the proverbial gate AFTER that horse (dog/cat) has bolted. You need to address the desexing issue when the puppy or kitten is initially bought home - and with those who are selling these animals.
  15. Second this. There can be a multitude of reasons for her timidness, but the best way of addressing it is to have someone who is qualified as a canine behaviourist to come out and do an assessment. They will look at the dog and her environment as well as you and your family - quite often we humans will reinforce negative behaviour in our dogs without even realising it :p
  16. don't have mine yet either - maybe they'll arrive today
  17. Hi tanteNdut- There could be a number of issues with your dog - without knowing her breed, history (where did she come from) and what kind of early socialisation she had, my advice is to seek some professional help from a qualified animal behaviourist. Where are you located?
  18. more likely they were bred by some backyarder or PF with the idea of flogging them to an assistance group - and to be honest, its not a combination that I would recommend in terms of assistance areas - could be quite high drive.
  19. This was posted on another show list - just sharing it here- SHOW TO BE HELD INDOORS. Due to the weather forecast for Saturday which says showers not clearing until lunch time - which could mean heavy rain knowing Melbourne's weather lately, it has been decided to hold the show INDOORS. The Committee are not thrilled with having to do this, but we have to consider all exhibitors and judges and how wet it will be underfoot. Judy Bacon Secretary
  20. Yep - I have a facebook for my kennel - its great - completely and utterly Finnish Lapphund focused! LOL Its really good for talking to overseas Lappie people- most of the news on my FB is in Finnish, Swedish or French LOL! Its also good for connecting with my puppy people, most of which also have a facebook, so I can get regular updates on our puppies (and I get to see pics!! )
  21. Yep - they had the same ingredients and were put out by Troy - sorry about my spelling (was late at night when I posted it).
  22. Give her some nutragel - just squeeze it out on your fingers and put it in her mouth. As well as having high nutrition it can get the appetite going again. My girl survived on a combination of steak & nutragel in her last week - and we had 6 healthy babies
  23. Hey Wags - I have not heard if he is back at work yet, or more on the severity of his illness. My understanding is that aside from Lavelle you can have them done by Dr Graeme Allan and Dr Robert Nicoll in SA, or by the AVA panel.
  24. saved up my leave - and I have a good employer was also able to share it with the OH in terms of who was being at home so we covered the whole 8+ weeks ok
