Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
yellowgirl replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Welcome back Jed!! I was so happy to see your first post, but as I read on I realised that your heart will be bearing more pain than those of your heroic burns... the heartbreak of losing your precious dogs . My heart goes out to you Jed. Tonight I will be lighting candles for Beth, Roxy, Paris, Magnus, Meg, the 3 Baby Boxers, and the Baby Cav. Rest in peace darling angels. You were so loved xxx -
Full marks for everyone! Yep it was an infected anal gland (which very helpfully decided to pop the minute I got to the vet's and picked Pepper up to get her out of the car ...... eeeeewwwwww!!!) For all those who like my medical pics, here is the after shot .... Pepper's now on pain relief and antibiotics. She was such a brave girl! Hardly said boo when the vet was ... erm... draining it. By the time we got home I had a lovely multicoloured shirt of blood and pus ... double eeeewwww!! Aaaaaand.... no need to wait for the next exciting episode of 'How Jo financed the vet's next holiday'! Here it is! .... http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=198194

I think Madeline might be feeling a bit left out with all the medical dramas the other dogs have been having the past few weeks, so last night when I got home she presented me with this! Just so you're not completely confused, Maddie doesn't have an eye on that side. Short history... She's now 4 years old. When I got her about a year and a half ago she was covered in staph infections which we finally got under control, but it seems her skin has never quite recovered. She still gets breakouts, but in general it's managable. Last month she smelled a bit 'yeasty' and had some funny looking bumps, so the vet put her back on antibiotics. She's been on a four week course and next week will have finished the course. She has no redness on any other part of her body, just the left side of her face, and going down her neck a little way. It wasn't there yesterday morning. We've had no change in food, shampoos, clothing, washing powder, or anything else I can think of. It's still the same this morning. Any thoughts?

Stormie, you're gross!!

Thanks guys. I had thought it might be an impacted anal gland too but she hasn't been scooting or bothering it at all . Maybe it does hurt but she's just being a brave little old girl. We're seeing the vet at 6.30 tonight.
-
I've had this trouble too. I've rung several clinics... one of the vets had never heard of it (!!), most others said they didn't do it, and of the few that did, the prices were ridiculous. Please let me know if you do manage to find one .

This week's mystery lump is courtesy of Pepper It's come up very quickly and I have an appointment with the vet tonight... just thought I'd see what you guys think it might be. Pepper is a female Chinese Crested and is 9 years old. Generally very healthy, no arthritis or other age problems. Here are pics of the lump ... it doesn't seem to bother her, she's not licking at it or anything, but she doesn't want me to touch it.

Thank you Goldchow! It's so nice to hear these little updates I hope Jed doesn't feel any pressure to come on to DOL before she's ready. It would be a little overwhelming to know that so many are people waiting for you. Please tell Jed to take her time, and get well and strong first . We're happy to wait and amuse ourselves while she's on the mend. Her recovery is the most important thing -

DBT, I'm happy to take any unwanted items and pass them onto rescues. Or you can bring them with you to the next meet and pass them straight onto Miss Squish, MizJ or Ker if they're there Thank You for bringing in the fleece Harley!! (brand new too!) . I was hoping I'd get some larger pieces for the bigger dogs... your huge piece of fleece will be perfect! -

Excellent, thank you DBT! I remembered you said you'd bring it to the meet, glad someone was able to take it to pass on. Sorry I didn't make it, hopefully I'll catch up with you at the next meet Looking forward to seeing that bag of material, Thank You!! -

Come on Adelaidians! I need more material! :D . Anything fleecy or stretchy would be great. Also, big ask here... if anyone can provide postage satchels I would be eternally grateful. Most of the coats are going interstate ( http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...p;#entry4593436 ) and I only have one 3kg satchel here. I can give x2 1kg Fido's Formulas in return for each 3kg satchel Thank you to those who have already dropped off material Also want to say a big Thank You to Bonbongirl and Ozdogs for their contributions -

I fear the forum may explode with happiness the day you come back on to DOL . I don't always remember to light my virtual candle, but I bought a beautiful yellow candle just for you Jed, and I light it every night when I get home ;) . xxx -

You go girl!! . I've ended up making up my own pattern based on my dogs' shirts, haven't quite perfected it yet though (taught myself two new rude words in the process ) but will continue to blunder through. The 'rejects' will still fit little dogs (or oddly shaped dogs ), I've just got to work out how to adjust the sleeves, etc for the bigger sizes.... getting there though Thanks for posting in the rescue section, hopefully more shelters, carers, fosterers, etc will respond. With all this practice, we should have the patterns down pat for next winter :D .... so glad I'm not the only one who's not an expert sewer here Good on you for taking in a rescue Voloclydes . Speaking for myself, I don't have enough expertise to make a properly measured coat for a specific dog, it's kind of pot luck here at the moment . I think there are some DOLers who do make coats though. They are expensive aren't they? -
Loved the photos! :D Sorry I missed it, I don't have internet access at home and wasn't sure if it was still on as the weather was a bit dismal. By the time I got done with the overdue housework I had a bit of trouble getting off the couch anyway Looks like you guys had a great time. The dogs look like they had fun . Again, love the photos JS Fingers crossed that next month the weather will be good

Bit of a progress report . Much of my 'sewing time' has been spent unpicking what I've just done , so it's been slow going. Also, I have a wrist injury, so that's not helping much ... but I have managed to get a few coats done. I started with the 'C' pattern (Simplicity 3939) but the sleeves were a bit hard on my wrist, so I'm now trying the 'D' pattern, which is okay apart from getting the right tension on the belly band Will keep plugging away though The work station at the back of the shop.... Sarge modelling the 'D' pattern (doing his best Zoolander pose).... What we have so far .... Once I find a pattern that I can get the hang of easily and can just zip through , we should get on a bit of a roll. Practise makes perfect eh? :D How are our other sewers progressing? . What patterns are you using? Any tips or hints? -
Hmmm, I don't know guys... if it's going to be raining, is it worth postponing the meet till next week? Won't be much fun if we're having to cope with the cold AND the rain
-
Extraordinary indeed .... Welcome to my life! . Will see how we go tonight, we've got the vet visit with the first vet so she can check her tummy, and then a visit on Mon night with the second vet to check out her leg . Not really looking forward to either as Banshee screams and thrashes with both vets (probably won't be the highlight of the vets' day either )
-
Thanks CrazyCresties . Luckily, whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be bothering her, and the bump is starting to recede now.

You're still in my thoughts and prayers Jed -
Banshee is still her usual crazy, gorgeous, kissable self I was finally able to contact the vet who did the spey, and she said the uterus was definitely removed along with the ovaries. We have an appointment tomorrow so the original vet can have a look at her. She seemed a bit sceptical about it being a phantom pregnancy. I think it may be correct though ...the bump is reducing now, mainly her mammery glands that are still a bit swollen. We have to see the second vet again next week about Banshee's leg, the vet gave her anti-inflammatories for it last week, and they do seem to be helping. Thanks t-time, the vet checked for milk too . Thanks for your input Stormie, very much appreciated Thank you Colliepaws ;)

If it's not too much trouble, it would be great if you could see if there's any fleecy or stretchy stuff in there . I'm still learning as I go with the sewing and I think knitted material would be a bit of a challenge for me at the moment. You're brave bringing 3 dogs! . You realise there will be people there with cameras don't you? I'm just bringing one of mine to this one, at least I might actually get to chat with people this time

Sunday's weather is looking pretty good ... 18, fine, partly cloudy . If anyone has any old clothing/material (anything stretchy or fleecy - tracksuits, jumpers, shirts, dressing gowns, pjs, etc) please bring it along as I'm making dog coats for shelters http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...p;#entry4569777 . I'll also bring along a couple of proto types so I can try them on a few different sized dogs . Let me know if any of you guys have cats at home... I still have quite a few (expired) Nutro cat dry food samples left and can bring them along. Feel free also to let me know if you'd like me to bring any orders from the shop with me

Kayo was such a good girl! She's really had a rough few weeks poor thing. Thanks for posting the video, very interesting. Did the lump feel soft and pliable before it was drained, or was it hard? You said Kayo had no signs of infection ... so no temperature, eating okay, etc? My Banshee has a tummy bump (http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=196843), so I'm interested in other people's lump/bump experiences. . We're going to the vet again Friday. Hope Kayo recovers okay. She really needs to try not to get into any more trouble for a while. Give her a kiss for me and tell her to rest and get better soon -
Weather is looking better ;) . I think 1pm would be a good time to start for this one. DBT, there's nothing to be nervous about, they're a friendly bunch, no pressure. On my first meet, I just pretended I was taking my dog to that park anyway, and there just happened to be a few other people with dogs there ... who happened to be very nice... and crazy dog lovers to boot . (by the way, your avitar cracks me up every time I see it ) Mrs RB, once you're there, it's actually a pretty big space for the dogs to run around in
