  1. OP is after a shop that doesn't sell animals though
  2. Awwww, that's so lovely. Very sweet of Oscar to share with his buddy. That would have been so cute to see ... but of course, no camera handy
  3. Oh, if you're looking for raw food and maybe even a whole shop dedicated to preservative-free pet food .... well ... check my siggy Here's the thread on the Adelaide DOL meets - first Sunday of the month as well as the odd bbq inbetween http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=173384 Lovely bunch of people too :D
  4. Not what we wanted to hear, but thank you so much Toohey for letting us know. This is hard to write .... does Jed know yet about ... what happened? Stay strong Jed, still sending you prayers and vibes for healing and strength.
  5. Thank you Miz J for the bags of fleece material! :D xxx
  6. Aawwww, your pooches are lovely Dodger . Hopefully you'll all be able to make it to a meet soon
  7. Thanks so much to those who have taken the time to give updates . It really does seem like we're in a waiting room, hoping the doctor will pop in and give us some news. I just love this DOL waiting room though, all the candles, flowers, lovely people, comfy couches - with snuggly throw rugs, and the dogs snoozing together or cuddled on available laps. And that beautiful smell of coffee and warm muffins. So lovely My thoughts and prayers are with you Jed. Stay strong, ChiChi needs you ;)
  8. Thanks Colliepaws, I hope we'll be able to catch up soon. Poor Luka! . Hope he'll be okay, please give him a big kiss on the nose for me (oh, and one for Molly too) Hi Harley, yes you just missed out by one day! Glad to hear that the treats went down well. Was lovely to meet you and Olivia, thank you for coming in MM, it was so lovely to see Banshee relaxed and comfortable enough to just be a regular dog . She almost, very nearly, even played with a toy with Shannon! Thank you so much for taking the time to help Banshee . I know she had a great time, she had no fear at all with you or Shannon. Have messaged you re the photo Thanks Mellissa . She's such an angel and has so much love inside her just waiting to come out.
  9. Hi Whippetsmum, I can still use old shirts to make dog coats/shirts, it's just a bit harder to try to turn a whole human shirt into a dog shirt . I just use the material from the front and back for the dog shirt pattern and start from scratch . Thanks C*P, whatever you can spare will be very much appreciated ;) . The doggies won't mind couture, as long as it's warm couture Hey Colliepaws, hopefully will see you (and a bag of clothes ;) ) in the next week or so That was a great drive Snowysal, Well done! ;) I'm more than happy to accept ready-made coats too. I've been giving out leaflets to my customers and I've got a few people who've said they will bring in some clothes/material during the week
  10. Quick update on my foster girl (still calling her a foster and pretending that she's not staying :p ) Original story here if you missed it ... http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=194927 Kelpiehoundmum and her daughter, Shannon, came in to the shop to see Banshee today . Banshee had already had a few very successful meet & greets with customers earlier and was in great confident form. I showed the girls Banshee's trick where I crouch down and she jumps on my back, Shannon wanted to try it and Banshee jumped right up there! . She happily took any treats and pats that were on offer too It was a lovely visit for Banshee - confidence plus! Banshee was great with the next customer who came in, but then had a setback with the next one and wouldn't go near her. Then with the next one she was fine. Two men also came in together, and she wanted treats and pats from one but not from the other. She wouldn't go near him. I can tell straight away if she's confident with someone, what I can't work out at the moment is exactly what triggers her fear responses. By the way, Banshee is behind a barrier (you can see it in the pic) and only comes out to interact with customers if they want to meet her and give her a treat .
  11. I'm very proud of you for not decking anyone . Next time the subject of breeding comes up perhaps you could mention the amount of unwanted dogs currently sitting in shelters and rescues, and that perhaps they might not want to add to a situation that is already at it's limit. Stoopid people drive me crazy
  12. Happy birthday Julie!! Thank you for all the wonderful, tireless work you do for others. Hope you have a lovely day . With love from Jo, Madeline, Sarge, Pepper and Banshee ETA: Don't worry, it's still a secret. We won't tell anyone outside of DOL
  13. CP, thank you for trying to help this girl. Looks like the story's fairly clear (and all too common unfortunately ). I'm assuming the former owner didn't have the dog microchipped either. Do what you can, I wish you every success. Hope this lovely old girl will be safe in a forever home soon. ps. Many of my dog-related adventures have started out with 'I know it's not really my business, but...'
  14. Oh, I can relate to the failed fostering! Loraine, why dont you take a photo of his reflection in the mirror? I want to see that little cutie-pie face . What's Willy's story? I also had a black mini poodle called Chester. He died 2 days after I brought my Crestie, Madeline, home in Feb last year . I'm a total sucker for black minipoos now, if I were to foster one, we all know what would happen
  15. Dog out I found it a bit of a pain to use people shirts for dogs as people arms go outwards and dog arms go downwards and there's always that excess material hanging down . I tried to make shirts from people shirts for my dogs once but with the amount of alterations, it was easier to just make them from a dog shirt pattern I found some old trakky daks last night so I'll have a practise with them shortly
  16. Lovely to see the pictures. The 4 Cavs look like they are missing their mum. Candle re-lit. Be strong Jed
  17. Probably a bit like seeing Octomum with just one kid :D
  18. I can sew two bits of material together but not necessarily in a straight line . I don't think the dogs will mind as long as they're a bit warmer on these chilly nights If others would like to help make shirts, it might be an idea to post an address here (either a PO box, work address, or maybe a local store that would accept postal packages or drop-offs for you) to where DOLers can locally post or drop off their clothing material. I can then add the addresses to the first post of the thread so people can see them easily.
  19. I recently sent some pre-loved dog shirts to K9Angel to give to the Blacktown pound dogs and I want to send more, and also to other rescues/shelters if I can. I have the Simplicity 3939 pattern to make dog shirts and have run a few up for my dogs ... with varying degrees of success . If DOLers would like to send me any human clothing that you no longer wear or need - fleecy track suits, pyjamas, dressing gowns, shirts, jumpers (not knitted ones), or anything else that could be turned into a dog shirt/coat, please bring them in or post to my shop: Fido's Funhouse 305A Payneham Road Royston Park SA 5070 I'll bring my sewing machine to the shop and try to run a few up during the quiet times. The shirts won't be anything fantastic, but they'll help keep a shelter pooch a little bit warmer this winter It would be great if other members could make some as well, and also if people involved in rescues and shelters could post the addresses of places who need them so they can be posted directly to that shelter or rescue person.
  20. Just checked Troy's updates in General. Still no change . Be strong Jed. So many are praying for you and thinking of you every day
  21. You guys are so lovely MM, I think I is hooked! . But seriously, I think that's enough Cresties in one household now (yes, I know I said that when I got Pepper ), but I mean it now ! ;) . It's funny though, how love doesn't diminish for the others when another one is added, it just keeps growing! I can't imagine not having four gorgeous faces to kiss now :D CAD, I really don't know what the owner was thinking when she got Banshee . When she showed me all the pictures of Banshee she had on her phone I thought it was interesting that she hadn't taken any after Banshee was about 6 months old. Maybe that's when the novely wore off? Miz J, thanks so much for the offer to come into the shop, but from this week Banshee is happily staying at home with the crew. Actually, just had a thought, I'll bring her into the shop with me this Saturday, so if anyone wants to help with her rehab (pretty much just treats and pats) feel free to come along. One of my customers is a behaviouist/trainer ( ) and she says Banshee isn't a natural biter, she doesn't want to bite, it's a conditioned fear response she's developed to protect herself. We've done a fair bit of work with her already and she will only bite if she is afraid, nervous or cornered, so she'll be absolutely fine with people who are calm with her Percyk, I so agree with you about Banshee having winter protection now. She sometimes gets cold even with her shirt on, I can't even imagine her being left outside shirtless on cold nights like we've been having recently! . Poor little bub Beautiful story Christina. I remember when my Madeline's real self came out one day. I did the same thing, just burst into tears, I was so happy to see her there after she'd protected herself for so long Thank you to everyone else who's posted, I really appreciate your support and kind words . Quick update on the 'breeder' side of things - The owner told me a few things about where she got Banshee from and I put a few things together and made a few calls to 'people in the know', and managed to track down the person who bred Banshee!! She was born early January 2009, so she's about 16 months old. The breeder says her father is a papered powderpuff crested and her mother is a non-papered hairless crested. The 'breeder' only breeds 'pet' Cresteds without papers so there's no real history or any testing. She had said that she would email me the sire's details so I could look him up on the CC Registry but that didn't happen. I rang her again early last week to see if she could forward them, but still haven't received anything. Not that Banshee's imaginary pedigree matters that much to me, but I would have liked to look up her parantage and see if she's maybe related to any of my dogs. Oh well, I love her regardless of who her daddy is
  22. Thank you everyone . Just a quick update on my girl . She's now fully desexed, microchipped, wormed, heartwormed and vaccinated . The vet thinks Banshee may have some cruciate damage to her back left leg, but nothing too bad and to just wait and see for the moment. She says to just keep her on the glucosamine/condroitin powder and see how she goes. I also have her on the Vet's All Natural Joint Formula. She doesn't seem to be in any pain, just holds it up a lot and often trots around on three legs. Apparently quite a few other people knew before I did, but it seems evident now that Banshee isn't going anywhere ... she's part of our little crew now and she's staying with me She's doing really well so far ;) . She still needs quite a lot of work to reduce her fear responses, I've been carefully letting her meet my family, friends, neighbours and shop customers and she will accept treats and pats if they are very slow and quiet with her. She's had some bad reactions to a few people, backing into the corner and screaming, peeing on one occasion, but luckily she hasn't bitten anyone. I want to say a big thanks to Kelpiehoundmum who took the time to sit on the shop floor and give pats and treats to Banshee . Banshee responded like she didn't have a care in the world, just wanted to make friends ;) . Thanks also to Westiemum and a couple of others who's names (so sorry!) escape me at the moment - but I know who you are, and I thank you for taking the time to interact positively with this little girl . It's all helping Here's a few piccies of the 'Crestie Crew' at home ... xxx
  23. You're still in my thoughts and prayers Jed . Lovely news about the kitty
  24. I start tearing up just thinking about it. I hope in some way the outpouring of empathy and support that DOLers have shown for Jed will somehow find it's way to her and gently rest around her shoulders like a soft comforting blanket. Prayers and blessings for the people who will have to break the news to her too, that's going to be one hard and heartbreaking job Will be burning more candles over the weekend
