  1. Glad Benson is doing better today ;) One of my dogs also has pancreatitis. She does really well on the Tucker Time roll and Nutro lite dry food. I've recently been adding kangaroo meat, pre-soaked oatmeal and chopped parsley. Every now and then she'll have a vomit, usually at night, and I think we'll be at the vets the next day, but by the next morning she's bright and sparky and digging into her breakfast . Hugs to dear old Benson
  2. Great footage! I had to watch it again just because Kibah is just so gorgeous! Sarge, my older boy does it in his enormous bed to get it shmooshed up to snuggly perfection. Banshee, the youngest girl does it on the floor with a cushion, I think just to be silly, she will look up at me when she does it to see if I'm laughing. She'll keep doing it until I laugh, then jumps up on me for kisses :D Just read that back ... Sarge does it in his enormous bed and Banshee does it on the floor with a cushion (giggling stupidly to myself... sorry, long day, I'm very overtired )
  3. Yes, already booked in with JS's table ! Hope lots more people can make it I've put a couple of flyers up in the shop
  4. Nutro senior is being deleted but the company will soon be bringing out a new lite/senior combo. Eagle Pack is also a good brand.
  5. Sometimes these things happen all at once don't they? Hope all went well for Indi's surgery and her eyes feel better real soon.
  6. Aww, poor Henry. Hope you get to the bottom of his itchies soon Miz J. It's awful to see them itching and scratching and not knowing how to relieve their discomfort. Sounds like he had a bit of a reaction to the tattoo ink as well. Hopefully his new camo collar will help him feel a bit better (have sent you a pm) Thank you Esky, that's very sweet. Most people haven't been lucky enough to see Banshee's full true, loving nature. She trusts me so much, and I just look into that little face of hers and I know the universe has chosen me to look out for her
  7. lol you're getting to know Banshee pretty well KHM. With her track record, that sounds about right Funny one about the gremlin ... she gets called that a lot
  8. Thanks Spitzbabe. From what I've read, this infection can either clear up pretty well with antibiotics or can go the other way and require surgery . Some dogs have died from the infection . Banshee's a pretty tough little thing though, so I think she'll be okay after a course of antibiotics ( currently crossing everything I have to cross )
  9. I think Banshee is the queen of curly ones . Me too! Pity the vet doesn't have a reward system for visits ... I'd probably be eligible for a new tv or something by now
  10. Thank you for sharing your story MaxLhasa. What a terrible scare that would have been for you! Sorry to hear that your boy lost his old friend last year . You must be doing something right to get them to such a wonderful old age though Thanks again for the info, as an owner of a couple of oldies I really appreciate it. Hugs to your oldies too Weibritty and Ish
  11. Cheers Harley and Rommi n Lewis Thank you Miz J for taking the time with her yesterday. Your hubby did a super job too, even though Banshee was a bit nervy. Well, apparently what Banshee has is 'stump pyometra'. I haven't had a chance to look it up yet but it's to do with the lower part of the ovarian tubes that's left after they're cut and removed during desexing. The vet drew a picture for me . The antibiotics should clear it up ;) . The vet doesn't know why it's happened but thinks that maybe the hormone injection a previous vet gave to Banshee during her season may have contributed to the infection. There's no guarantee that it won't re-occur But she's feeling okay, still a little piggy and as crazy as ever so it's not having too much of a negative effect on her :D . We've had a very stern discussion and I've reminded Banshee that every time she goes to the vet she will be re-introduced to the rectal thermometer, so Banshee has promised that she's pretty much got everything out of her system now and won't be needing any more vet visits for quite some time ;)
  12. Cheers Evolving, yes she really has had a bit of a tough time recently. This discharge doesn't seem to be an infection, it's almost like she's in pre-oestrus. Impossible, I know... but then we are talking about Banshee, who had a phantom pregnancy after being desexed Will see what the vet says in half an hour ...
  13. I can't believe my failed foster girl Banshee has to go to the vet AGAIN!! So far we've had intial checkups, desexing, vacc, microchip (in prep for re-homing), phantom pregnancy, weak patellas, full blood panel, chronic pancreatitis, suspected crutiate injury, pain killers for hunching, and last week, neck, spine and leg x-rays. She's also had behaviourist/training help to address her screaming and fear biting. All this since May! Saturday night I noticed some mucous on her vulva and by Sunday it was bothering her. This morning she passed a lot of mucous, there doesn't seem to be any redness or irritation, mostly mucous (sorry to say mucous so much ). So I have her in the shop with me again today and we'll be off to the vets after work . I might as well just take the whole cash register with me tonight and give it to the vet. Even for my crazy universe, this is getting a bit ridiculous :D Thanks for letting me have a little vent
  14. Don't have any suggestions, but sending hugs and healing vibes to your friend. I hope her dear old girl will be okay.
  15. Done. Thanks Nekhbet. Fingers crossed that our voice will be heard.
  16. Hope your girl is feeling better now dancinbcs. Yes, bloodwork was done last month and that's where they picked up the pancreatitis. Haematology was all fine. I'm still keeping hour by hour notes on her. I have her in the shop with me today so I can keep an eye on her.
  17. Banshee had her xrays yesterday. The result is a perfect skeleton from neck & spine to her back legs. No sign of arthritis, bone damage or anything else. I'm happy to have these results but the vet and I are now confused as to what is causing her hunching. I think we were both expecting something to come up on the xray. I've been over every single millimetre of Banshee's back and body, poking, pinching, prodding to see if she has any reaction, but she's fine wherever I touch her. I can't see her going to a chiro or physio as she's not going to let anyone else run their hands around her body without a fight. At this stage, the vet and I have agreed to 'experiment' with previcox and tramal and keep meticulous notes on when she is hunching and her reactions to the medications. She'd been having previcox for the last week with her evening meal and this seemed to help reduce her hunching. I wasn't going to give her a previcox last night but by 9pm she was hunching. About an hour after the tablet the hunching had reduced. By this morning she wasn't hunching. It's possible that her pancreatitis is causing her pain, but I just don't know. I might just have to work out which pain killers or anti inflammatories work best for her and treat the symptoms she has. I hate not knowing the cause though.
  18. Wow It's so great when something works to relieve pain for our dogs. I'm glad you've found the right treatment for your girl. It's wonderful when you see the change in them I'll have to wait for the x-ray results on Monday before deciding what the next move is. I'm hoping for the best, but with Banshee's track record, kind of expecting the worst.
  19. Thanks for taking the time to google it poodlefan. Info says that it more frequently effects young to middle aged dogs. I don't like what else I read ... I hope it's not IVDD :D
  20. Wow! Soooooo lucky! Many of us can empathise with what seems like an interminable waiting time for those test results. I hope you're able to keep the weight on Benson. A snuggly coat might help him feel better too. It's so hard to find safe foods to use for weight gain when you have a dog with pancreatitis (I can relate). Kisses to dear old Benson xxx
  21. Banshee's background story ... http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...194927&st=0 In the short time Banshee has been with me she's had a phantom pregnancy and also been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. Temperament-wise, she is much more relaxed with people now and her fear-biting is pretty much just reserved for the vet these days :D . She is the most loving, gorgeous, kissable little thing and has fitted in with my current 'Crestie Crew' beautifully ;) . There was something wrong with her back left leg from the beginning. A little while ago the vet put her on Previcox to see if it made a difference to her favouring it. The idea was that if there was improvement then it wasn't a cruciate injury but more likely arthritis related. Her leg did improve with the Previcox, so it's not a cruciate injury. I've had her on glucosamine/chondroitin powder since I first got her and after she finished the course of Previcox, her leg has continued to improve. What hasn't improved is her hunching stance and walking on tippy toes. I didn't pay enough attention to it during the course of pain relief as our first vet had said she was tense because of her nervous nature and it would improve on its own. After Banshee was diagnosed with pancreatitis our second vet thought the hunching might have been related to internal pain and should improve, but it hasn't. For the last week Banshee's been on Previcox again to see if pain relief would help with the hunching... and it has. The hunching has reduced and she is walking on the whole of her pads and not on tippy toes. I spoke to the vet this morning and she thinks it's most likely skeletal rather than internal, maybe ostoearthritis, and has booked Banshee in for xrays on Monday. She'll have 3 lots done to cover her neck, spine and back legs. Banshee is only 18 months old. She's had quite a lot of emotional, behavoural and medical issues cope with in her short life so far. She seems so young to have osteoarthritis. The fact that the Previcox has made a difference means that the hunching and tippy toe walking must be due to some kind of pain or discomfort she's been in . Can it really be osteoarthritis in such a young dog? Because of the change in the last week, I'm thinking she may need to stay on pain medication. Anyone have any thoughts, or been through a similar thing with a young dog?
  22. Sending hugs and healing vibes to sweet Benson. Hugs to you too. Please let us know what the specialist says.
  23. Jed, I've had to stock up on pretty candles but I still light one for you and the furkids you lost every single night. I'm sure your horrific experience has encouraged many DOLers to appreciate what's right in front of them, and love and hug their friends, family and beloved pooches all the more. Still sending much love, healing vibes and Crestie kisses xxx
  24. Sorry to hear about your girl . My old girl Pepper has just been diagnosed with kidney disease as well. Regular, shop bought treats are definitely out! It's not just salt and protein you need to look out for, you must also make sure that the phosphorus level in the food is below 0.6%. I'm still checking into treats, but Pepper's main meal is now the Tucker Time roll as it has 14% protein, 6% fat, 0.4% phosphorus and 0.2% salt. I'm not a fan of the Hill's Science Diet range, but the only dry food that meets her needs is the Prescription k/d. Is that what your vet has given you for your girl? Sheridan's idea of making home made treats is a good one. I'll be looking into that shortly and see if I can find the protein and phosphorus levels of different meats. Hope you find the right balance for your girl
