14 Year Old Pom In Hawkesbury
yellowgirl replied to HazyWal's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I've been in contact with Hawkesbury, she currently has adoption and rescue interest (not sure which group). Dear old bubs like this girl often have several names on them in the beginning but when it comes time to collect them people often realise that the reality will involve expensive vet work, ongoing medications, and in the case of rescue, a low chance of finding a home for an elderly, medically challenged senior dog. This little one has issues with her back legs and they will need to be looked into. If it doesn't pan out for her with the other options, between us, she will be safe :) -

No sadly YG is in SA and Hawkesbury Pound is in Sydney. She's not due for five days but hopefully someone in rescue can help. I've flown dogs over from NSW pounds before but I prefer to do it only when all their other options have run out. If this baby girl ends up with no other options she has a safe place with me I've let Hawkesbury Pound know. Jo xx -

He has IMHA but is responding very well so far, 8 weeks since diagnosis :) Oh honey, I'm so sorry to hear about beautiful Louis I had a look at your posts and looked up the illness, poor Louis and poor you. Please give him a gentle hug from me Thank you too Tinin Jac :) and also to everyone who contacted me and offered to assist with helping this little one I hope you don't mind, but while we're all thinking about Chinese Cresteds and wonderful homes, if you know of anyone in Adelaide who's looking for the most perfect and gorgeous crestie ever, my foster boy, 'Dreamy' is still looking for his perfect forever home :) http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/236121 -

I spoke to the shelter earlier and the good news is that Felix has been adopted :) I really hope the RSPCA had all of the information regarding his needs and that Felix is in the perfect home now. Thank you to everyone who was concerned about him, we can only hope that he's in the right place now -

This is what he looks like in all his glory. He's a beautiful looking boy. Especially not the Devonport branch of the RSPCA. Not a nice place. The pound is certainly not the best place for a crestie, especially if he's needy and stressy He also looks underweight, I can see his hip bones sticking out in the RSPCA picture. I'm not supposed to be taking in new dogs but if he needs me he can come here. I'd rather that than him be in the pound. He's not even two years old poor baby. What's wrong with Louis, CC?? -
Dry Dog Food Recommendation Needed
yellowgirl replied to White Shepherd mom's topic in General Dog Discussion
My 12 year old crestie girl was diagnosed with renal failure about 2 years ago. I did a lot of research into what she needed. What has worked wonderfully for her is the Nutro Natural Choice Lite dry food http://nutro.com.au/dry-dog-food-light.aspx and the Tucker Time roll http://www.tuckertime.com.au/ingredients.asp Unfortunately a raw diet was too rich for her but she's been doing beautifully on these two products for over two years now. All the best with Casper :) I forgot to add that she has a calcium supplement in the morning as well! The calcium level needs to be higher than the phosphorus. Also low fat, low protein, low salt and no preservatives. The Nutro Lite and Tucker Time combo also works well for the bubs I've had come in with pancreatitis, IBD and other health issues. Raw food has been too rich for these guys as well and the cooked roll seems much more gentle for them. -

Isn't Jordie just the most gorgeous thing you've ever seen CC? I absolutely adore him Thank you for sharing your story redwallylegs, I'm so sorry that you lost your dog, but I'm also glad that he had you to care for him. We're in SA and we only adopt our dogs locally, mainly because I do the interviews and home checks myself and I like to be close by if the adopters or dogs should need anything. There's also the risk of things not working out for whatever reason and in those cases the dog comes back here and I'd hate it if there were any problems with a dog being returned. We've had quite a few offers of adoption for Chester already but we need to monitor him for a while, get him much healthier and then he still needs all his usual vetwork done (desexing, microchip, etc). As with all our dogs, when and if he's adoptable we'll take applications once we know what sort of home would suit him best xx It was said quite tongue in cheek actually, he is lucky to have you and very lucky to be in rescue with you. I am sure you will find a perfect forever home for him. These teeny weenies get under your skin so fast, he will come along in leaps and bounds now. Hugs to you. Oh, I see..lol. Ah, well it doesn't hurt to let people know that we won't be flying him across the country any time soon :) I think you're right about that one Marion, I don't think he would have survived this long if he wasn't -

Thanks guys :) Chester hasn't had a seizure since he's been on the meds He's breathing much easier and is much more settled. He's still on the antibiotics for his nasal infection but now that he's on the meds for his heart and lungs we should start seeing some improvements there soon too. He had a couple of little snot bubbles this morning so it looks like his nose might be starting to clear and drain :) Thank you for sharing your story redwallylegs, I'm so sorry that you lost your dog, but I'm also glad that he had you to care for him. YG I think this is a problem. The emergency vet who saw Mac didn't just rely on the notes from my vet but was very thorough clinically. And there were multiple calls between my vet that night and the next day and the vets and surgeon at the emergency hospital - as I would expect. Luckily your regular vet worked it out. I agree, I would have had x-rays done then and there if the vet had heard his lungs. But I have to put that aside and concentrate on the fact that he's now been diagnosed properly, and I thank god for that, if I think about what wasn't done at the emergency vet I will drive myself crazy. At least he's okay now and I'm so glad I took him in to our vet today and he's getting the treatment he needs. I just thank god that he's okay. -

Me too! Would have taken a lot of the guesswork out. But I'm very happy there's a diagnosis. :) Yep, me too. LOL. Hmm, I am a bit surprised too. At least it has happened now and Chester can look forward to a much much much better life. Raffi, start misbehaving Me too! Would have taken a lot of the guesswork out. But I'm very happy there's a diagnosis. :) same here glad to hear of the cause for his discomfort has been diagnosed and can start to get better Thanks guys :) The emergency vet didn't examine him at all. She went by the notes from the last visit and my videos. She never touched him. My vet didn't get a report of the visit either. -

We're back from the vet. The vet heard some crackling in Chester's lungs and decided that an x-ray would be our best option to start with. Hoo boy, am I glad we did that! We have the answers Chester has an extremely enlarged heart and has fluid on his lungs, and his huge heart has been pushing his trachea up. Now, I've had bubs with pulmonary edema before but never without the clinical symptoms, so our Chester sure is a special one The nasal infection is a separate issue and we should start seeing some better results now that he's on meds for his heart and lungs. The vet gave him a diuretic injection to get things going and he'll be having Vetmedin and Flusopex drops twice a day. Omg, I can't tell you how relieved I am to have a diagnosis!! I'm sad that the poor little bloke has had to deal with this on his own for so long, but we're going to make sure he has everything he needs to get better and it's onward and upward from here. With the right meds and management, Chester has every chance of a full and happy life :D Thank you everyone so much for your support and advice through this very difficult time I appreciate it so much Jo xxx The x-rays... Chester goes for a potter around the yard and tells his mate, Raffi, all about the exciting adventures he had today :) -

Chester is relatively comfortable at the moment but he's still having a bit of trouble breathing. He doesn't seem quite as bad as last night so fingers crossed that he'll have a better night tonight. I think tdierikx's idea of making a kind of pillow to keep his head up has made a great difference! I will update tomorrow. Thank you all for your suggestions, thoughts and prayers for our little boy, it's very much appreciated Jo xx -

Aww, that's sweet of you Marg. I remember a couple of years ago when I still had my little shop, I needed someone in a hurry to watch the shop for me as I had an appointment and my help had fallen through, I only knew you through DOL but you came and watched the shop for me. You saved the day and I've never forgotten it :) I hope to organise a fundraiser of some sort in the next week or two so keep an eye on our fb page. xx -
